Hey, hope everybody enjoyed the festive period, I did with three engagement announcements and as many Christmas dinners! The ‘highlights’ included being threatened twice by my future mother in law that she’ll remove my ability to have children if I hurt her daughter, and a friend cornering me at our engagement party on New Years Eve and asking me why her boyfriend of 6 years hadn’t proposed. Said friend is now not speaking to either of us because I told her to ask her boyfriend how he felt about marriage (because really I do not have special powers to convince other people to get married). I thought it was logical advice but obviously not. Everyone else was great though, my fiancée got to show off her ring and I tried not to fall over under the weight of many simultaneous hugs. I also found out that our wedding will be the first in my fiancée’s family since she was 4 and her grandparents are probably more excited about it than anyone.
Yesterday was the big day though, my brothers are over from Canada with their families and we had Christmas dinner #3 at my parents’ house. The date of the wedding was always going to depend on when my brothers could afford to come over to England again (a wedding in Canada was always out of the question because most of my fiancée’s family either can’t or won’t fly) and when we announced our engagement to them and asked whether 2012 or 2013 would be better my dad said that we should have the wedding when we want and he will make sure that all of my Canadian family will get there.
So we’re going with summer 2012. Roughly 18 months to plan a wedding for 150 people coming from 3 different continents. So far we have decided on two best men (my brothers, as we did the same two best men thing at their weddings) and lots of chocolate so there’s so much to do, I hope we can pull it off.
