Send an email round pointing out that it was yours and asking them to replace it.

Erm, go to Pret? How big is your company? I wouldn't have a hope in hell of finding the culprit in my office as it's huge but it might be easier with a smaller one. What do you want to do?

Edited to add: I replied without really thinking about it but now that I have I'm really annoyed. I can't believe some people, I would never dream of taking someone elses food. What the f*ck is wrong with people that they can't bring their own s*dding lunch? <And breathe>

Its a fair large department with mostly senior employees in so I don't really want to go pointing the finger, but it is very rude IMO. I think I'd like whoever it was to know that's not on and won't be tolerated (that sounds a bit extremely I know it was only a sandwich!).

I don't think it's extreme to get someone to fess up and get you a sandwich to replace it though. It shouldn't be tolerated, personally if someone had done that to me I wouldn't be able to afford to buy lunch from somewhere else so that means I wouldn't get to eat until the evening. I'd be starving and mad!

This happened to my friend, it was one of the directors, he fessed up after she sent an email round - to be fair he thought it was some sandwiches that had been left after a meeting .. quite often there is stuff left over ...

Thanks everyone. I've left a note to that effect on the fridge door!

This happened to me a few weeks ago, my diet coke and rice were in the fridge but my chicken pack had gone walkabout.

I sent an email but noone fessed up. I moaned about it all afternoon and everyone in the office was talking about who it could have been (there are only about 20 of us total).

Got home that night and chicken was still in the fridge at home, I had forgotten to take it to work.

I didn't ever fess up at work though, was too embarassed! ?

And you sure you didn't eat it this morning?! (Also something I have been known to do - 'who's eaten my chocolate bar?! grrr' ... 'err Hep check the bin, you ate it this morning')

    ?

A similar(ish) thing happened to me. This particularly horrible woman at work had a "tidy" of the fridge and I found my M&S salad in the bin! It was one day passed it's Best Before date (I'd bought it the day before along with that day's lunch) and she'd taken it upon herself to throw it away "for me". I was livid. Luckily the packaging wasn't broken and I could retrieve it and eat it but I just couldn't see what made her Fridge Monitor.

I used to work with a very strange bloke who didn't believe in use by dates - fair enough - however, he used to remove the dates from everyone else's food that was in the fridge....you can imagine he was not a popular chap.

What a bizarre thing to do!

Friend of mine lived in nurses home attached to the hospital where she worked. Each floor had its own kitchen area with a communal fridge. Someone kept taking food from the fridge that wasn't theirs. One of the nurses finally had enough, and laced a a tub of ice cream with laxative. Very liberally, apparently. Sure enough, the ice cream went missing. After that, nothing else disappeared from the fridge!

You see then we get into a Best Before or a Use By argument. Best Before is a "guideline" and as such I thought it was fine and not strictly out of date. Use By ... maybe I wouldn't have eaten it then but the choice was that or go without - it was just before payday and I was broke! ?

It's going to be weird not having a job for a while, but I, I definitely don't care about my sandwich.

I love that episode - MY SANDWICH!

I once bought a punnet of stubbornly hard nectarines to work and put them on the windowsill to ripen. Just as they had reached a pitch of perfection, one of them went missing. I could have killed for that nectarine.

I bought profiteroles and took them to work last year.

When i went to get them at lunchtime, there was 2 left in the pot (had previously been 4)

I had pmt and went mad. I dumped the two left in the bin as i imagined someone opening the packet and using their fingers to rummage in the pot to eat the two.

There are 8 of us in work and one of the dentists was known for helping herself. Everyone was disgusted and immediatley blamed her on my behalf.

got home and was telling H, he was sheepish and said that he had helped himself to two of them as he didnt realise i was taking them to work!

I've never come clean and i still feel guilty now that we all blamed her for days lol
