Unusual Names (another name thread)

Panjita, 20 July, 2011 at 16:21 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 44

What is the most unusual name in your family/group of friends (now or in the past)?

I know a girl called Fuchsia. I've never heard of anyone else with that name.

    I knew a Primrose Lillicrap.

And a Robert Sole (R Sole)

    Both are sadly true.

Oh good **rubs hands together**, I love these...

Am I allowed to use names of children I used to teach?

There was Chase, Chance, Phuc and Champayne (yes, that's right, it was spelt wrong). Not all in the same class though.

Oh and a Paric (also spelt wrong, and her mum admitted it was because she told the registrar the wrong spelling).

I'd say my name was pretty unusual, for a girl anyway.

    Amazing!

I once had to enrol a young man named Mr Bum Suk into university. I wasn't allowed to laugh. He was fresh from Vietnam and I thought about telling him that maybe he should consider changing his name, but decided that I might be overstepping the boundaries!

ETA: One of my tutors at uni was called Dr Frisbee Sheffield. She was an absolute legend, lovely lady. She said her parents were hippies.

My step son is called Blaise, which is quite unusual, and my youngest son is called Jacobey. Not many people have heard of that, and a few have even asked me if I made it up...

This is where I first heard it, about 10 years ago. I didn't name my son in honour of him though, i'm not really a fan. When I call my son Jacob, people then think I named him that because of Twilight...

My eldest is called Casey, and people think I named him after Casey Chaos from "Amen".

Why do eople think names have to be "after" somebody or something, gah!!!

Excatly, it's annoying. My cousin is 8 months pregnant and thinking of baby names. She had Harper on her list but no coz of the Beckhams she has taken it off as everyone would have thought she copied them. She also likes Bella and again some might think its because of Twilight, which its not.

Well when I was young I knew a Valentine, I always thought it was a ridiculous name. Especially as she was no sweetheart!

Then I can remember a Peter Peters. Obviously the product of imaginative parents. Another one that springs to mind is Mrs Nutter! Who happens to be a Very good friend but just struck out when she got married. She is now the proud mother of a whole bunch of Nutters!
