What are you doing for your wedding postbox?

hazyclaire, 19 August, 2012 at 21:09 Posted on Planning 0 48

I like the idea of the Royal Mail ones, but £30 minimum to hire and needing to pick it up and drop it off is putting me off a bit...

I'm gonna try to make my own one...old packing box with a whole cut in and then I'm getting the kids in my Year 1 class to draw pictures of me and H2B on nice pre-cut white card and then I will cover the box in them. A talking point for guests as they post their cards and cheap ?

Could you do something similar with making it yourself?

We are hiring one of those Royal Mail ones, a lady has a couple a few villages away from us so not too far to drive.

I did consider decorating one of those cardboard ones but I could not get the Royal Mail ones out of my head - ours is painted white.

We are hiring a Royal Mail one that's painted white, too. Got it as part of a package, so we get a vintage-y sweetie cart with all sweets supplied, large free standing outdoor lanterns and table runners for 250 including pick up and delivery and set up.

H2B is quite creative so he's talking about making one. Sounds like a lot of work though, might be easier just to pay the £30... but I don't like to discourage him when he wants to get involved

£5 ivory one from ebay. Added some bits. I don't think I have a proper in situ pic.

Not relevant at all, but love Howard's (Big Bang Theory) face in the background of your pic Kharv!

We're having a bird cage, which my nan picked up ages ago for us. Going to decorate it with some seaside bits and bobs to make it more relevant to our theme.

    I love this.

Although I may just end up going with something simple a la Kharvo, as I don't really want to spend a lot of money on it.

When I was little I had a very old brown leather suitcase that I used to keep all my Barbie's in! So I'm using that!

Although, I will have to re-line the paper as its got my crayon scribbles all over it!

We got a box similar to Kharv's from Hobbycraft and I then found a place on Ebay to do the front bit with our names on it. I don't have a picture of it on here unfortunately.

I've got a silver box which i've decorated with ribbon and am lining with organza , it's not a post box as such, more just a pretty regular box, but as we've only got max 50 guests, a big postbox is a bit wasted!

I got two printer/photocopier paper boxes from work put one inside the other to make them taller, cut a hole in the top and covered it with paper to match the colour scheme with ribbon on, printed a card with our names a thank you and the date on and laminated it - cost me £1 for the paper as the ribbon etc was left over from my invites! It also totally sealed as you have to unwrap it to get in! Better to be safe than sorry!

I have a large birdcage (a decorative pretty one, not the type you actually keep a bird in!) and have added some flowers on the ont to add colour and tie it in with our theme.

We're using a crate too - though reusing one that I bought OH for Christmas - it's in one of our colours and has his nickname and favourite kind of beer on. I think I'll just make a cards sign to hang above it.

Hi KarenJane of course I don't mind you asking (I'm sorry, I can't quote on my phone!) It's with sovereign weddings in Ware, but they're delivering well out into Essex for me. I saw them at a local wedding fair - they are only a small company I think, but seem to deliver a fair few miles away from where they're based in Hertfordshire.

I'm making one a bit like this one. I have two boxes and a load of red material that I'm using to make other decorations, so it hopefully shouldn't be too tricky!

We are thinking of just having two picnic baskets, like these ->

    http://www.candigifts.co.uk/items/product-range/wicker-baskets~trays/wicker-hampers/superior-wicker-hamper-with-finger-holes-50x35x22-detail.htm

...one will be for cards and one will have a load of blank CDs in individual self addressed envelopes for our guests to take and download their pics to and post back to us!

The hope is that next to each other on a table they will tie in quite nicely. Drop your card on the way in, grab a disc on your way out Smiley smile

We're having a movie theme, so the "postbox" will actually be a big film canister box! We're going to buy one off ebay, clean it up and then paint it blue to match our colour theme. The one we've seen comes with three empty reels inside too, so we're going to prop them up/lie them down around the box so that it's a bit more obvious what it is for the non-movie folk haha
