Updated: Vintage or vintage-inspired wedding dresses - please flash!

Clare247, 26 November, 2010 at 19:57 Posted on Planning 0 33

Hello,

I am venturing out on my first wedding dress shopping adventure tomorrow! At first, I thought I would want a vintage dress, but all the ones I have seen so far online or in vintage shops have been a bit, erm... not frumpy exactly but a bit big or unflattering if you know what I mean! I LOVE the 50s style knee length dresses but have got my heart set on something long. Maybe I should just get a vintage dress, rather than a vintage wedding dress if that makes sense. In my mind I'm thinking long, cream/ivory and maybe lacy but am open to ideas.

So lovely hitchers, please flash me your vintage or vintage style lessons for some inspiration - can't wait to see what you'll be wearing!

Many thanks x

Im going for a vintage theme and I think my dress is quite vintagey, its all over lace and the silvery parts on the band will all be altered to pearls and other softer materials.

It doesnt look very fitted in the model picture, but its going to be taken in much further down so it flares more like a fish tail at the bottom

Will flash when mine arrives in the shop very early january!

Not sure if mine really counts as vintage inspired, but to my eyes its very 20's/30's -ish! I always think vintage when I see lace dresses though ? And there's sooooo many beautiful lace dresses out there!

Enjoy the shopping trip and let us know what you find!

Aw thanks Sherrie ? I'm having it in ivory rather than the light gold in the pic, but knew as soon as I put it on that it was the one for me! ?

This was on "my list" to try on but I never found a stockist. I love it! If it wasn't this exact one it was very similar as it would have been from about 3 years ago and I think the lace was a little more jagged/rough around the edges. Either way, gorgeous!

Wow, some beautiful dresses - thanks everyone. Theycallmelaura - where is your dress from?

Good to see some non-lace options too, I like the satin style dresses with jewellery.

Just to update you, I had a fab day yesterday. Went to some high street shops to try on dresses but also looked in The Bridal Rooms at House of Fraser which has scared me about how huge 'proper' wedding dresses are! I'm going to book some appointments in bridal shops in the new year. These are the dresses I tried on and liked yesterday:

    Thanks for your help ladies

I bought mine on ebay. I am getting married in September so have plenty of time. I will be going to a seamstress as it will be a little big, she will embellish it for me a little. Ebay is really good and there are plenty of dresses on there. It took me a couple of months to find the perfect one, but as I say, I was in no rush. I made sure I bought one I thought may be too big so that I can get it altered. Making things smaller is easier than making things bigger.
    Here's what I bought...
