The Wind

bliss_balloons , 5 December, 2013 at 14:21 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 31

This is my first time starting a thread so hello! Hope everyone is ok and not getting blown about too much. It's pretty windy here (Worcester) but not half as bad as in Scotland!

Lost a fence post (which my lovely lovely neighbour has secured for me) and lots of houses on my estate have lost their roof tiles

Part of our roof has dislodged at work and we're losing insulation to the wind. I was hoping this meant we'd get to go home, but no such lucK!

Not too bad in Derby, one wheelie bin on the floor but the wind isnt constant. Cat flap is annoying though, if it gets too windy it blows outwards, it cant blow inwards as it is a microchip one. Very bizarre and noisy!!!

    Hello & welcome to OT!
Quite bad here but it's calmed down a bit, this morning was the worst.
Went to red alert and the local hospital went into lockdown and wouldn't let anyone down as the new roof was blown off and there was loads of trees down and debris blowing about.
Looked out this morning to see a trampoline chasing a man down the street and a few wheelie bins joining in ? Also lost the fence in the back garden, more bothered about the homeless and wildlife & birds etc tbh..always feel sorry for them Smiley sad

It is not horrible here in Surrey, but some unexpected gushes for sure!

A colleague based in Machester said they had power cables cuts.

    Hope everyone stay safe!

    Helloo there!

I am in Scotland, so I've seen/driven in gusts of over 90mph today!

Got to work (which had no power!) then had to hang about while some boxes were ticked and people were spoken to etc then sent home to await news. Just about 1.30 we heard that we wouldn't be reopening today.

Have had a lovely day watching Cake Boss, wrapping presents and FBing!

Very blustery in Kent but nothing like Scotland and the North of England. Otter-love to all those affected.

And Norfolk Otters - get your wellies on! (Fingers crossed that tidal surge doesn't do any bad stuff to you and yours)

    Eurgh, it's been horrible here.

The wind blew down all the panels separating our garden from the neighbours, so I spent a good 20 minutes this morning on my hands and knees trying to crawl through a bush to retrieve our pup from next door. She's a right moo when she wants to be and pretends she doesn't hear you. She wouldn't even move for cheesy bites this morning ?

I'm still finding bits of twig in my hair.

It's been pretty nasty here, there have been multiple trees down, power cables on the road and a trampoline in the village square! Power went out at 7 this morning and has come back on in the last hour. It's now snowing quite heavy! Yay for winter! :-)

I'm worrying about my granny who is in Wales, apparently Rhyl is flooded.

Our massively OTT huge cast iron school railing blew down today!

It's pretty bad here in North Wales. There has been some flooding and homes have been evacuated nearby.

Just seen this Pandorasbox. Parts of Rhyl and Kimnel Bay are flooded and houses are being evacuated they seem to be dealing with it well and I haven't heard any disaster stories.

I'm in Leeds. It was very windy here this morning. Woke up to someone elses garden furniture in my garden and my greenhouse looks as though a bomb has gone off (it's one of those plastic zip up cover ones) everything is off the shelves and all over the floor - soil carnage!!

The fence between us and next door is also scattered all over the garden - joy! The patio heater keeps banging against the wall it is tied too and annoying the puppy!.

All in all ok though - feel very sorry for those without power or in much worse situations.

It's just absolutely freezing here now - we had a few snow flakes earlier but alas nothing more. I love snow!

It's not been a good day for us in Scotland!

I had about two hours sleep with whistling and drafty windows. I was awake since about 5am counting roof tiles and we were in the garden since 8am for about two hours.

    Damage tally so far:

    5 or 6 roof slates

puddle of water on bedroom floor (tbf just adding to what's there already!)

greenhouse (woke up to it lying twisted in the middle of the garden, the whole thing kept lifting up and going towards the kitchen window) H had to dismantle it piece by piece.

    Six big plant pots

    one greenhouse shelving unit

    a huge tray of seedlings/cuttings

me (all three bins flew towards (and hit) me and when lifting a greenhouse panel I sliced my finger!)

the trampoline lifted straight up in the air but it died down so we just left it and are hoping for the best!!

I didn't think it was too bad by us but a man got hit by a tree (he's ok) and I was driving to go and get the dogs food and a massive thick piece of branch fell off right in front of me, didn't have time to stop so I kind of swerved and drove over part of it but the car seems ok. There were bits of tree falling the whole journey though. I went home a different way.

It didn't seem that windy here but when l got up this morning the wooden gates down the side of our house were literally hanging on by a thread. More expense we don't need!

I hope everyone is safe and the clean up isn't too bad

Didn't think it was too bad here, certainly no damage to our house or garden but one of my colleagues had a branch/tree land on his car yesterday while he was driving and it's written it off. Thankfully he was fine though.

Hope none of our otters or their families have been hit too badly

I had an absolute mare with the transport system yesterday because of it but thankfully was fine in my local area. Took 7 hours to get home from Manchester
