Small things that make you happy

I've just bought a new dressing gown- it's a waffle one from the White Company and it's LOVELY. Just putting it on makes me feel like I'm a White Co catalogue dweller, surrounded by crisp linen and ordered spotlessness. Waht small things have made you happy recently?

Lots of things my kids do.

When MR J and I belly laugh over something.

Cheery music. I have just had a little dance around to The Ting Tings - great DJ.

Being in a field with my friends listening to great music and having the odd sherbert.

    Amazing gigs.

    Clean sheets.

It's the last day of term and the students are coming in for various things, they're all in such a happy mood that it makes me smile. One of them brought us (in the office) presents and cards from their group which was nice. Someone else is bringing cake, and later I expect there will be a little glass of bubbly.

I'm going on holiday 2 weeks today (that's a big thing that makes me happy).

I'm seeing my family tomorrow and it's my dad's 60th party which means I will see lots of family friends I haven't seen for ages, which is lovely (including my god daughters who I don't see often enough).

My OU course is over and I can relax, and also start being of more use round the house again - MrSC has been a star for the last 9 months but other people never do it quite how you want it done do they?!

Opening a packet of haribo/skittles/fruit pastilles to find there are more red or black sweets than any other flavour.

    driving fast.

my friend's 2yr old son telling her i'm funny.

mr bw telling a ridiculous joke, or acting like a complete loon.

listening to my ipod on shuffle, and getting a really good run of songs that i love that i've not heard in ages.

What has made me smile inside recently has been being in the garden, weeding, tidying things up a bit, moving stuff around, re-potting plants and generally watching everything grow. Then collapsing on the sunlounger with a nice drink and feeling pleased with myself that the garden is looking so lovely! Linked to sitting in the garden is being lucky to live in the countryside surrounded by wildlife, particularly birds. I love the sound of birdsong and theres a lovely little blackbird who sits in the tree everyday singing his little heart out, I love it.

I love fresh sheets. When I'm really tired or ill all I think about is getting home under fresh sheets. It would be nice if soemone except me could change them, of course.

I love saturday mornings in bed with a bag of satsumas watching come dine with me on catch up (i am a bit of a satsuma addict)

I love coming home from the library/ bookclub/ shops with a fresh pile of books waiting to be explored.

PS My BIL worked in the woman who owns the white companies house. He said it was stunning (and all white) and she had two perfect beautiful children. sigh. I want her life. I want to go home to an oasis of white and calm.

It's frightfully twee but I love it when my cat curls up on my neck(!) She purrs happily, bats my nose with her paw, licks my jaw and gazes into my eyes with her gorgeous blue eyes. I can feel my blood pressure dropping and it's soooo relaxing.

I'm also very easily pleased by the sight of a glass full of decent wine!

That's just made me smile too. What a lovely thread.

I love it when I make a child laugh or squeal with delight in the nursery I volunteer at.

I'm happy I've finally found a nursery that has let me volunteer there (not such a little thing I suppose).

The sound of my computer at my main job turning off at the end of the day.

The glug of the bottle as it opens and you pour.

When my OH is all fresh and clean out of the shower.

When my dad holds up the phone to his cat, Rose, who makes a mewing noise down the phone to me. So twee!

    This always makes me smile.

But as for small things that make me happy...

My dogs getting really excited when I get home always cheers me up.
How H has a glass of wine for me ready when I get home on a Friday night.
Waking up at 'work time on a weekend and realising it's not a workday so you can go back to sleep.

    Just cleaned sheets.

Freshly cut grass and the smell of BBQs.

Walking by the River Thames on a sunny day.

Paying off the last bits of our big holiday in August.

Talking to my best mate on the phone (she lives in Canada).

JUst thought of one that keeps me going at the moment. After a day at home alone, the big bear-hug my H gives me, before he does anything else, when he gets home from work. Sorry a little twee but it makes me so happy. x

Walking out of the school gates on a Friday while the bell is still ringing! We read a book with year 7 called "Gowie Corby Plays Chicken" and there's a line in there about running along the road with the "Friday freedom feel" and I always get it walking to the station on a Friday! It feels completely different to any other day.

I'm with Chook on the post excercise righteous pain (aside from the stabbing pain in my dodgy tendon).

The five year old Master Iris telling me a joke Q: What do you call a man with a spade in his head?

A: Dig ? He didn't understand why I found it so funny.

When I've been at work late and H says the dog's been waiting for me. When Dylan Cat comes over for a cuddle - it's like snuggling with a breathing, purring hot water bottle. When my little nieces phone me for daft things - like when Issi called to promise me a sunflower plant because she'd got a spare, or when Maria rang just because she hadn't seen me. When my students seem to recognise that teachers are actually human beings - one of my year 10 boys gave me such a lovely wave as I left this afternoon. I'm easily pleased really.

Officially I think we're supposed to be at work until 3.40 (bell goes at 3.30) but seeing as the Head has been known to drive past me on a Friday, I don't think anyone is counting at the end of the week! I'm one of the first in every day so I feel no qualms at all about getting out quick sometimes. And ditto on the students seeing you as people - I have two y8 girls who walk down to the gates with me on a Friday and we chat about Doctor Who and silly things and wish each other a nice weekend, and it always makes me smile.

When my 3 yr old licks my cheek. He hardly never kisses and this is his way of kissing. He has to woof and pretend to be a dog when he's doing it. Just makes me fell loved ? And of course it makes me laugh.

I was going to say 'I want to work at your school' but seeing as we finish at 3pm anyway I still think I'm onto a winner. I do leave at about 3.10 on Friday's - I'm there from 7.30 in the mornings and till at least 4 every other day, so I don't owe them anything. There's a lot of weird snobbery about staying late in some schools - ours is one of them. I'd rather be efficient and leave at a sensible time.?

Yesterday I taught my friend's little girl to ride her bike without stabilisers while I was babysitting her. That made me very happy.

Like Welsh Totty, I love hearing the birdsong - I have some lovely tweeters in my back garden that wake me up in the morning.

My 'sunny patch' on my bed, where the evening sun comes in through the window. I lie in it reading and relaxing.

Taking my heels off at the end of a day in work.

?Just taught my son how to shell peas - such a lovely summer moment.

Opening a new jar of peanut butter and doing the Calvin and Hobbes thing of drawing a line down the middle and only eating one side for as long as possible. I can't be alone on this, can I? ?

I've just thought of something else that makes me happy- those boxes of Tampax that come with purple, yellow and green (mini, normal and super) all in the same box. Makes having one's period really fun!
