Top table help

shell657, 3 July, 2012 at 19:20 Posted on Planning 0 16

How many people are you having on your top table?

When I told my marquee suppliers i wanted a top table of 10 they suggested that this might not be aesthetically pleasing? Why do you think this is? I never asked why they had this opinion.

My top table seating plan is:

BM - BM - FIL - MIL - Groom - Bride - FOB - MOB - BM - BM

My bridesmaids are my sisters who i am very close to so i want them on my top table, do you think this would look ok with 10 people?

Sometimes it can be a bit long and hard for everyone to talk to each other. Also how many people are you having on all the other tables?

Having said that I'll prob end up having about 20 on my top table to keep everyone happy!

I have 9 tables of 10 people & 2 tables of 8. My set up isn't really to do with keeping them happy, it's more because I want them up there with us!

I'm having 10 on mine. We have an L shaped table so may not look as long, maybe suggest that depending on the room shape?

My venue only have a max top table of 8 and I've got 9 main wedding party. Thinking of sitting OH somewhere else lol. But seriously, could a more horse shoe shape work at your venue to try and get round this? Not ideal i know but worth a thought.

We're going to have a round top table, so we can fit 10 people on it if we want to

We were originally having 10 until OH brother dropped out (long story!) so now have 9 which I think is more arkward as there is uneven number either side of me and OH!!

10 seems fine to me, I think its a strange comment that it wont look right!

Us, my 'rents, his 'rents, my MOH and his BM, that's it. The rest of the bridal party (i.e my other BM and his 2 ushers) will sit with the rest of the guests. There's only five other tables (50 guests total) so I didn't want to too many on the toptable, it'd look top-heavy (pardon the pun!!)

I can't see a problem with it. You won't be able to all talk to each other but to be honest we had 8 and we couldn't either. Not that it mattered - I barely sat down the whole meal and everyone chair hopped between courses anyway!

We are having the traditional 8 but I dont see how 2 more people would make a difference to how it looked.

    I am either having 2, 4 or 6.

Between us we have 4 sets of parents, 3 of which would be on the top table, I think it would just end up getting a bit messy as they dont really get along so to make it fair, they can all have their own tables and sit with their family.

Ideally I would like to have us 2, my MOH, his best man and then another friend on either side. It does mean splitting my MOH up from her husband but its only for a few hours so I am sure they wont mind. He will have some friends on the table so he wont be on his own.

    We had:

    BM - BM - MoB - FoB - MoH - Bride - Groom - Best Man - MoG - FoG - BM

(the last BM also being sister of groom)

so a similar kind of layout with BMs at the edge. I thought it was fine, can't see why it wouldn't be "aesthetically pleasing"! I could talk to my husband and my MoH, I had the rest of the day to talk to the others on the top table.

The traditional British arrangement is for 8 anyway, so what's 2 more?? Unless there wasn't much space, I think they're just being awkward.

    The 'traditional' way goes

    Chief BM - G'sFather - B's Mother - Groom - Bride - B's Father - G's Mother - Best Man

Does yours mean you have no best man or groomsmen and just 4 bridesmaides, or is one of the BM's the best man? If I was you, I would be tempted to use this arrangement, I like the fact that the families are mixed (especially if all the BMs are bridesmaids and sisters, which makes a lot of your family and not much of his), and just keep the 2 BMs at either end.

I like the whole boy-girl thing so this is what we're doing, luckily for me my brother is giving me away so both of our immediate families are all up there with us x

We've got 9. We're just sitting another Bridesmaid next to the Best Man.
