What do you call each other?

shoegal01, 21 August, 2009 at 15:15 Posted on Planning 0 37

I HATE the word fiance and whenever i am talking about my OH i always say 'my boyfriend'

Today when i said it my collegue said 'but isnt he your fiance' ?

Yeah he is but i feel like a bit of a twee twat calling him my fiance! Oh me and my fiance la de dar!!

Surely i am not the only one to find it twee?

OH calls me 'his bird' to his mates which obviously i am not thrilled about but i dont take offence like some people do.

If he is talking to someone other than his mates he'd say girlfriend

what do you all refer to each other as?

Lol I so agree! I usually refer to him as my boyfriend still although I've noticed I have used the word partner a few times! I feel stupid saying fiance. Roll on husband I say!

I always think if i say partner people will assume i am gay because thats what my gay friends refer to each other as 'their partner'?

I don't like fiance much though I do find myself saying it from time to time. Usually it's other half though.

Fiance. As boyfriend seems to casual and husband is too soon.

Enjoy it while you can, it's a fleeting moment!

I call him my boyfriend too, although unless I'm talking to a stranger I'll just call him by his first name and given the likely conversation it's pretty obvious who I'm talking about, if not they ask and I say he's my boyfriend.

Really sadly I'll feel a bit twee-ish calling him my husband, I think. It's almost a bit to newly-wed-fluffy-twee-ness for me ?.

Although I might be guilty of using the word (acronym) OH on here, I cringe when people use this in real life. I don't even know why.

I usually refer to him as my boyfriend, sometimes my other half. I never use the word fiance either! And actually I get annoyed when I'm referring to him to someone and then someone else that I know goes, "Don't you mean, your fiance?!!" all really emphasised, like I'm going to start giggling and showing everyone my ring ?

My husband used to get really upset if I referred to him as my boyfriend after we'd got engaged. I had to call him my fiance.

Im now the Wife and hes now Hubby....though i sometimes slip up and say fiance!

I actually tought this was a thread about pet names at first......lol

My daughter lives with her boyfriend and hates it when people call him her partner. They aren't engaged yet but have been together 4 years and although they want to get married, they won't get engaged until they've travelled a bit more and saved up a bit more! She always corrects them and says he's her boyfriend.

Edited to say that I called mine fiance - 1983 when we got married so it was still considered quite raunchy to live with someone! The word 'partner' hadn't been invented then LOL!

Boyfriend. Although I've been experimenting with saying "my husband" lately even though it's not quite true yet ?

I'm not old enough either, which is truly bizarre as I've already done it once!

He was my boyfriend until we got engaged, my fiance during the engagement and is my husband now. I always felt silly saying boyfriend - made me feel like a teenager. I liked saying fiance. Although I used h2b on here, I would never have said 'hubby to be' IRL.

Also have issues with fiance, not sure why but like you I feel a bit up myself using it (though I don't get the same cringe when anyone else uses it for some reason - what can say I'm a hypocrite!). I usually use partner even though people may assume I'm gay - if they don't know me well enough to know that I'm not then it doesn't particularly bother me if they think I am IYSWIM.

OH uses "missus" regardless of actual marital status.

He has already taken to the missus! It makes me sound like a right old moo ?

I agree with those saying that fiance sounds bit weird..... and boyfriend sounds a bit wrong too now... i find myself saying 'the fella' quite often as i'm not sure what to say... he's already taken to calling me 'the wife' lol

I have never once referred to ABear as my Civil Partner, or my wife (except to her to freak her out!) She was never my fiance either. Depending on who I'm speaking to she's my partner, the Mrs, my bird (not in front of her though ?, her indoors.....can't think of any others. Still slip up and use grlfriend sometimes.

I am 31 and still don't feel old enough to be someones wife and have a husband?

I think I have said husband to about 3 people, still feels a bit strange when I say it

It was boyfriend when engaged, fiance sounded a bit odd to me.

PS looking at me today I am single, got bitten and my finger is all swollen so rings are off, I miss them ☹️
