Videographer vote please

Jlo84, 25 July, 2011 at 21:16 Posted on Planning 0 33

Can any OM's or anyone planning a wedding please tell me about Videographers. I have started to think that I might really regret not having one. Has anyone not had one and regretted it or vice versa? It does just seem like another expense but looking at what we are spending I would rather not have any regrets. Thanks Jenna x

For many, its simply a cost v benefit issue.

A good videographer will cost around £1000 for the day - it may seem a lot for one day's work but it's all the hours of 'post production' editing and faffing around to produce the end product that takes the time.

If we had to pay regular prices there's no way we'd have had one, but as someone from the media department where I work has offered, using professional equipment (and they make our promotional videos) then the cost is basically two seats at the wedding breakfast, I have video editing software and skills (but can't be on a camera, of course, on the day) so they are going to give me the hours of footage which I'm then going to turn into a dvd to send to everyone that came, plus others that aren't coming that have expressed interest. They'll also be uploaded to Youtube as well so overseas friends can enjoy them albeit in lower resolution.

There are bound to be things, like emotion in the ceremony, laughter in the speeches, tender glances too fast for the photographer to capture, that a video will get but a still won't.

I think if your budget can stretch to include one then it's great to have, but if you can't then it isn't the end of the world not to have one.

I had never considered one when I started planning until another hitcher posted something the other day about them and now I really want one!! Iv had a look on internet and they are quite expensive especially when you have a budget you are working with. Im going to have to have look at my finances later on but at the moment looks like a no☹️

I never ever wanted a video.

But then, I realised how much I would miss of the day, and how quick it would go, and while I will have an awesome album, I won't hear what is said or see the shots unfolding, or the silly bits that didn't make the chop in the album.

I then saw a 5min preview of someones wedding on an iphone, and the woman told me she often watched her own when she felt down or was having a bad day. Then it became essential for me and OH very soon agreed too.

So we did a complete U turn, from despising them, thinking of nothing worse than having one, to being despserate to negoitiate the right price for one.

My way of seeing it is - if you can afford it, you should. If you hate it, then it sits in the box. If you don't, and you realise afterwards that you miss it - it can't be redone.

If you really need convincing put a call out for MrsC / Lynsey and ask to see their videos.

I haven't booked one, not so much because of the added cost, rather I find them a bit naff (the ones I have seen anyway) where they are set to music and all in soft focus! I say that, though, it would probably be a bit different if I was watching my own day...I don't know. As a compromise I think I am going to get my brother to video the ceremony as he will be 20 and would like a practical job to do. We are also having a photo booth with a video option so we will get video messages as well as a photograph guest book.

    Think my ears were burning!!!

    https://whitedressfilms.co.uk/

The day goes past so fast and there are things that cannot be caught on camera, no matter how amazing your photographer... your husbands voice in the church, your cousins dirty laugh during the speeches, the music...

    I say do it...

A videographer was on the must have list for us. As someone else mentioned, there will always bits that you dont get to see/miss. I like the idea of sitting down on our anniversary and watching it again.

That video is amazing. Can I be cheeky and ask if you went with quite an expensive one (£1,000+) as I have seen some for £400, £800 or £1,000+

I'm going to ask my brother to record some key bits. Don't want to not have the speeches in particular!

Another option is to get on to a local art college - there would probably be some film making students who would be have to do it cheap enough and be able to put it on their cv.

    Hello!

We had not budgeted for a videographer, but after speaking to a few friends those that had one loved it and those that hadn't regretted it! We did some research and found this company https://thefxworks.co.uk/ . It happend that a friend used them to, so we borrowed their wedding DVD to see if there was any difference to the videos on web site to a 'real' wedding!! And there was none!! It was beautiful and made me cry!!

So the long and short of it is that we have gone for it!!

Thanks Dan. I have had a look but it is over my budget. Unfortunately I did find a videographer at a great price with great reviews but he is already booked :-(

Our budget can't stretch to a pro VOG, but we are hoping to invest in a decent HD video camera which will be entrusted to family members and friends throughout the day (could be interesting hehe). And this way we'll get the keep the camera to use on honeymoon and as many years as it lasts!

I've just replied to another post about videographers on here and I noticed eapfilms have mentioned their services on here too, which is funny as I just recommended them! I think their quality of work is absolutely stunning and for the price you're getting is more than reasonable and it's not just me that recommends them, I've heard nothing but praise from others too. I think you would regret not having a professional videographer, these videos that your "uncle" will film are never that decent and I believe for the one special day in your life, you should have something to treasure looking back on, not a shaky montage of your day capturing the not so glamourous parts - but that's just my opinion!

You're actually breaking forum rules by doing this as you are not a listed supplier.

Hiya I'm not sure this will help you in anyway. But we really wanted a videographer mostly to do the vows and speeches the day goes so fast I knew I wouldnt remember everything about the speeches. But we could not afford one they are so expensive. Luckily one of my mums friends offered to video it for us. I have to say it was fantastic. She leant the camera to my mum the evening before so she could get some footage of us getting ready. I have watched it so many times now (I'm very sad!).

Maybe a friend could do it for you or you could buy a camera and ask a friend to do it (cheaper toi buy a camera than hire a videographer if oyu dont have th ebudget for it)

This is the username I use on any forum - keeps things simple my end. If my username is causing problems then a moderator may remove my account - but a username is just that.

Well the business name isn't eapfilms. Does this still count? Either way I've now registered myself on here as a supplier so I guess I'm now allowed to promote ones services??

When I came to register I had to create a new username - eapfilms_official is what I used, but I can't seem to log in as that...Any advice?

Oh wait, I've just realised its come under my name now.

    Righto.
