Valentine's Day is coming up...

pandorasbox, 3 February, 2014 at 17:19 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 48

Massive con or do you embrace the romance?

I'll be getting H a card but that's it. After his terrible effort at Christmas I will not be splashing out on any gifts for him for a long time!

I haven't really cared about Valentines Day since I've been married. I actually quite like the concept of having a day to celebrate your relationship, but I think it becomes redundant when you're married and have your wedding anniversary to celebrate.

I have always greatly disliked valentines day. The first one h and I spent together I told him I didn't want to do anything and he still bought me a card as he thought I was tricking him! Sometimes well have a nice meal in the house just us two (which is quite unusual for us!) I'd hate to go out and I HATE red roses (such a romantic me!). We always celebrated our get together anniversary (which is also our engagement/wedding anniversary so that day is much more special.

I couldn't care less about Valentine's day. I won't be buying OH anything, and I can't imagine he would get me anything. This V day we will be travelling back to my home town to meet up with my friend who is back from Canada for a couple of weeks! Much better than a couples night in Smiley smile

One of the girls that works for me booked Valentines day off this year, she is single but said it was 'just in case'.... I found it really odd!

I don't care about it, to me it's just one of them days in which shops get loads of money for a load of tat.

To me it shouldn't take being told to be able to express your love for someone. I would be much more grateful if OH came home tonight with a bunch of flowers than I would be if he did it on valentines day IYSWIM?

It is silly/a con, but we still embrace the romance... We send each other cards (H also gets one from the dogs ?) and he always cooks us a nice meal at home. Just out of interest (and nosiness) what was his terrible effort at Christmas?!

My OH and I don't celebrate Valentines Day and never have but a few weeks ago when I was booking tickets for the Cinema I noticed that they were showing Sleepless in Seattle and, I know its really cheesy but as we're going to New York in September, I booked tickets for us to go and see it. This will be our first Valentine's Day "date" in 13 years.

We sometimes go for a meal or something within a couple of weekends of it but don't go out that night, prefer t sit in with a dvd Smiley smile

I am not bothered about it but I will never say no to a bunch of red roses even if they are from the supermarket.

I try to embrace the romance but I am pretty much met with a brick wall!

For last Valentine's day, I bought my OH a pair of silver cufflinks to wear on our wedding day. They were engraved with the map co-ordinates of where we met (which was the same place that we got engaged).

He bought me a card and wrote in it "this is the last Valentine's card you will ever get". Safe to say, I have low/ no expectations for this year!

    We don't bother.

I'd rather my H told/showed me he loves me when he wanted to, rather than because V day says he should. It means nothing.

We don't exactly 'celebrate' it. I think in some ways it's quite sweet, but its just way too commercialised.

We'll get each other a card and a gimmicky gift and maybe light a candle when we're eating haha! Smiley smile

Flora I hope it goes well.

We don't do anything for valentines, it's a big fat waste of money IMO. Instead we'll either get a curry or dominoes delivered. No way would I want to go out on valentines and be surrounded by loads of awkward couples.

We'll be going out for a posh dinner and exchanging cards and gifts. I think it's lovely to have a little reminder to show that you care...I view it like mothers day, I love my mum all year round but that day reminds me to do something extra special to show/mark it. I love going out for dinner, everywhere is always so romantic, and you often see a proposal or two. We don't celebrate it on the same scale as birthdays or our anniversary, but we do mark it and I hope we always will.

My OH is a big mussy guy so he embraces it. Its an excuse to do a dinner date for us, in the house of course! no gifts because they're all too cheesy just us relaxing for the evening with some posh nosh!

Tis my birthday on Val's day ?

I really dislike the day. Mostly 'cos it's my birthday, but partly 'cos it's a massive con.

Last year I was super pissed off because H bought me a Valentine's card and wrote "P.S. Happy Birthday" in it.

Then he threw a strop because I didn't get him one. So, this year I've made him one. Reluctantly. It's not fair that he gets to open a card on MY birthday!!!

Hope the meds are ok, EF!

We won't really be celebrating as we are likely going to be moving into the new house that day. I did buy him a card and a print on a whim. The print is framed and will go nicely in the new kitchen, so it's not like it's a valentine's trinket. It's more of a house thing. We've never done valentine's gifts in the past, though.

This is us too - we don't go mad with it, H will make me dinner and we'll do gifts and cards. Although, considering he's been making me dinner since my knee injury, I should probably do it for him this year!

We don;t realyl do anything for it apart from usually get each other a card and he usually makes a meal for when i get home. I find it a bit of a con really, i wouldn't think to go our as it seems very forced. My H is much more romantic than me, but usually does things as a suprise or on birthdays as he doesn't like it being scheduled for Valentines day!

when i was younger though i always dreamed of having flowers delivered from a mystry man to work though haha!

Can't say we've ever done anything for Valentine's! I think we usually get each other a card and OH gets me flowers. It's my brother's birthday as well, and as we're all good friends we tend to go out for dinner for his birthday, rather than valentine's! I'm hoping this year that OH doesn't get me anything - trying to save all our pennies for buying a house!

Yes a massive con - but I still embrace it Smiley smile

Hubby won't get/do anything for me, but I've got him a card and I usually cook him something cake like (heart shaped of course). Plus I like cooking a three course meal for us as a special treat. Though with re-doing our kitchen I don't think I'll be able to. Maybe a takeaway instead.

I tend to do little 'lovey things' throughout the year anyway, but it's just a good excuse to fling heart shaped things his way Smiley smile

We don't usually bother with anything more than a card each, but this year Valentine's Day also marks 1000 days of marriage for us so I'm rather hoping H will get me something nice!

We don't do much for V day. Just a card and either M&S or Waitrose dine in deal. We may push the boat out though this year and go to the cinema!
