Veil/Tiara?

mrsmiller2b, 26 April, 2010 at 17:01 Posted on Planning 0 14

Hi Ladies,

Are you having a veil and/or tiara? I'm not sure whether to have one as I think it might take the attention away from my dress, which has quite a lot of detail on it (my dress is my profile pic) I was thinking of having a large clip/slide in my hair instead, would this be ok for the day or would that be best just for the evening?

Advice/opinions please?

Thanks xxx

That'd be ok for the day my lovely! These days people don't always do the traditional veil and tiara so if it's not for you, then it's not for you! It looks gorgeous as the model has it - she's got an elegant updo by looks of it

My dress had heaps of detail and I wore a tiara and veil and didn't think it was too much. I wore my veil a bit further down my head as I don't like veils on the top of heads).

I can't see the detail from your profile pic so do you have another picture and I can suggest some accessory ideas if you want?

I had a tiara/comb made, not as big as a normal tiara - just on a silver hair comb. I had a full cathedral length veil too, but which was fairly plain, just detail around the edges. When I took the veil off in the evening the comb was more visible - it's an extension of your dress really - that's what the lady said who designed my comb.

Hello, I have just bought a crystal fascinator as I am not sure what I am going to do with my hair so this will suit lots of styles. I tried on several tiaras, but this was the best for me Smiley laugh Jx

    Hi

Are you able to post a link to your dress, or a post a bigger picture. It's difficult to see what the detail of your dress is. I personally think if you find the right veil it'd be fine; but it's your choice. Not everyone has a veil, so don't feel "forced" into it because it's tradition.

And lots of brides have side combs/bands for their hair all day. (https://www.katievaledesigns.com/HappyClients.html) the very bottom bride has a band with a sweeping side design. And there is a comb on there too that a Hitcher had.

There are lots of choices for you.

    Hope this helps.

    Katie

Wow Purrfect Gems, you look lovely, my dress doesn't have that much detail on it. Half of me doesn't want a veil but the other half is worried I'll regret not having one, I'm so confused?!?

I've attached the link for my dress, thank you for all your advice/help xxx

Have you thought about having a mini veil, then it won't dominate your dress? I have one here – it might give you an idea to build on.

    Hi,

Thanks, my dress was mega sparkly!

Whether you wear a veil is really a personal choice but I don't think it would look too much with your dress. I knew I wanted to wear a veil and never considered otherwise but if you aren't sure why don't you try some on with your dress.

As for accessories I'd keep your necklace really simple if you want one and maybe a small graduated tiara depending on your hairstyle. If you wanted a comb that would go just as well. If you have an idea of how you are having your hair I'd be happy to discuss some ideas if you wanted to email me ******@**************.**.**.

Here are some ideas for you:

These are really popular tiaras . The double band is perfect if you don't want a traditional tiara and decide against a comb. Here is one of my customers wearing it .

    .

This was made for a hitcher who wanted sweeping strands going across and a little bit of detail to the side and this can be made on a comb if you wanted to have it pushed into the side of the hairstyle.

Everything can be made with crystals, pearls or diamontes so if you like something but don't want it as sparkly then crystals can be replaced with pearls without any extra charge.

Sorry for so many pictures but I just wanted to suggest some ideas. I think if you wear a side design then you'd maybe be best without a veil but I have seen people wear both very well.

    Thanks

    Lynsey x

You dress is lovely. Really beautiful. If you are worried about missing out, then next time you are going for a dress fitting, try a few different one's on. If you are still unsure, then I'd say "no". You need to be completely comfortable in what you are wearing!

What about a birdcage veil? or a plain shoulder length one? you could have one of those side tiara-hairbands, with or without the veil. something like ??? i think the side-tiara-hairband may blend the bling!

Thanks for all your ideas ladies, you've all been really helpful. The more I think about it the more I think I won't have a veil, I may have a tiara though.

I'm not sure how I'm going to have my hair on the day as I'm waiting to see how long I can grow it over the next few months, my initial thought is to have it pulled to one side and over my shoulder in curls but I don't know whether it'll be long enough (or if the curls will hold as my hair is quite thick) only time will tell x

I was exactly the same when I got married, I really wasn't sure what to do. My dress was also quite detailed. I did buy a veil but didnt end up wearing it, on the day I wasn't 100% sure. So I just wore a dainty tiara.

If you need any further hair accessory ideas, take a little look on my website below!

I’ve pasted a pic below from my Real Brides page of a bride wearing her hair in the way you describe with a tiara (I made her jewellery not the tiara). If you think you need a little more length you could use clip in extensions (you can get some really realistic ones, my sister uses them sometimes), which I know this bride did.

A tiara which works really well with a number of hair styles if you are not sure what you will go for is “Glamour Puss”. It is really versatile (can be worn as a band or a tiara) and, I think, has the wow factor without being too OTT.

A similar style to Glamour Puss is "Natalie" which uses only freshwater pearls

If you wore your hair down and pulled to the side a little comb would work well such as “Sparkler” or “Glamour Puss”. The spokes on Sparkler could even be extended to go across the front of your hair style.

Lots more ideas can be found on my website www.louloubelle.co.uk or please drop me an email and I’d be happy to discuss adapting an existing design for you or designing something bespoke.

I didn’t wear a veil on my wedding day, just a comb http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=1172592&l=da225cdaac&id=687304387

Please let me know if I can help at all - ****@***********.**.**
