Weight loss rant

darkivy, 8 April, 2010 at 08:21 Posted on Beauty & Wellbeing 0 12

Have just weighed myself and am less than happy so thought I would have a little rant!!

Getting married in October, would like to just lose half a stone or so to make dress fit perfectly. I do quite a lot of exercise anyway but diet is pretty poor...anyway for last few weeks I have been eating salads, vegetables, yoghurt, fish etc and have cut right back on the sugar, I don't drink sugary drinks or eat hardly any takeaways and do aerobics, circuit training and boxing every week...just weighed myself this morning and I have put on a pound! Not much I know but I have been really good and thought I might have lost a bit, but noooo my weight is virtually the same (in fact heavier!) than when I eat crisps for breakfast!! Any advice or similar stories??! Gaaah!

Hi there. There's loads of reasons you could be weighing heavier than you think you should.

If you've eaten really well and kept up the same amount of exercise it could mean that as well as burning off the fat you've eaten you've converted some of it into muscle too. Muscle weighs more than fat so that could bump up the weight reading.

If it's your time of the month soon that frequently makes me heavier - by anything up to about 4 pounds. As soon as that's out the way the weight just disappears again.

Have you weighed yourself at the same time of day as usual? Your weight fluctuates by +/- 2lbs throughout the course of a normal day, I find I'm heavier at night than I am in the morning but others vary.

Also consider your, ahem, digestive cycle. Without meaning to be too gross about it if you've not "been" for a couple of days you'll have two days worth of food sitting in your body adding dead weight.

Keep at it - the weight will shift. Also, don't just concentrate on weight, take measurements of Waist, Upper arm, forarm, bust, hips, thighs and calfs. Usually if you're exercising enough but don't lose wieght you'll see a fairly dramatic inch-loss.

    Good luck!

I know exactly what your going through! I've improved my exercise regime, I'm watching what I eat and was on cloud nine when I weighed myself and had lost 5lb I couldn't believe it I was so pleased with myself though I did prepare myself to put on 1lb or 2 the next week though I really tried to lose again but what do you know I put all 5lb back on then I put on a 1lb every week after that. So I got my head together really tried hard, tried again with weight watchers the first week I put on 1lb but I thought I'll keep going the next week I'd managed to lose 4lb again over the moon thought I'd cracked it silly me! My partners nan then died it was a very emotional 2 weeks but I finally plucked up the courage to weigh myself again and I've put it all back on and now I'm struggling to get back on track. I can't help but think I'm just not destined to lose weight.

I'm also getting married in October and am looking to lose a stone to fit into my dress.

Hi! Glad I am not alone, your story sounds very similar to mine! A helpful friend has told me that my body is 'happy' at my current weight and will stay as it is (great!). Thinking I might just be too ambitious but am annoyed cos about 4 years ago I went on a low calorie diet without being too excessive, and I lost a stone in weeks, with minimal effort. I was 25 then and am 29 now so am thinking metabolism might have just given up! What kind of things are you eating? I have cut out bread completely in favour of salads, always eat breakfast, no snacking in the evening, all the things you are told to do. Most upset when I read stories of how someone just cut down on food and suddenly dropped 2 dress sizes! Why can't !?!! Anyway think am going to buy a bigger dress!

Sorry to hear that its still not going well. I know what you mean about your body's 'happy weight'. I was like this for awhile & whether I ate lots or not much my weight seemed to stay the same. I've now being doing the Cambridge diet for the last 3 weeks as a kick start to healthy eating. It hasn't been as hard as I'd suspected but have had some not great days. I have 3 shakes or soups & a tiny meal along with drinking 2 1/4 l of water. My scales say I haven't lost very much but at my weigh in I've lost 1/2 stone in 2 weeks & am due to weighed later today.

I'm not saying that the same may be true of you but maybe its your scales?

Is it the weight you want to lose or be more toned?

Whatever happens don't let it get you down. You will look beautiful on your wedding day x

    Thanks for your replies

Maybe there is some truth in the happy weight thing...I can eat salad every day or gorge on pizza and I stay exactly the same! Which I guess is good in that I don't get any bigger but I can't shift a pound either so maybe this is just how I am meant to be.

I would like to think my scales are wrong ? but I don't think so, and they are the same ones I used when I lost weight before.

I am a size 12 which I know isn't huge, I would like to be more toned really and lose some round the middle cos that's where it all goes, would like a more defined waist!

Blackkat - half a stone sounds great - well done!

I'm all for my body being happy with its weight (though would like to lose and keep off a few lbs). But if I don't lose the weight then I'm going to have to buy a new dress which in theory isn't so bad as I got my current dress free and have my eye on a completely different dress. It will just be dissappointing to have to put dress back into the budget but I suppose I could sell this one and put the money towards the new one.

Well done Blackkat glad to see your doing so well, I don't have the heart to change my ticker its too depressing to see i've put on again.

It's a pity that we can't agree with our body about what the happy weight should be...its almost as if it wants to be fed chocolate rather than salad...! I am in a similar position Littlelady, I have a dress (which I didn't get free but got a really good price on), and I can't do it up! Am thinking either will have to sell it on, or get it massacred to make it fit. Have just bought a larger dress as plan B as really don't think I will shift the weight!

DarkIvy, why don't you concentrate on toning your stomach muscles, doing daily sit ups or crunches & try & eat healthy but don't concentrate on losing weight.

& don't lose heart little lady (I don't update my additions to my ticker, just wait for it to come off again!!) you just need to keep with it. I only lost 1lb this week but its maintaining it thats hard.

    Good luck x x

    Thanks Blackkat.

I do aerobics, circuit training and boxing 3 times a week which involves a lot of sit ups, have been doing that for the last 2 years, seems to have little effect!!

Oh well back to my salad.....

It sounds like you are at a good weight. You're doing everything right including exercising and eating a healthy diet. You could do some more cardio and cut the calories or servings a little to see if that helps. What is your BMI or what is your body fat percentage? It sounds like you are at the right weight or close to it. As you get closer to your perfect weight, it becomes much more difficult to lose those last few pounds.

    Thanks Vega

I do quite a lot of exercise, while I will never pretend my diet is perfect it is certainly better than it was!

Just calculated my BMI and it came out at about 22, does that sound ok? I am 5 ft 6 and about 10 stone. Don't want to lose much, I am a classic 'apple' shape, it all goes round the middle so just want to shift that really!

I think you have tried all possible things and didn't get the desired results...Even I was in the same position some days before..

Have you tried any diet supplements before?

If no then try Hoodia diet supplements . These are really natural and safe way to lose weight..As I told you I was in the same situation that time I used Hoodia diet supplements and now I don't believe seeing myself in the mirror- Is this same me?

You should give a try to it ones..

It definitely will satisfy your weight loss goals..

    So waiting for your reply..
