What wedding date would you choose?

Buzzee, 2 January, 2011 at 16:30 Posted on Planning 0 12

Hello!

We're looking at getting married next December but we're torn between the following dates, all of which are currently available both venue and registrar wise!

Thursday 22nd, Wednesday 28th or Thursday 29th.

I think the 22nd is nice as everyone will be in a good mood pre-Christmas and i like the idea of being able to eat what i like on Christmas day without worrying about fitting into a dress a few days later! But the 28th/29th also appeal as a lot of people (including us) are already off work and a nice wedding may give them something to look forward to in the boring period before NYE! Having these dates also mean we could go off on honeymoon on Jan 2nd which is cheaper than going over NYE!

So practcality wise the 28th/29th are better but i'm worried about losing that 'spark' that the 22nd may give!

What do you all think!?

Thanks!!

    Heya,

I dont think u have anything to worry about with the 28/29th as you said lots of people are off worek and people with children will have all the x-mas prep out the way etc.

but in all honestly i think any of the dates will be just fine,

    not much help sorry!

Personally, 22nd. Then Christmas can be enjoyed rather than you being all stressed..

As a guest, I'd prefer before Christmas too as after Christmas is all over and we've been travelling all over for a couple of days to see all the family, it's nice to just stay in on our own and relax, not worry about having to gussy up to go out again.

I'd say the 22nd as well, as we have to travel over xmas to visit family etc.

    Hey,

Personally I think after christmas would be the better option, i dont think you would put on that much weight over a couple days that u wouldnt fit in your dress?

Also like u say alot of ppl will be off work and christmas will be over and done with so that will be out of everyones mind Smiley smile

Plus your point about your honeymoon.

    Hope that helps?

    Good luck!

I may be a little contraversial here and this is only my opinion so please ignore me if you want but I am not keen on the idea of having a wedding so close to Christmas - maybe it's because I have my bride head on and all that planning for a wedding and Christmas at the same time would be too much for me.

I also think that some people would struggle to get holiday over the Christmas period (depending on your job obviously). I know that we have to book our Christmas off about a year in advance and sort of take it in turns for each Christmas as we have to have someone in the office.

If that is what you definitely want then I would suggest going for the 28th/29th - I understand what BB was saying about wanting to rest after all the travelling but I personally would rather it was after all the festivities than in the lead up to - I am far more stressed out before Christmas than after!

My cousin had a winter Christmas themed wedding on the 1st December a few years back and with the venue all decorated for Christmas, the excitement was still there. Although the excitement would be there anyway as it is your wedding!

    Hi!

I think you should do whichever you prefer because from a guest point of you I think you are likely to get a 50/50 split on preferences!

For example as a guest it would be much easier for me to get 22nd off work because I do a job that involves working over christmas and the new year and the bit between the two is the busiest so it would be very hard for me to get 28th and 29th off work. But I suppose I would be in the minority where working over the festive period is concerned!

We got married on 27th December with the same thoughts as you - nice to 'lift' that boring period between Christmas and New Year. Everyone was able to attend (it was a thursday) but if we were to be married now, because of job changes, that wouldn't still be the case.

I did find one major problem though. It took me ages to find a florist. Apparently most florists get a supply a little before Christmas and then nothing till New Year.

In view of this I would probably now go for just before Christmas or maybe NYE.

I love December weddings. The Christmas atmosphere is lovely.

Thanks for all your quick replies - keep them coming! Smiley smile

The work issue seems to be the main decision maker - so i'll ask around the people who we'd definitely want to be there and see if they have a preference.

Civil - the florist won't be an issue as think we're gonna go for silk flowers, but good to know in case we change our mind!

Hi there, we got married on the 21st December this year, a Tuesday.

It was brilliant, all the important people still managed to come and enjoyed having an excuse to book time off before xmas. In fact - everyone we invited accepted, just the snow stopped a couple.

It was perfect that it got everyone really geared up for xmas, wedding and xmas being very family orientated things. and then xmas day as hubby and wifey was brilliant ?

    22nd gets my vote xx

Getting married so close to Christmas, finding a florist will be difficult as this is one of their busiest times also most close for most of the Christmas & New Year period incl. the week in between as suppliers also close.

If you are having artificial then we work all year round and this may be a better option.

If those are the only dates you are considering, I would go for the 22nd rather than 28th/29th. This is because I think people tend to be more in a party mood just before Xmas. Personally I'd hate to have to go to a wedding in between Xmas and New Year, because that's the only bit of time I get to rest & rejuvenate at Christmas before going back to work!

However if you have any other options I would consider them as it could be stressful to organise a wedding so close to Christmas and may place unnecessary stress on your guests as well.

    Hope that helps ?

Hi - I would vote for between Christmas and new year, but it seems to be a 50/50 split so far so probably the best thing is to find out whether the people you really want to be there can get time off...

The reasons I'd prefer after Christmas are: before Christmas is often really hectic with shopping and getting things tied up at work, the bit between Christmas and new year can be weird and it would be great to have a wedding to look forward to (have been to a wedding at this time of year before, it worked really well) and finally, December can be a very expensive month so I personally would prefer to pay for a hotel etc after December pay day!

Personally I can't think of anything worse than a wedding so close to christmas, for a number of reasons. Sorry.
