Wedding Transport...?

GeordieBarbie, 8 December, 2009 at 17:11 Posted on Planning 0 17

What's everyone having as their wedding cars?

D is having his landrover (which was bought as a compelte wreck a year ago and is only just fit enough to have it's MOT tomorrow!!) and I am going to have our mates landrover - which is only slightly better than D's landrover at the mo!!

Since he's just announed they're baby is due 2 weeks before the wedding I'm already thinking of backup plans should he not have it fixed in time (though he seems happy that he will have it done). I was thinking of a black taxi but my Mam is concerned that I won't arrive in a car with ribbons on (though i'm sure the taxi driver will attach some if I asked nicely ?). I can't actually think of any other plans...

So, anyone else having anything unusual?

My dad drove me himself in his pride and joy, his renault gordini:

    and me arriving in it:

also featured in december 2009's edition of performance french cars... dad knows the editor ? ?

it was absolutely brilliant fun, really noisy, but loads of people honked and waved at us, we both had a great time! we didn't really have the traditional father/daughter heart to heart as neither of us could hear what the other was saying! but we did giggle loads on the way.

I reeeeeaaally wanted a Karma Kab or a 1950s New York taxi but eventually reasoned that as we're getting married and having the reception in the same venue I should go for a cheaper option!

Getting a local private hire company to take us in a new Mercedes S class with ribbons and bubbly included (poss should avoid this as I'll be slurring when I say "Yesh, I weeeelll") and it's one fifth of the price a vintage or original car would have cost.

Because I'm saving on transport I'm letting myself splurge on my shoes and accessories - any excuse!! x

Sorry to jump in this thread but I wanted to ask- does anyone know the rough price of hiring a wedding car. I know it depends on the journey but what did other people pay?

    Thanks

I do love old vehicles. I also came across a company that supplies old buses in the London and North home counties that is worth looking at for those interested...timebus on my webpage links is really worth considering(if you need this sort of thing) http://www.eternaldreams.co.uk/index_files/Links.htm

Well - we're getting one step closer to having a landrover at our wedding - it's MOT day today!!

Just over a year ago, it was pretty much a knackered old empty shell of a landrover that had to be put on the back of the trailer by a fork lift truck to bring it home and today it's driving to it's MOT! I'm told it probably won't pass but here's hoping!!

errrrm not really. dad had been fine tuning his car for about 3 weeks beforehand, so we thought we'd be OK getting there. saying that, we were followed by all the bridesmaids, my mum and aunt in a nice 13 seater vw cab, and my uncle was in his car behind them, so we would have got there somehow. we also left really early in case there was traffic or anything, and in the end, we were 15 minutes early, so we pulled into brands hatch racing circuit for 10 mins to pass the time. dad and i were tempted to take the gordini around the circuit for a couple of laps!

I'm having a badsworth laundelette to take me to the church (costing £285). hopefully we're having an old tractor n some sort of trailer to take us to the church (H2B is really into tractors!) if i can find a suitable one but it's a surprise for him.

My back up plan is if its raining then we'll go in the car n just have the tractor to have photos with. If we're going on the tractor then grandparents n BM are going in the car.
