What have you most and least enjoyed about planning your wedding?

Angelika, 3 June, 2011 at 13:18 Posted on Planning 0 5

On the whole, it has been a lovely experience to plan my wedding, but I do get the odd moment when I just want to skip the country to marry OH or for it all to go away for a little while! At the moment, I have a lot of logistics and little details to work out, i.e. who is doing what on the day, calling suppliers, making sure everything is in place, working out how we will get things and people here and there on and before the day. Mightily fed up with working out these bits and bobs at the moment, not fun Smiley sad So I am taking a break and making my favours and enjoying the sun, and it is much more fun to be doing crafty bits! Yay! Smiley smile

So I am wondering, what have you all most and least enjoyed about planning your wedding?

I have most enjoyed: meeting lots of very lovely and creative people when we have been looking for suppliers; getting a chance to look around some stunning venues; all the creative bits; trying on beautiful dresses. Least enjoyed: having to organise everyone and thinking through the logistics; dealing with things that have gone (sort of) wrong under time pressures (cake, invitations, and church flowers!); having to make lots of decisions all at once for a 'once in a life time' event (because you have to get it right!).

At the moment I think I have enjoyed everything, but that is only cos it is so far off yet, and I haven't had any major stresses to cope with (as yet!) I have avoided any family issues so far, as OH family minds their own business and my mum is hugely supportive of anything and everything. OH very helpful and good when I want to blather on about centrepieces or whatever. Having a bridesman so no BM flounces. No kids involved, so no worries about outfits being outgrown etc. Found the dress easily, everything we wanted has been available on our date for us to book - I am hugely lucky! Just keeping fingers crossed I am not jinxing myself here! My fave bit was having our cheap as chips engagement party and seeing all our friends and family together for the first time.

I've enjoyed most of it, with the only exception being family politics when it comes to guestlist. I.e. being told by the inlaws and parents 'oh you *have* to invite so-and-so because (insert a silly reason here)'. Argh. That alone has made us both question why we didn't just fly away somewhere to do it!

Other than that it has all been very exciting so far. Only thing I'm not looking forward to now is sitting down and figuring out how to do the invites in office so its easy to cut them out, minimal paper waste etc - And then assembling 50 or so of them!

Best bit by far has been dress shopping! Shallow I know, but there we go ?

I'm lucky - we both ignore these suggestions from OH's parents...my parents are just very chilled and said whatever you want is fine - we would like x, y & z to be there, but its your day so you make your own decisions and we won't take offense no matter what you choose

So far I have absolutely loved every second of it, I'm sure that may change as the big day draws closer.

What I haven't enjoyed is saving like crazy and therefore having to cut back on things and miss days/nights out. Also, my brother can't make it back from NZ to give me away which is devastating, so now I have the task of picking between two stepdaads and an Uncle, which is tricky to say the least.

Love: 'designing' the day, picking a style, thinking of all the lovely bits and pieces to make it happen. I have loved buying all the pretty card and crafty bits. Hate: feeling like I might not pull it off, that these decisions are 'final'. But haven't disliked any specific job, per se.
