Vee Tee's Wedding Report 14/04/12 - *Mega Flash and also Video Link*

Vee Tee, 3 May, 2012 at 01:48 Posted on Planning 0 35

I thought when the time came to write this report that I’d be champing at the bit to get going and get it posted, but I can honestly say I don’t know where to start!! We haven’t got the discs back with all of the photos yet but we do have 300 watermarked copies from our gallery on our photographer’s website so I’ll be using some of those. This report won’t be particularly well written (especially the further into it you get as it’s taken ages to do!!!)

Wednesday 11th April 2012

Last day of work. Cannot describe how good it felt leaving work that day knowing it was all about to happen. Had a quick meal and then headed to the caravan site to pick up my cousin’s little girl (they had come up for the wedding and were staying in a caravan) and off we went round to my BM’s house to have my calgel nails put on while my little cousin played with my little BM and made friends. Introducing the girls like this was a great move as they became best of friends and kept themselves occupied on the day. As I had my calgel nails done for my hen do, all the beautician did was file them down and infill them (they were pink French which I love!) and because they’d already been on for 5 weeks my nails had grown nice and long. Don’t have a flash of those unfortunately but they were nice.

Thursday 12th April 2012

Time to get myself even more beautified! Went and picked up BM and Little BM to go to the eyelash lady’s house! (I didn’t really need them there but for moral support as I’m so shy.....) came out 40 mins later with lashes to die for, honestly I could get addicted to having those bad boys on.

Went for lunch with the girls and met H, his brother (best man), SIL, kids (FGs) and a couple of other friends with their little boy and tried to chill. Unfortunately I was a little wound up because I had found out that the hotel where we were having the wedding reception had a slight mix up with the table cloths and they were in fact blue with white overlaid rather than just white as we had told them we wanted.

Later that night my mum and I went to the hotel to lay a demonstration table so that the staff could replicate this on the day. I was able to see it all laid properly and it turns out the blue wasn’t so bad after all. I had to have my rant though and let them know I wasn’t pleased but it was only the principle of the matter that bothered me now, the tables did look good so as this is all I'm going to have time to post tonight, and I know you will want a flash, I will skip ahead to the professional shots that were taken of the tables on the wedding day.

    Friday 13th April 2012

Rehearsal day. Off we headed to the castle to meet our humanist celebrant and all the main players of the big day, to see what was going to happen the next day. For most of us there were a lot of areas we weren’t sure on so was really good to have this rehearsal. Dad walked me up the aisle and neither of us could stop laughing and carrying on. He also held his arm up far too high (he’s a good 6 inches taller than me!!) and we walked far too fast so we decided the next day we simply make sure we walk slower because I wanted to get all of my entrance music in (Groovy Kind of Love played by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra) we did a quick run though of the service, little BM did her poem, but we didn’t do the vows as these were being kept secret from each other until the day. The rehearsal cleared up all my H and I needed to know, but I think it raised more questions than it answered for everyone else as we had kept all the details to ourselves so our parents and wedding party didn’t know anything about a celtic handfasting, ringwarming etc! After the rehearsal the aunties were coming in to help my Mum and sister (CBM) set up the hall with the flowers and candles so the rest of us sneaked off to relax a bit (I know I know but seriously they all know the last person they needed there was me! I don’t have an eye for art and get a little stressy with these kind of jobs) so SIL, Kids and I headed out for lunch with H’s cousins and aunt and had a nice girly couple of hours while the men went to the pub for a pint, then it was back to the house to get showered, packed and ready for me to move into my mums for the night. We were so short on time in the end I can’t believe I had thought it was ok to go for lunch! I sometimes think I wasn’t as stressed as I needed to be!

Also that night the remainder of the families were arriving and we were having a gathering in our local social club so we could meet and greet them all and introduce each other a bit. When it came time for me to head up to mum’s, H still wasn’t ready to go, he hadn’t had lunch (just the liquid kind...) so I left him at home with instructions to make sure he had something to eat before he came up if he was going to be drinking and headed off. It was a good night and everyone was looking forward to the next day. It was shor t and sweet for me though, I had to do my Cinderella impression and get home by midnight! Back at mum and dads I felt like it was Christmas! We had a large drink or two then off we went to bed. I lay there thinking I had never been so comfy and cosy and I was unbelievably ready to drift off to sleep. I sent H a message on facebook telling him that was me off to sleep and that I missed having him there to cuddle me but I couldn’t wait to be his wife. He told me the same and that he loved me.

    Saturday 14th April 2012

Opened my eyes and found it was daylight, looked at the clock and it was 7am, managed to doze a bit longer but at 7.30 I thought I should really get up. I can’t say I was excited, there was excitement there but there were also a few nerves and actual disbelief. I really couldn’t get my head around it.

I got up and went downstairs and found mum getting breakfast organised, the hairdresser and my BMs were coming at 8.30 and we were going to have a fry up with bucks fizz. Mum got it all cooked and kept it under the grill keeping warm then went to pick the girls up. I was just wandering around like a spare part, there was nothing for me to do til they arrived, Dad came downstairs at some point as did my sister and her fiancé but the men must have disappeared and made themselves scarce pretty soon after breakfast as I can’t remember seeing them for most of the day! In fact one of the reasons I’ve been dreading writing this report is that the whole day’s a blur!!! Its coming to me now though J

We had a nice big filling scottish breakfast, that was 2 of my biggest fears taken care of.

    A) not being able to get a good night’s sleep and B) not being able to eat a good breakfast!

Oh and C) it was snowing!!!! All I could do is laugh. It was a beautiful sunny (but cold) Scottish day and this snow just came out of nowhere. I laughed hard because the last time it snowed at this time of year was the 13th of May 2010, the day we buried my H’s dad. Again it came out of nowhere that day and everyone said it was him having a good old laugh. We always said ‘see if he makes it snow on our wedding day....’ and MIL said he would make sure it was a beautiful day. Well he did both. It was beautiful before and after the snow shower!

Suddenly it was 11am and the photographers were arriving! Sis had already had her hair done and BM2 was just about finished, then it was time for her to make a start on my make up. Little BM was ready because her lovely curls were perfect as they were. All of a sudden it was my turn to get my hair done, and H’s neice, little 4 year old flowergirl arrived, then all of a sudden mum was dressed and telling me we better all start getting into our dresses it was after 12 pm!!! The BMs got dressed then started getting me into mine! The photographer waited outside the sitting room and now that I’ve seen his pics I know what he was doing, poring over my dad’s vast CD collection and doing a few unusual shots with dad as they’re both hugely into music, and have known each other for years through doing shows on the local radio station.

Next I knew I was in my dress and suddenly we realised we’d forgotten to shout the photographer back to get the lacing up shot!! The cars were here! Where had all the time gone? Mum called dad though and he said I looked beautiful. Mum says that after the wedding he told her that we couldn’t have picked a better dress for me it was just perfect (not like my dad at all, made me all fuzzy )

It was 1.11 pm when I looked at the time and said ‘oh my god its nearly quarter past and Ian’s (sisters fiancé) has not gone for the bus yet!’ Cue panic! Ian threw everything in the car that was needed for the hotel , like my make up etc, and headed off at a rate of knots! Mum meanwhile had called her friend who was going on the bus and told her to get them to wait for him. No problem.

I wanted a peek outside to see my girls off, and was stunned my own car was there too waiting for me. There were a few neighbours out there, mum had given them plastic champagne flutes and a bottle of pink champagne and my dad had a little bag of silver coins in his sporran to do a scramble for the kids. Dad and I decided just to go as there was no point in hanging about doing nothing when the car was sitting out there! The car was lovely, a bit old spacious Daimler with a fur rug carpet. Dad got the driver, George, to roll down the window and threw out the scramble to the kids delight!

It was a good 20 minute run to the castle. I couldn’t tell you what Dad and I spoke about! We pulled up at the top of the drive and there were 3 tourists on motorbikes there. George pulled down the internal window and said ‘I’ve arranged 3 getaway motorbikes, last chance to get out now!’ we had a good laugh and the motorbikers kindly moved out of the way to let us in. We drove down the Queen Mother’s driveway where I saw the BMs and Mum getting some photos done at the Castle door. Dad and I got out of the car and we had some family photos done too, then it was time to get back in the cars and drive round to the visitor centre, where the ceremony would be held. I saw my piper (I’d already heard him from the castle door) and suddenly it was all very real. I looked at the visitor centre windows and as promised the curtains were closed, so nobody could see me getting out of the car etc, we got into the building and there was a lovely big mirror so that I could check how beautiful I looked before the big moment . I was pretty pleased ?

I heard my entrance music start and the little FGs headed up the aisle, followed by my wee BM, then my Best friend, then my Sister and finally it was just Dad and I left. He took my arm and I pulled it down so that it was at the right height this time, then waited a few seconds for the perfect moment in my music (I know, strange priorities I had but this meant a lot to me. We’re right music geeks, my Dad and I, and I’d chosen this Phil Collins number because my Dad’s a big fan and I wanted it to be a tune that meant a lot to me and my Dad (as well as my H and I) as he gave me away. We walked up the aisle and everyone was standing turned to look at us, and there at the top of the aisle was my Husband to be standing facing me with a big smile on his face. It wasn’t a smile of relief, as he says the idea of me not turning up never entered his head, it was just a simple smile of joy. I turned and kissed my Dad before he took his seat and then I decided to sneak a wee kiss from H as well before the ceremony began. Found out later we'd basically ran up the aisle and I can't even remember hearing the music once we got in!! I could tell you word for word what was in that ceremony now, because our Humanist celebrant has since sent us a complete transcript! If you’d asked me the next day I couldn’t have told you much, it went by so fast. The first thing that happened was that our mothers were called upon to light a candle for each of us, which would later be used for H and I to light a 3rd Central candle symbolising our union.

Next the rings were taken from the best man and passed around the congregation, with everyone being asked to put all their hopes for us into the rings so that we may have a blessed life together for all the years we wear them. The ceremony progressed with ‘our story’, a complete summary of how we met and the highlights of our relationship, then continued with the reading of the ‘5 reasons why I love you’ that we had each done and kept secret. We did our handfasting, literally tying the knot!!!

Finally the rings came back to us and my sister handed them to the celebrant (Kate), and we said our vows and placed the rings on each others fingers. We signed the register to Buddy Holly’s True Love Ways. The next step was to go and light the central candle I mentioned earlier, then Kate pronounced us man and wife. We went back up the aisle to applause and out into the lobby where we looked at each other and said ‘we did it!’ Castle staff handed us each a glass of champagne and we had a minute to ourselves (almost to ourselves as the cameramen had to get a few shots in!)

The wedding party soon followed out and all the guests left though a side door so that they were outside ready for us leaving the building. We were piped outside and had bubbles blown and confetti thrown.

The piper then piped us up the path to the castle where we all gathered to try and get a group shot but it was bitterly cold out in the open and I don’t think we quite pulled it off!!

We got another glass of champagne inside the castle, and all the guests came in and kissed us/shook hands on their way up to the drawing room for their drinks. Once they were all in H and I went off on a tour of the grounds getting our photos taken, the photographer and videographer were keeping a beady eye on the sky though and it looked like more snow was on its way! Lucky for us the big black cloud literally separated and went around us and missed us completely. We got all our photos done, then headed back to the castle. It was decided that all the group shots would be done indoors on the stairway as it was so chilly outside. Within an hour that snow came back to get us and all we could see outside was a blizzard!!! It was amazing. Someone was most definitely watching over us.

A 'small' selection of the photos we had done - see how beautiful the sky is, you wouldn't expect snow!! well Black clouds were apparently coming from the north and circling us. When H and I went into the castle gardens to get our own photos done the great wall around the garden blocked out all the wind completely (tis what it was built to do!) and it was roasting hot!! This while my gran was sat up in the Queen Mother's drawing room stoking the fire with peats!!! (much to everyone's amusement!)

Here she is, my gran, along with my mum, sister and I. Gran didn't truly believe she would make it to the wedding, when we got engaged and set a date her words were 'och I'll no be here by then' - we knew she would be! 88 years old next month ?

Next I knew we were coming to an end of our list of group shots, and I looked at the clock and it was 4.30! Time for the guests to start getting ready to go for the bus. All of the alcohol had been well and truly guzzled! Perfect timing and perfect drink quantity (apart from the fact H never got a dram of whisky haha)

H and I had planned to have champers in the car to drink heading back to town but we had forgotten and to be honest its just as well as I was so worried about getting a little tipsy. We didn’t have so much a romantic drive back to town as just a curious exchange of how our mornings had been! H told me that he had been so worried at nearly ten to 2 as nobody had turned up yet! The Bus had been due to arrive about half past 1 but it hadn’t!!! The driver (who was the company owner) was able to explain that one, the driver had been told to wait as one guest was running late but was on his way, they waited and waited but no sign. It was only when the driver got up and said ‘does anyone know who we are waiting on and how long they will be’ and only then did they realise it was my sisters fiancé and he had arrived in time to board along with the others so had been sitting there all along! That made us chuckle.

Back at the hotel BM2 had to take me to the loo and hold my dress. How glamourous!!

We had a receiving line and had more kisses and handshakes as everyone went through into the dining room, then the usher announced ‘Ladies and Gentlemen will you please be upstanding for the new Mr and Mrs Teven’!! our piper piped us into the room to lots of clapping. We took our seats and before long were finally hearing the speeches we’d all been waiting on. They did really well and I can’t wait to see our wedding video because I can’t remember what was said, but they made us happy, they made us sad, and they made us cringe, just like they should!

We were soon enjoying an amazing meal and as that was coming to an end we realised evening guests were arriving! We had overran quite a bit. Oops!! Kind of rushed the cutting of the cake, but it was a beautiful cake indeed and was a present from SIL’s parents as her Dad is a baker.

Finally the band got underway and we were called to do our first dance to Chasing Cars. It was a bit scary but it was lovely, it made it all seem very official, as thats kind of the last important part of proceedings I guess! I won’t bore you with the details of the dance, it was full of dancing and I went onto soft drinks for a while as I didn’t want to get too drunk. I was so relaxed and chilled I wasn’t even caring about topping up my make up but I didn’t do too badly, thats false lashes for you! No need to use eyeliner or mascara so you manage to avoid that panda look! Amazing.

It was after 4am before we got to our beds, that’s a sign of a good Scottish Wedding! We left for honeymoon the next day but everyone on the night says it was a great day and our parents are still raving about it now. It couldn’t have been a better wedding or a better day as far as we’re concerned.

And that brings to an end this wedding report, hope you enjoyed it as much as we enjoyed it.

Didn't even use as many posts as I expected, can't wait to see the rest of my photos and especially my video. When I get my trailer video I will post a link ?
