So upset

izzy_on_the_rocks, 16 March, 2011 at 10:58 Posted on Planning 0 16

I want to buy my little baby boy a baby suit for the wedding, the waist coat is the same colour as his daddies (although not the same pattern etc obviously). The outfit is made for babies, its cotton and soft and comfy. I just wanted my little guy to look "part" of the wedding party as he is will be too young to do anything more than charm everybody in a 10 mile radius with his smile and cooing.

Just been made to feel that I am treating my baby like a dress up doll. Very upset. Stupid thing is the comment was made by somebody who isn't even friend/family. Maybe I am being oversensitive. Needed to vent, sorry. Feel like super crap mum. I wasn't going to make him wear anything remotely uncomfortable and he will always have his everyday clothes in case he doesn't like wearing a 3 piece although to be honest I have had him in joggerbums, jeans and wee tops before and he seems perfectly content to wear anything at all not just babygrows. Sorry not making much sense now! Just very upset. Blaming the hormones.

Dont worry about it, you are taking a practical approach to it and just want him to look part of the wedding party, you are not doing anything to make him uncomfortable or unsuitable so stuff em, whoever they were that said it. If it makes you feel any better I am toying with putting a colour co-oridnated neckerchief on my dog so he looks dresed up for the day and he isnt even a human!

Sounds to me like someone has just got themselves a spot on the "not invited" list, assuming they weren't already on it...

I ordered extra BM material so i can have a cape made for my dog for pictures! lol

Back to the OP - do not let some stupid person with a stupid comment upset you & make you doubt yourself. I think its a lovely idea & as you said if the suit is uncomfortable then you will have clothes for him to change into - sounds like you've thought it through!

Don't worry - he will look gorgeous and like you say, if he is uncomfortable then you'd change him. It's clear you've got his best interests at heart x

What's wrong with dressing up babies? They look so cute. I've warned my OH that until the ages of two any children we may have are likely to be dressed exclusively in outfits with animal ears. As long as the baby is comfortable (which you already said he would be, so that's covered) then it's your choice what he wears, and nobody else's!

Ignore them!! I would have wanted my little man dressed up for such an important day. Get him his little suit and have some fab pictures taken ?

Its amazing how the slightest criticism can upset us when the hormones are raging, don't doubt yourself you are his mum and have his best interests at heart!

Also what exactly did they expect him to be wearing, if you had brought him along in his everyday blue with a hint of puke baby gro I bet that person would have been first to say, well she could have made an effort! I have seen loads of pics with babys in little suits n stuff at weddings. You cant please everyone so please yourself!

There is NOTHING cuter than a baby in a waistcoat at a wedding. My son had a little waistcoat for my sister's wedding - he was barely walking at the time - but he and my niece looked SOOOOOOOO cute together they stole the show.

A bad mum would take thier baby to a wedding in a tatty old babygro or stretched out old jumper. You're not treating him like a doll, just making sure he's 'involved' in the wedding (even if he's not old enough to appreciate it!) and anyone who says different is a miserable old moo and you should ignore them.

Don't listen to them!! I think it is really cute when i see little ones all dressed up in kilts to go with the men so you stick to what you want and don't think about it for one more second!!!

Tell them to sod off! It's made me angry for you after reading that. You are not a crap mum at all. My youngest wore a suit to my sil's wedding last May when he was 10 months old and he looked so cute, I also doubt very much that he was uncomfy as he was asleep for most of the day!

Interfering people really pi$$ me off!
