I bought mine online ... Kitty and Dulcie.

I went to one shop to try dresses on (found them online) and didn't find anything I liked. Found the link to Kitty and Dulcie on here and found the dress of my dreams!! x

Same as Tracy, sort of. First I looked for stockists of the dresses I thought I'd like. Found one, realised the dresses were heavier than I wanted, but tried others on. Went to 2 other shops in that town while I was there. Next, looked in 3 shops where I lived, and had appt for one near my work, and popped in on another in that town, all on same day. Found a dress I liked in the shop near my work, so bought that one.

First looked on the internet till I found a designer that I really liked then searched for shops nearby that stocked that designers dresses. Eventually had a fitting at Mia Sposa in York and bought my all time favourite dress from there.

Me and my mum went away for a weekend and unfortunately I found my dress! Over an hour away from my house which is going to make fittings fun! I phoned the manufacterur and that was the only shop with that dress in!

I went to my two nearest bridal shops at first, and although I didn't find "my" dress I did find which designers I preferred from those trips. I then picked a third shop based on which designers they stocked, and found the dress I thought I was going to buy. I ended up ordering my perfect dress from a shop I happened to wander into in a town even further from home, though! Just to be awkward ?

I've ordered mine from a bridal shop about 20 minutes away, it came highly recommended by some people on here actually! I went in just to try a few things out and get some ideas, but absolutely fell in love with my dress and went back later that afternoon to order it. I didn't feel like I needed to look anywhere else! ?

Just a thought for those ladies who have bought a gown from a supplier a long way from home, could the bridal boutique you bought it from not let you take the gown so you could get it altered closer to the date at a seamstress local to where you live? By the time you have driven several times to the boutique you are going to be running up a fairly hefty fuel bill!

I searched for decent shops within an hour of gatwick where I need to fly into and found one huge one that stocks a whole range of designers which is where I got my dress from and a small boutique one in Richmond. I then popped into one next door to that one in Richmond on the off chance but none of them were the type of thing I wanted. I'm quite glad I got it from the first shop now as it's right near heathrow where we will fly into for the wedding so can just stop by and pick it up!

I'm not wired right when it comes to weddings. I strongly dislike all the traditional wedding stuff brides are supposed to gush over. Its not just the dress, its the cake, the flowers etc.

For my first wedding, I went into a bridal shop, and didn't try any dresses on. Told the owner I wanted something non white, non ivory, she showed me a dress, and I ordered it before I even tried it on.

I had a limited choice as not many shops stocked the designer I wanted. One was local, one was an hours drive away and one was 3+ hours train away (Manchester-South London). I ended up buying from the final shop and it meant a few journeys up and down for fittings and collection.

I had already had 2 shopping trips so I knew roughly what I liked and didnt like. I was always toying with the idea of fishtail after realising that actually it didnt make me look like a whale so the day after my shopping trip I went on the internet and browsed some designers websites. After another dress shopping trip to try on some more dresses I kept going back to one of the Mori Lee dresses I had found the day before.

I had a feeling it might be "the one" so the following morning I rang around as many dress shops as I needed to in order to find somebody who had it in stock. Luckily I didnt have to travel too far, I live near Derby, found the dress in Hinckley which is about an hour away. I could have ordered the dress in to a shop more local but I decided to stick with it as the shop seemed to know what they were doing, had my measurements and it made sense.

I wont be having hundreds of fittings so it doesnt bother me too much.

I bought mine at a shop called Shropshire Country Brides just over 100 miles away from where I live in Cardiff. About a 5 hr round trip for fittings.

They have a stunning range of dresses and they are absolutely lovely, helpful and friendly. Their seemstress Jennie & her daughter Lauren are fantastic too Smiley surprise)

I searched for prefered dresses online fell in love with essense of australia d1199! went to a bridal shop in Nottingham city centre to try it on and didnt like the pushy sales attitude the shop had, so i decided to search for another retailer and found one in chesterfield called precious bridal rooms... Its is run by two sisters who are so helpful and very down to earth and really helped with the whole dress picking experience!!! Dress is now on order and should be here within the next 2 months!! EEEKkkkkk Smiley smile xxx

I bought mine from a local bridal shop (well, I don't actually live in the UK, but it's local to where I grew up and to where my parents still live) It didn't actually stock any of the designers that I thought I was interested in but several people said to me that it was a good boutique and worth checking out and I'm very glad I did.

Hypnopoison, my sister got her dress from there (parents are a bit closer that Cardiff though!). I went along and thought they were lovely and didn't mind me lughing at some of the dresses. Some of the other brides were way too serious, didn't look like they were having much fun though!!

Was your seamstress the one in Shrewsbury they reccommend? She did a great job (at an amazing pice) and was tellling my sis about how far some of her brides travel for her alterations

    Hi

Did you find this company easy to deal with and did you need alterations? I noticed that unlike other internet sites you just choose a size rather than measurements.

My daughter is very tempted as she is on a budget.

I went to Shropshire County Brides and they were fab!!! Didn't get mine from there but do need details of a good, reasonably priced seamstress. If you can recommend one that would be fab. I'm based in Shropshire so after someone nearby. I actually got mine from a shop called The Bridal Barn on ebay - was a lady in Staffordshire who buys ex-sample Maggie Soretto dresses and sells them really reasonably, like under £400! She was lovely, you go to her house to try on but at such a good price, I really wasn't fussed at all.
