Table Names

whiteroserachel, 11 February, 2011 at 12:08 Posted on Planning 0 21

Is anyone else giving their tables names rather than numbers? If so, what are you calling them?

With only having four tables at the wedding breakfast I'm worried it'll seem a bit pretentious if we give them names but my family situation is a bit fragile and I know if I just give them numbers then there'll be mumblings of "why is X on table 2 and I'm only on table 4" which I'd rather avoid!

Yeah we are! We are giving them names of bars/restaurants of our favourite holiday resort. I don't think it's pretentious, for us it's a bit of fun. I know what you mean too, I'm, defo not having numbers on any tables and we are not having an official top table either because of step families etc.

We are too, I think if you are having a ‘theme’ for your wedding then it can tie everything in nicely or like angiemace – something that is specific to you, is a lovely touch and much nicer than numbers.

We are choosing oceans and seas for our table names as we are both passionate marine conservationists and the whole wedding is themed around all things aquatic!

We have named our table after our pets as they can't physically be there but we love them all the same!

Our "theme" so to speak is roses, so we have named each table after a different rose.

We have 16 tables and we are using Northern Ireland landmarks, national trust places etc because thats where were from. No theme as such, just something everyone will know! Maybe put a 'fact' about the landmark on the back for a talking point or something.x

We're having my OH's Bradford City dream team lol table names are one of the things I'm pretty relaxed about, they won't enhance my enjoyment of the day at all and it's actually made him excited about picking them and deciding who's worthy of each table ?

Unfortunately, it means that the seating plan is going to be laid out like a football pitch but again, who really cares, OH is thrilled that I've 'let' him have this

We've just moved to the south coast, so although the wedding is in croydon, all our table names will be local beaches! we have got crystal tree things as our centre pieces and we are going to hang pics of the beaches (and some love quotes) on them, ties witht he ribbon to match our colour scheme!

at a wedding i went to, the table numbers were cd covers and instead of a list of the songs on the back, it was a list of all the people on the table! was a good talking point too!

We're only having 6 tables but as H2B is having little in put on colours etc (his choice, his word I'm better at that sort of thing) i told him he could name the talbes...his choice (rather predictably) Leeds United Legends. He is putting a lot of thought into which 6 legends are worthy to be our table names.

We're really into films, one of the first things we did together was get cinema passes and we go all the time so we're naming them after our favourite films. I'm framing the names in vintage style frames much like the (fabulous) flash above! We think it'll be a real talking point! We're having the top table as either Stand By Me or the King and I, one of the tables will be One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest (think I'll put most of my family on there ha) and another table is The Goonies (think we'll put his friends on there!) so it's all a bit tongue in cheek and a laugh which is exactly the relaxed and fun vibe we're going for with the whole day. That's what we think anyway!!

I know some people think it's tacky having table names but you really can't please everyone and whenever I go to weddings with just numbers for the tables I always think they've missed a really easy way to inject some personality into the day! Then again not everyone has much of a personality haha.

We're having places we've been to on holiday for our table names. Where possible we've sat the people we went on holiday with on that specific table.

Myself and H2B are massive beetle/camper van fans so we are going to name after different type of VeeDubs (hence my user name!!!)

We are having somehting similar Lightmachine

My partner loves football and his team is Barcelona so that will be the head table. All the other tables are being named after European Football Clubs. As you said my OH is thrilled with this. I even suggested it. I have a large family 80+ where as he has a small one 10+ so wanted to make sure had something to reflect him!

A couple I made stationery for last year used names of places in Italy that they'd visited on the trip they were on when they got engaged, which made things a little more personal. You could perhaps use the names of your favourite flowers?

We're having yellow for our wedding colour, and a different yellow flower in the center of each table within a fishbowl - so we're naming the tables based on the flower on each one.

Something like; The Rose Table, The Lily Table, The Daffodil Table, etc, etc.

The overwhelming consensus seems to be in favour of table names so I think that's what we'll do. We're honeymooning in New York so that might work quite well as a theme (Times Square, Central Park etc.) although with just four tables it's hard to resist the temptation to have John, Paul, George and Ringo. ?

We are having each table as a year of our relationship, although there are mroe tables so we also have the years we were born! then putting a little photo from each year. Ideally i would like to do a few lines about events in each year as well but see how much time and effort i have!

A favourite of mine is having 'i love you' in a different language for each table, we are only not using that because a friend did it.
