What would you NEVER have at your wedding?!?

Following on a little from the 'Owl ring bearer' thread, What are you definitely NOT having at your wedding? What do you think is not you, to over done or simply tacky??? I'll start - - animals - chair covers - diamond/crystals on the tables (Just my opinion, mind!)

Eeek - my list is huge.

Things other people have said; poor dance routines, table cystals, receiving line, chair covers!, Money Poem, Butterfly or heart theme, Pushy staff who want to stick to a timetable, a pink wedding, overly feminine wedding, cluttered tables,

    Also:

    - White dresses with the coloured accents (except a bold sash/belt-thing)

    - Birdcages centrepieces

    - A theme that is completely nonsensical (e.g. Cadbury's chocolate!?!)

    - Ten hours on group photos (slight exaggeration but you get the point)

    - Men in those awful coloured waistcoats and cravats

I'm sure I'll think of others!!

I second the people you don't really know, why invite a bunch of folk you only ever speak to every few years or so.

Doves (cos they would poo on me lol)

    Jordan style horse and carriage

    Pink limo

    Folk dressed like slappers lol

    Cheesy games at evening do

Almonds - everyone does them (sorry) lol

Favours - I've never been to a wedding where someone bought me a three-course-dinner, wine & champagne and a party, and thought "Where's my present, tightwads?"

Cameras on tables - great idea if you're inviting a hundred people who know how to compose a photo and won't be completely off their tits by the end of dinner. I don't need pictures of OH's cousin's half-eaten pudding or a picture of my dad taken by my mum who is sitting six inches away from him.

Bridesmaids wearing royal blue - looks lovely but this is definitely the most common colour theme of weddings I've been to over the past few years.

Fortunately my venue doesn't require chair covers, and there will be no pink!

Don't mean to be offensive, just explaining my thought process!

Animals - I love my dog, but he has big muddy paws and would get bored

    Balloons

    Chinese Lanterns/Fireworks

    Receiving line

    Money poems

Big centrepieces - although the high ones look stunning and don't affect the table, they make taking pics of speeches really difficult

Did originally think "Children" but changed my mind as we want people to come all the way to Devon, and I remember wishing I could be a bridesmaid at some point and OH's has cousins of that age, so decided to have children along. Plus our church has a "play area" with fire engines/colouring books down one of the aisles, so it's quite kid friendly.

Thought of another - oops upside your head

I WILL NOT sit on the floor in a white dress. And MR said he always gets stuck having to do the splits behind some fat old bird, then having to help her up again after.

I dread weddings that have receving lines, i mean how many times can you say congratulations before it just sounds silly! the owl idea made me laugh, theres a venue near us that offers this, i cant think of anything worse!

i do like chair covers though!

I'd be curious to know why some of you have chosen the things you did? FYI I agree with a lot of them but just interested really.

My main things are balloons, dance routines or cheesy old crap music at night time.

Again, massive disclaimer for all of this, and it's horses for courses etc.

    No pink.

No theme - so vintage, you can do one. It looks lovely in the photo's but it's just overdone to me. Birdcages, mismatched teacups and bunting, I used to love you but now...not so much.

    No diamante.

    Money poems.

    No birds being released.

    No religion.

It's interesting how different people hate the idea of certain things. Admittedly I always said I'd never have artificial flowers - visions of the ugly garish coloured ones you get from cheap shops come to mind but things have changed and we're now having lovely ones.

So what wouldn't I have - balloons - I just think they look tacky,

    money poems

big fluffy dress / sexy clingy dress (but only because I can't wear them and am jealous of anyone who can ?)

    animals

favours (ok we are having fans but they will be given out before the ceremony because its hot)

a wedding committee - here in Tanzania it is the custom for a group of the couples friends/relatives etc to get together and plan the wedding for the couple who therefore have no real input. The committee also go round collecting payments from the guests (before the wedding of course) for the cost of things.

    Really stiff formal photos

Vintage theme - done to death (sorry)

And there are probably more if I really think about it but that'll do for now.

A lot of people have said they wouldn't have money poems...but can anyone suggest an alternative?

My OH and I already have things for our house, so money as such would be an ideal present. So, do you suggest that a simple line like 'monetary donations would be appreciated' would work better?

I would personally prefer to see that. Money poems are, in my opinion, a tacky way of hiding the fact you're asking for money, which just makes it stand out even more. A line something like "As we have been living together for some time there are very few household items that we need, but if you would like to give us a present, a contribution towards x would be appreciated," says the same thing politely and directly, without dressing it up in painful rhymes.
