What day would you fly?

MrsMac2be, 15 February, 2011 at 19:22 Posted on Planning 0 8

After reading "What are you doing the day after the wedding" thread it got me thinking...

We will be booking our Honeymoon within the next 6-8 weeks or so and I know that there are two flights that leave the UK to go to the Dom Republic. There is a flight the day after the wedding (Sunday) which flies from Manchester which I quite like the sound of as I dont want to be kicking my heels around the house for two days as it feels slightly like an anti-climax then not to leave straight away.

The other flight is on Tuesdays and from our local airport (East Midlands) which would obviously be handy for driving to and from etc and which OH likes the sound of going then, as he says it will give us time to look at the cards, finish packing bags, takign back hired suits, saying goodbye to guests and making sure house is tidy from said guests leaving which I know makes sense but the Tuesday seems soooo far off from the wedding?

We're also going to the Dominican Republic and we're flying on the Tuesday. We need to get from Scotland to London so will fly down there on the Monday night and then out from there on the Tuesday. It actually suits me fine - like your OH says it gives a day to get a bit organised, maybe spend some time with relatives still around, make sure house tidy, get cat settled with pet sitter etc. It also means when we get back we've got a few days at home before going back to work which will be good.

Not completely the same because it would only be kicking around for one day but we are getting married on the saturday and flying out on the monday from Gatwick - our answer was to kick start the honeymoon a day early and we're staying in a hotel near the airport the day before: we still get time for opening cards pressies etc. the day after the wedding but we really liked the thought to not have to stay home overnight between the wedding and the honeymoon.

Heya, we get married on the Saturday and our flight is on Tuesday morning, I quite like this as it means we have time to chat about the wedding with family/friends before shooting off on our Honeymoon and of course sorting stuff that needs to be done before we go.

We may even travel down to the airport the night before and stay in a hotel for the early start.

Another good reason to have a few days afterwards is to get over a hangover hehe hic hic ?

Tuesday's not that far from the wedding, will give you some time to organise properly get any last minute things. There's no way I'd be able to get organised for my wedding + get ready for a holiday all at the one time.

We've got a whole week to wait before we go for our cruise but it works out better cause we've got family from abroad coming and it will be nice to spend some time with them plus spend some time with our kids properly before we head off.

I'd take the Tuesday flight. You'll be tired after the wedding so it'll give you a few days to relax, pack etc. But also, you'll probably be shattered when you get back from honeymoon, so it'll be nicer to land at the closer airport ?

We're flying out on the Wednesday after the wedding which suits as fine as it means we can spend time with our children before we leave - we're thinking of keeping them off school on the Monday and then having Tuesday to pack followed by a meal with them in the evening.

Id be swayed toward the Tuesday flight, just to give yourselves a few days to recover and chill with each other after what is going to be a hectic few weeks in the lead up to the wedding.

And cant think of anything worse than travelling with a hangover from hell lol?

We flew, well started to fly, on the Monday night as it took us 48 hours to get to our destination. On the Monday we flew from Glasgow to Heathrow, then Tuesday the long flights started at 4am.

If I could have chosen to start flying on the Tuesday I would have because it was so rushed to get everything together to leave by 4pm on the Monday (we had cats to get to the cattery as well). We got home from the wedding venue about 11am on the Sunday and totally crashed out with exhaustion. I think it also affected us being shattered on honeymoon but the jet lag was the major factor in that as well.
