Things you didn't know, but probably should...

Arquard, 29 April, 2012 at 19:37 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 53

A lighthearted one for a Sunday evening. Apologies if this has been done before!

I just found out that Leeds Castle isn't in Leeds. It's actually nowhere near Leeds, instead being in Kent. Quite how this knowledge hadn't presented itself to me before now, I have no idea, but I'm boggled. Why not call it Kent Castle??

That a haggis wasn't a real live animal cavorting around the hills of Scotland (cheers dad!) Also that Father Christmas wasn't real, I found out about 11 or 12 ?

Leeds Castle is in Leeds village in Kent near Maidstone. I lived in Maidstone and it is the most beautiful castle.

A girl I knew from Uni picked Leeds Uni under the pretence it would be near her boyfriends Uni in Canterbury. She was from the south coast and had never been anywhere near Yorkshire

    Sat Nav dashed those dreams.

When I was a kid, my parents took me and my brother for a day trip to the beach. We had these little people (a family) that we took with us to play with, and my brother buried one of them, and then couldn't find it. I was quite devastated to go home with one of the people (called Little Simon) missing.

A year later, we went back to the same beach, and when choosing where to sit, my mum said 'this is the same place we were last year'. We were playing in the sand, when lo and behold, we uncovered Little Simon. It was a miracle I believed in until last year when (at the age of 23) my Mum revealed that she had actually bought a replacement and planted it there ? I was horrified by the deception, I actually thought a miracle had happened.

At first I was reading it as real 'little people' you went on holiday with i.e. the PC term for a family of midgets/dwarves! (hopefully not causing more offence saying that)

Sorry! Perhaps I should have said family of little plastic people lol.

I actually didn't realise that Flo.rida was just Florida with a full stop in it until just now.

A cerebral haemorrhage can cause a stroke but isn't a stroke in itself. Most strokes aren't cause by a bleeding event.

My dad did that to me about sheep - he called them hillside dodgers!! I went back to school and told all my friend's.

I had one just last week when I was trying to thread a needle, my bloody false nails were getting in the way so I tried using one of those threader things, but I still couldn't do it. It wasn't until I was telling my colleague about it that she asked if I had put the threader through the whole and then put the thread in. Oops, there was me for 20 minutes trying to thread it by putting the thread in the threader before going anywhere near the needle!!

It's very near me. There are instances of people getting taxis and ending up in Yorkshire. I believe.

The two hamsters I had as a youngster, who were named Magic and Tricks, lived for almost 8 years.

No they did. Honestly. It wasn't my mum replacing them with similar hamsters when one of them passed, because she thought I was too young to deal with the loss of a pet back then. It wasn't.

    OK it was.

But I didn't work that out until a few years ago!

A friend of mine at work used to think that Southern Ireland was totally barren and no one lived there because they didnt talk about it on the weather forecast but they did mention Northern Ireland. Until I kindly told her they don't show it because it is not part of the UK but Northern Ireland is !

This might be a bit more controversial than other posts but until the last few years, I honestly didn't realise that some people really believed stories like Adam and Eve and Noah's Ark to be the literal truth.
