I think they aren't so much tacky as not exactly original...in the nicest possible way of course. Do a search, you will see how often this has been posted about!

We aren't having one, but that's because we have enough other stuff!

I think they are a sweet (no pun intended) idea, but I went to a wedding in December that had a sweetie bar, and hardly any of it got eaten. It looked great though! Maybe if there had been more kids there it would have got eaten! I don't think that many grown ups like to eat sweets that much. Or not loads of them anyway.

If you look at the 'what would u not have' thread its a mixed bag for sweetie buffets.

I'm neither up nor down bout them. Think they good fun but bare no relevence to weddings.

If u going for laid back low key (more my scene) then it would work well. If u going for the very formal wedding then i dont think a sweetie buffet would look right.

We had one and it went down well. We chose to have one for 2 main reasons, ,

1/ because I have a very sweet tooth and

2/ because our hotel didn't offer anything sweet on our evening buffet menu.

As far as them not being original there isn't a bride out there that is going to have a truly 100% original wedding.

    This!

I've been to I think 6-8 weddings in the last few years. Of them only one had a sweetie buffet. It was 4 years ago and people are STILL talking about how fab it was to have a pick and mix beside all the sausage rolls and chicken wings.

I am definitely having one. Candy stripe bags and everything. I don't care if nobody eats any of it. I will have it all!

I'm having one for the exact same reasons as LoveSka.

Also, I think it's done to death on here but I have never been to a wedding that has one and anyone I have mentioned it to has never seen one either. So just because it's common on hitched doesn't mean its common in the real world!

Who cares if it's tacky?!? We're having one, i'm not too bothered about one but h2b has a sweet tooth so he really wanted one. He'll probably be eating that instead of his dinner!

I don't think they're 'tacky' as such just not for me, but that's because I don't have a sweet tooth (hot sausage rolls and pasties and I'd be there!) I've never seen one at a wedding, myself, in fact I'd never heard of them unitl I started reading Hitched, so if you want one, go for it!

Not for me...but then wouldnt really fit in with me or my H2B and would probably be wasted

in the evening rather than a buffet we're having bacon cobs & a stack of cup cakes for the sweet Smiley smile

I definately dont think they're tacky, i think if there's plenty of kids at the wedding then why not? Kids love nothing more than sweets, and especially whilst speeches etc are being said, there will be no screaming kids as they'll be stuffing their faces with sweets lol, not like it happens everyday so its gonna do no harm..

I will definately be having one, its our wedding, but we also want everyone to enjoy their day, not just the adults.

    xx

    It's not for us.

We're not big sweetie fans, and we are having a children free wedding. That said, I would grab a bag if at someone elses so I don't hate them, just wouldn't have one myself.

We are having one - kind of! The wedding "party" is being carried on to the Sunday of our wedding weekend with a BBQ and garden games etc and we are having a sweetie buffet at this. Our reasoning behind this is that we are getting married in Scotland but a lot of family and friends are travelling from England for the wedding and we wanted to make it worth while people coming a long way and giving them an opportunity for a weekend away. We will also be inviting all the children that are not invited to the ceremony the day before.

ITA re: no bride will be 100% original.

I don't think they are tacky - but they are very popular!

I'm having a table with lots of cakes, shortbread, fudge etc on it - mostly to keep costs down plus my friends are amazing bakers and it's a gift from them.

    Have what you like!

I've been looking and think we will be having one. 1 because we have 18 kids coming and 2 of our own, 2 because I'm a sweet fan and 3 it's something more at night to nibble on as we're just having bacon or sausage barms and wedges. Gonna have few cakes and things I think, not just sweets x

I had one as it was too late and expensive for a full buffet, I also didn't want people sitting down eating. I wanted them up dancing.

It went down a storm! I also had toffee apples and popcorn. I got a company to do it as it worked out about the same price and wasone less thing to worry about.

We had one at our wedding last year, and it was very popular. We had a lot of sweets and there was hardly anything left, and we had no kids at our wedding other than H2Bs 2 boys (one who doesn't eat sweets) and my nephew, so it was all eaten by adults and people still talk about it now.

I bought most of the sweets from Costco and then the Christmas before the wedding I bought some Roses and Quality street and other bits on offer and then I bought jars and bowls in various places like Ikea and Morrisons (morrisons ones were lovely and really cheap !!). We had striped bags and scoops and I printed out labels to match our stationery and the venue laid it all out for us in the evening next to the main buffet.

Like others have said, although they are popular on wedding forums and I have been to other weddings with some sweets in bowls in the evening I have never been to another wedding that had an actual sweetie buffet like we did (and I went to 9 weddings in 2010 !!)

We had one and it went down a storm with kids and adults alike!

When i was discussing it with guests beforehand, they didnt know what one was and thought it was a fab idea! Like others have said, i really only came to know about it from this forum and reading wedding magazines. If its what you want, go for it i say!
