What do you get from your work at Christmas?

Does your Christmas party get paid for?

Is it just food, just drinks or both?

Do you get a Christmas bonus?

Our food gets paid for and some bottles of wine on the tables. The senior partners will usually buy a couple of rounds.

We sometimes get a bonus, depending on how December's takings have been. I think last year it was £20, the year before it was £50.

Hmm we get a buffet in the office, which means everyone except us on the helpdesk gets a skive and someone has to keep working. I never normally go cos it always falls on my friday off but this year I'll go in cos I'm providing the entertainment and it should be a laugh.

They give some wine/beer etc but to be honest we're out in the countryside and theres only a handful of folk that can drink it cos everyone else is driving ☹️

Our industry is the type that has a lull during the Christmas period which picks back up massively in January and February, so we get our bonus in March instead of at Christmas. We usually do a secret santa, we'll get little prizes during our December training days (to prepare us for the busy January period) which is usually cases of wine, weekend trips away and high street vouchers.. that kind of thing. We have an office party which the company pays for and we always have a special guest appearance. Last year was Stavros Flatley from BGT. This years is supposed to be even better.

Also, as my job involves needing a heck of a lot of motivation and team-work, we have 4 team-building nights-out in the year.. bowling, go-karting.. that sort of thing.

I always get a personal present from each of my bosses and a little bonus. I used to always get a piece of jewellery every year from my old boss.

Don't get parties, I'm the only employee so would be a little boring lol.

We get sweet FA. No bonuses or payrises and there is no Christmas party. The only days we are guaranteed to get off are Christmas Day and Boxing Day as we are closed, but we only get paid for them if we book them as holiday. This is true for all of us with the exception of one (part time) member of staff who gets a Christmas pressie (from the boss) and various other bits n bobs throughout the year (easter eggs, birthday pressie etc etc).

But then my boss is an utter c***

We get an office party. £10 each for 3 questionable courses and 2 drinks each, rest of drinks we have to pay for. Its quite a good laugh but the food is pants! Mental when you think I work for a catering company, we have none of our own sites close enough though

For the last 2 years my boss has also arranged a client party, it's mostly my team and a few clients though at Tatton Park. All paid for, hotel, food, transport. Its all very grand, nice food, lots of wine, stage show. We are supposed to pay for extra drinks but I just go around reminding my team of what I have done for them during the year and get them to pay for them!

My boss also gets me an Xmas pressie. Last year it was a case of wine!

Get absolutely nada. Will just be having the bank hols off, but will be on standby so could get called in at any time (unlikely, though).

I work for the NHS as well, so I also get the fights over who works what shift! Though this year I have a whole week off from boxing day that is unheard off as no one is allowed those 2 weeks off! Had to apply for 'special permission' to my matron to book time off over Xmas due to a small matter off getting married then! Though must admit the shift on Xmas day is normally quite fun! Your only there's for 2.5 hours as we all work a bit off it, so you pretty much take handover do a couple off washes/med round, open your secret santa present, then go home!

We have a Head Office christmas party (750 invited, usually about 300 attend), usually a hotel with 3 course dinner and a couple of free drinks followed by a disco. Budget has been cut this year but party still going ahead.

We are having a department night out which we are paying for ourselves.

We have a Christmas drinks reception (bubbles and canapes) with the Directors at Head Office for a few hours in the week leading up to Christmas.

    No bonuses.

We also raffle off all supplier donations with the money going to charity, there are usually some pretty good things in there.

We also have a Childrens party for those who are parents in the morning of the last working day before Christmas. Kids take over the office presentation room, they have a petting zoo, santas grotto, disco, games... loads!!

Does your Christmas party get paid for? - Yes, we usually have a department do (40 odd people) somewhere with a 3 course meal, drinks and disco and you only pay if you want things like champagne or shots, wine and standard alcoholic drinks are included. We also have a Christmas Quiz night for the whole office (300 people) at the local Jurys Inn hotel which includes a buffet and drinks and prizes.

Is it just food, just drinks or both? - Both

Do you get a Christmas bonus? - We get an annual bonus in January, it is firm and individual performance related so within reason the amount can be anything upwards of £1,000.

The department also has a constant supply of sweets, cakes etc throughout December and we usually get a selection pack each, and we do a secret santa.

We get a salary review every year in January and a whole office do that is a dinner and dance with entertainment, last year it was at the local football stadium, as well as a summer fun day with bouncy castle, BBQ etc.

Wow - people at work always complain we are hard done by but when you put it all down like that it sounds ok, especially compared to other people's !!!

Mynnie - How many days leave do you get each year ? I presume if you have to book public holidays off as annual leave you get them included in your quota ?

aww that sucks, are you a contractor or an employee? If you're a contractor then yeah unlucky but if you're an employee this is really crap of them.

I was getting 20 days off plus Bank Hols on my old agency contract but the business was shut between xmas and new year, so there were 3 business days I had to have a day off with no pay. When I got taken on as an employee however, I got given an extra 3 days leave that had to be set aside especially for this. If you can't work cos your office is closed I don't see why you shouldn't get paid for it.

As agency it will be different though cos why should the agency cover it.

For Christmas I get to work the late shift (lucky me! Although it is how I met H...)

We don't have a staff party for Christmas, we may have one in January but it's usually last minute and very disorganised if it happens. I think we've had 3 in the 7 years I've been there. We're still to arrange a leaving do for someone who left in September too...

One was in house, one at another hotel (we hosted theirs the following week) and one at an indian restaurant where I couldn't eat a thing because they ignored the fact I'm a vegetarian who's allergic to mushrooms by adding mushrooms to the veggie option and also serving everything with the same utensils therefore using the same things to dish lamb, chicken, prawn and vegetable options. Cross contamination anyone?!

We do occasionally get a bottle of wine too, not last year or the year before though. The younger staff (under 18) all got perfume/aftershave last year so not sure why us old ones got nothing.

Well jealous of Flow - where do you find a job like that???
