I'm in Scotland and its not supposed to get bad up here but I'm still a bit worried. Normally I love the rain and wind but we have a huge hole in our ceiling anyway and we've been camping on our living room floor for a month waiting on people fixing it. The last serious storm we had here took our flat roof off, so now I dread it!!
Yes. Our roof isn't in great shape we recently found out and we have a garden full of builders rubbish from building work on our house that a skip is coming for on Monday. I can't be bothered collecting it all if it gets blown everywhere in the meantime!
I was dreading it, as a travel agent when bad weather strikes we get inundated with "but why has my flight been cancelled?" phone calls, then I remembered I'm on annual leave with the kids for half-term so I won't get the calls. I suspect my garden fence won't survive it (kind of hoping it doesn't) as we're in desperate need of a new one.
I work at a campsite on the south coast so I'm more concerned for the guests we've got staying in their touring caravans/motorhomes than I am for myself but the side wall of my house seems to be acting like a sponge at the moment and water is coming through it so I'm not looking forward to even more rain battering it :/
I'm not too worried. We are due to get hit but as long as the cat is in I'll be fine. H and I are working tomorrow evening but there's plenty of rooms at the hotel if the lanes around us get blocked and we can't get home. This has happened before when there was flooding and fallen trees. November last year the hotel cellars ended up knee-deep in water and the lanes were awful to drive on.
I wasn't cos I thought it was all just being ridiculously hyped up by the media and were in the North, so don't think we will be as affected by it.
BUT last night I was woken up by the most enormous bang and pounding rain, cr*pped myself and the poor dog came running up to us! I got up and there was a flash of lightning that lit up the room. It doesn't normally bother me, but it shocked me so much, now I feel a bit more on edge.
My daughter's planned Guide camp has been transformed into an indoor camp in a hall. Otherwise it shouldn't have too much impact on us, as long as the big ash tree in the garden doesn't come down onto the house!
Lots of safety vibes to those in the south. I'm in Lancashire and it's not meant to hit here but it's still chucking it down and blowing a gale outside.
Not been in the house long so not sure what impact it might have. Couple of trees at the bottom of the garden but they wouldnt reach the house. I'm expecting to lose the garden wall as that is already loose!!
I'm not scared as such. Just hoping there isn't much damage.
My garden fences are on tier last legs so they might go. I've already taken things like the sun brollie off the table in the garden and put it in the garage, will bring delicate pots inside.
It's already fairly windy (I'm in Hertfordshire), not sure where is meant to be hit the worst.
Okay I am starting to get worried now... As I said i live in Wiltshire... I'm at work until 8.30 and then got a 20 mile drive home... The wind is so loud here already and the rain wont stop so definitely starting to worry
We're smack bang in the middle of it all too, but we've panic-bought all our torches, candles and rum, so we're good. Not worried at all. Kind of hoping to get a message first thing that the kids' school is shut though.... They're wimps about weather and shut at the slightest hint of snow, so I imagine a good storm will have them bolting the doors.
The worst of it is meant to be late tonight and tomo morning but the wind seems to be picking up. Im a bit concerned about traveling tomorrow morning. We've secured everything in our garden so will just see how it all gets on. I really hope they are hyping it up. Hope everyone gets on OK!
Well I know there are no trains on Greater Anglia line or through Tunbridge Wells until aftre 9.00am tomorrow morning, then they say they expect disruption all the day. I guess they are preparing for the worst, hopefully its not bad.
I'm in T Wells. It's been really windy all day but nothing too bad at the moment, I think it has just started to rain. Luckily we have many many candles in the cupboards and the cats are curled up on the bed asleep. There is a huge tree next to the house that would do some serious damage if it fell, but hopefully it will be ok.
Last year we had really bad winds that took down a tree on the road parallel to ours killing a man in his van. His passenger survived as he had bent down to pick up a lighter if I remember correctly. Fingers crossed it's just a bit of media hype and it will pass with minimal damage
Wind has been pretty strong here all day but is definately picking up now. Had to have a meeting at work today to get an evacuation procedure in place for this evening just in case and lots of our customers decided to give up this afternoon and have gone home before the storm hits. Met Office predictions have been lessening throughout the day for here so I'm hoping it's not too bad for the families in their touring caravans and motorhomes (no tents left thankfully!)
