Videographers..how much?

Pinky6, 5 October, 2011 at 16:34 Posted on Planning 0 15

What is the average price for a videographer? How much are you ladies paying for one and how long will that be for?

It's not something we budgeted for and I still haven't convinced OH about it yet but I really want one!!!

Same here Pinky, my OH is not convinced so it its on 'reserve' list of things to book next year if we have enough money!

I have had quotes from £400 up to £1,200 from the arrival at church to the first dance. The one for £400 didnt look to good though!

    xx

I'm also in the same position. Although OH has gone as far as to say he really doesn't want one as couldn't think of anything worse than being filmed.

I really want one but not entirely sure how I'm going to win this one. Bummer.

The ones I would be prepared to book based on their film reels have been about £1000 and upwards. I'm hoping, if by some miracle I manage to convince OH, that we might be able to get a bit of an out of season discount (March).

Mine is £595. This 'thinking videographers are a waste of money' thing always surprises me! Flowers die, favours are a waste of money, invites get lost, but a video of all your guests and your wedding is forever.

I had the same issue I really wanted one but our budget wouldnt allow it, and my OH was dead against it, he said it would feel to imposing. We paid alt of money for our tog and so in the end decided against, we only got our photos back last week from the photographer and I was blown away with how much they actually tell a story, I think far better than a video could have. I am glad I saved my money. It really depends on what you want though, pictures might not be enough for you.

We have decided to get a camcorder and put in it in tripod for the ceremony then get my little brother to do the speeches etc. HOWEVER having seen some of the footage on here for the professional ones I am swaying.

Ours was videoed by friends/work colleagues albeit with professional standard equipment. I'm editing the footage myself and making the DVD. Although the end result is not going to be as good as the £1000+ packages, realistically how often are you likely to watch it anyway? Just like wedding photo albums, yes it's a memory but I can't see us sitting down and looking at them every weekend once we've shown it round the family and close friends.

You'd be surprised what great results you can get out of basic equipment these days with standard stuff on a home PC.

AJ is right about how many times you'll watch it, and without cringing lol! Mind you saying that I was at my Auntys last weekend, and she got her wedding dvd out from 25 years ago, I was a flowergirl and I was only 6, I thought it was amazing! But I asked her how many times she's seen it and she said she could count on one hand, she only played it because I pestered her. If you have the money go for it, if you dont I dont think you'll regret it.

I think that's a good point. At least with pictures you can get them blown up or have them on show but I'm not really sure how many times I will actually sit down and watch a video I have paid a lot of money for. I have had a quote for about £895 but that's for the whole day. I think I might just get a family member to film the actually ceremony and the speeches as these are the main things I would want recording and save myself some money.

Failing that, if I still really want one in a few months I might do what some other ladies have suggested and try book one last minute for a bit cheaper. Thanks everyone for your advice guys, it has really helped x

COMPLETELY agree with HayleyMay, it always amazes me that people will pay £1000 on flowers that die two days later or £300 on favours that get left on the tables. Yet they won't pay for something that you can keep forever, and your future Children, Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren can watch it.

From my perspective...although allow me to be a tad biased....I believe that the photography and videography is in reality a reflection of the day and also, more importantly, an investment in the future. What is gathered, either by stills or by movie with sound, is people that were at your wedding....Sounds obvious, although as time goes by and those at your wedding are "no longer with us", those memories become more pertinant....Grandmother x's laugh, a best friends smile.......all become a snapshot in history of your lifetime, and specifically a record of your wedding day.

What seems unimportant now, has the potential to become sadly missed years later. IMHO photography and videography of your wedding day gains in value as years pass.

(ok , I am a tog supporting vids, although believe that both offer alternative reflections on your wedding day)

Whatever it takes, get as many memories of the day. Do be aware though that most video cameras will not record the sound of the vows well.

I didn't origanally want a videographer but my h2b did so we have booked one, looked online and got one for just under £900 with footage up to 9:45pm, that was important to me because of our fireworks, I think it will be lovely to look back on, I still look at my sisters once a yearish with teary eyes lol

I would tend to agree with that. When I read out Grandad's bit during my speech I was thinking how lovely it would have been to have actually recorded him saying it a few years ago when I had the opportunity - but obviously that's long since passed (as has he) so the sound is certainly something that does bring it to life - in some ways, poor videoing can have more 'life' in it than the best photos, if you know what I mean.
