Weird Facebook connections

pandorasbox, 31 March, 2012 at 21:35 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 9

I just discovered an ex-shagee/sort of friend from college has got married today (didn't even realise he was engaged!) and I know this because... an old colleague of mine, who works in London, has tagged himself and my college friend on a photo of a bride and groom cake topper - and the location is our local Town Hall. But 3 hours ago the guy was 'near London'. I don't get it. I just cannot get my head around how this guy knows my college friend, and knows him well enough to tag himelf in what is clearly wedding photos. It is so weird and really annoying that obviously they are all busy partying at the reception and not replied to my message asking!

Edit - one of the guys replied asking how they knew each other with 'dunno'. Bloody great. So he does't know how they know each other but still decides to tag himself in their wedding photos? Weirdo.

Anyone else ever noticed any weird 'worlds unexpectedly colliding' type things on fb?

No way would I have thouhgt they were friends in RL - they live in diferent towns, one was getting married, one very anti-weddings. Only picked up because of unusual name. Tiny little world!

A girl I was close to in high school (but not so much now) was in a relationship with a guy who knows my cousin. I spotted this as he posted a birthday message on her wall and I recognised the name. No idea how they know each other!

Also a Hitcher, FutureMrsC and I have a mutual friend IRL which we discovered when I posted the public Facebook link to my honeymoon album.

They do say it's a small world!

Oh I had the WEIRDEST one of these recently. My OH's daughter has a new boyfriend and despite not living in the same town/city (in fact 200 miles apart) his dad shared a room with my dad in the 70's when they worked at the same hotel. I was so blown away by this especially as my dad passed 10 years ago in difficult circumstances so to hear these great stories from that time was so emotional and amazing!

That 7 degrees of separation thang is so true!

So true about the 7 degrees of seperation, in fact with linkedin you can actually see how you are connected to people you'd never dream you would be!

    Such a small world.

An old tenant who left without paying all his rent and leaving our flat in a state had an unusual name so I searched on Facebook to see of we could find him. I did and he was a Facebook friend of my ex. Turns out he used to be my ex's boss. He'd moved to Minsk so never got to chase him down.

One of my bridesmaids is from Canada and a few years ago we went on holiday there with her and her OH. We met her friends and had a lovely time. A wee while later I saw one of the friends commenting on a status from this guy I used to go to school with in a wee village in the Highlands! turns out that she met him in Edinburgh while she was training to be a teacher and they became friends ?

I had been chatting to a guy on a dating site, we added each other on facebook, only to see that my brother was a mutual friend! Argh - delete!!

Also I met a guy out in a bar, who I'd been texting/chatting with, with intention of meeting for a date. He added me on FB, we had a mutual friend who was a friend of my family - who then proceeded to message me to stay away from said bloke as he'd been around the block!
