Videographer, are you having or had one?

millymolly83, 2 October, 2009 at 14:33 Posted on Planning 0 12

Hello,

Me and H2b are discussing whether to have a videographer or not.

Are you having one? Or had one?

What were your reasons for having one, not having one?

We were going to ask a family member to do ours as they've done them before. We didn't wan't the total professional thing but just something to remember the day.

We are having one, it was something we wanted but had discounted because of the cost but we did manage to find one at a reasonable price and OHs dad has offered to pay. Otherwise we just wouldn't have had the budget.

I'm not sure yet, I think we will leave it for a while to see how much money we have spare sooner towards the date. If we have some spare we might try and find someone but if we can't because we've left it too late it won't be that much of a loss tbh.

We have decided to have one, I want to have as many memories of our day as possible lol. Also think when we have kids and stuff it will be really nice to show them.

Found a really good one after searching for ages and before I even got the sample dvd after watching the clips on their website I knew that we would book them.

Also got a really good deal as they had a special promotion. They are called premier wedding videos.

We decided against it - although a few people have said "oh you really should get it videoed" neither of us could see ourselves settling down to watch our own wedding after the event and hundreds of pounds seemed like a lot of money for a dvd we'd dust off maybe once every few years. I absolutely adore looking at wedding photos (even if it's people I've never met in my life) but I'm not a fan of sitting watching other people's videos so I guess that influenced where the "ography" budget was spent as well.

Fully appreciate that there are plenty of people who will watch their wedding vids over and over and treasure them for life, it's just not something we felt that strongly about. It's got to be an individual choice though as to whether you see yourself watching it enough to justify the cost and if it is then go for it!

We have gone for one but t be honest i hate being on camera so im hoping that the thrill of the day will make me forget the face that there are 2 cameras pointing at me all day, good memories and to show the children when we have some x

We had one and I absolutely love my dvd. It didn't cost the earth, isn't the best probably but it gives us everything we wanted. We never noticed the camera once and were really worried about how the guy would have anything worth while because we didn't see him but a good person won't need to be in your face.

I treasure seeing how my H was before the ceremony so much, a moment obviously I wouldn't have been able to see otherwise. The nerves he displayed, him welcoming guests, even seeing my own nerves again was worth far more than we spent.

I think that this is an important observation, both the videography and photography can fill in missing parts of the day.

I am so glad we had one. It captured the best moments and things i would never have seen. One of my favourite scenes of me looking so nervous was also captured. I still laugh when i see it now (and have the proof when H says he didn't cry ?).

There was a thread on here once where people posted their wedding videos that i would recommend you looked for if the search function worked on this site! Might help make your mind up.

    Nope! Not having one.

I can't at all see me sitting down to watch it. Great photos can capture just as much as a video and it's so much easier to flick through a few photos or display them in rooms/onn walls, etc.

    Hi,

I just wanted to say that great photos can't always capture everything. I have fab photography but still images can't always capture the emotion which is displayed within 5 secs or even a second. I liked seeing our whole first dance again and I do love the photography from the first dance but the dvd shows all the little things, from a look to a kiss, my H trying to lift me up and tickle me to make me relax.

I had some very important friends who couldn't make the wedding but I liked being able to show them the dvd.

You can hear the vows again, speeches etc etc. I could go on forever but just wanted to say that for me the dvd and photography give totally different aspects from our day. Both as equally important but in different ways.

A wedding film doesnt have to be something you only dust off every few years. The same applies for your photos. Done right they can remind you of the happiest day of your life and therefore be something you just keep on viewing.

    Hi,

Are you having a photographer? And thinking about a videographer aswell?

You'll probably find they are more expensive than photographers, however, I have my heart set on a videographer at my wedding (whenever it might be!) because, you can truly capture the moment, AND the atmosphere.

Friends and family can leave you messages that you will get to see after the wedding/honeymoon, and a videographer captures a lot of the wedding that you will actually miss.

Yes, the price might be a fair bit more, but you don't have to go over the top. I just think that a video of anyone special day is perfect.

Also, if you are worried about the price, and you have a "gift" list for yourself and groom, you could always ask family /friends to put money together to get one for you as a present?
