Whats near your place of work?

Flowmojo, 8 December, 2011 at 10:28 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 31

For you to visit/do at lunchtime?

Where I used to work, it was on a business park, that had a large leafy park in the middle and nice walks around and stuff and tescos, asda and matalan all wthin driving distance so lunchtimes were alwayy varied. There was also a sandwich shop and a great pub for friday lunchtimes

In my current role i work opposite Pizza hut, Maccy Ds, Asda and KFC. Theres a B&Q, Mamas and Papas and Carpet Right on the same complex. It makes my lunchtimes very dull, so as i only live a 5in car drive away, i tend to pop home.

This office is the ONLY place ive ever worked where no one ever stays in on the their lunch breaks!! everyone goes out!!

Im about 20 mins walk from the town centre so dont tend to go there as i wouldnt have much time left. I work near a few sandwich shops, Tesco, Boots etc. It is very leafy round here so lunchtime walks are nice in the summer, but [:'(] in the winter.

There's nothing me to do. There is just a big recycling centre next to me, don't fancy spending my lunch there. I could go for a walk along the canal I suppose, but I'd probably get mugged.

Literally nothing, no shops for 6 miles. Just surrounded by fields, horses and a scattering of houses.

Our office is right in the middle of a housing estate... there is a tiny park just round the corner next to the mosque, or a few minutes in the car to ASDA or Sainsburys!!

Traffic too bad to get into town centre, and home just too far away that if I popped home I would have to turn round again as soon as I got there!

Having said that I rarely take a lunch break, eat while typing!!! ?

I'm right in the middle of town, but also about a minute's walk from my house. I tend to go home to have something to eat and then go for a mooch about town. Our heating doesn't come on at home until 4.30, so at the moment it's too cold to just sit around at home!

Westfield Stratford City! Before it opened it was just the Stratford shopping centre which is pretty rubbish, but does have a greggs.

Now we have over 300 shops and bars and places to eat. Its amazing. Except my hour lunch breaks rapidly become 2 hours without me noticing!

Got a park down the road too but if its not the pigeons trying to nick your food its the crackheads.

There's a gym right opposite. I know a few people go there in their lunch break, but not me. I prefer to eat than exercise ?

There's a Sainsbury's a short walk away which, in the summer, I take regular trips to.

Lots of pubs around, which I sometimes take visits to, but we've got a canteen so if I don't bring lunch, I tend to just get a sandwich from there!

Hmmph! We are in the middle of an industrial estate where there is nothing at all to do other than a tiny newspaper van to go to! We are about 15 mins drive from town and a Tesco's, which is a bit of a rush in an hour, with parking etc and also parking is at a premium here so if you take your car out at lunch you are likely to not be able to park again. Spend most lunchtimes on t'internet or if weather is ok then walk round the scenic factories and lorry parks lol.

I am on an industrial estate too and we have a park with a lovely walk in it, we don't use it as much in the cold though!

We do have a tesco, morrison's and a subway close by and there is also a lovely food van near me which sells baked potatoes Smiley smile

Office 2: museums, private gardens, park, shops, restaurants/bars/fastfood places.

Lots of choice wherever I am although I rarely have a lunch break.

Both OH and I work in canary wharf so theres loads of shops and places to eat, the problem is its too expensive to do every day! I hate sitting at my desk to each lunch but I end up doing this once or twice a week just to save money!

What is this 'lunch break' thing you're all on about? ?

I rarely get a break (other than to walk 7 yds to the kitchen to warm up my lunch) but there is a Tesco express, Dominoes, Subway and chippy if I want to go out for lunch. There is also a vet, a bookies and a charity shop in the same terrace. Our Occ Health dept organises lunchtime walks for those who want it. There is a pub within walking distance, but I wouldn't be seen dead in there (it's a bit of a hole) and an indian restaurant (I'm intolerant of most spices), and of course if I'm desperate there's always the hospital canteen.....?

I work in what is referred to as the 'business district' in Milton Keynes, so the main shopping centre is about 10 minutes walk, 2 minutes if I am feeling lazy/cold and drive, I have Sainsburys, M&S, Costa, Subway and a lot of chain restaurants (Zizzi's, Nandos etc) within 5 minutes walk and a Wetherspoons 30 seconds across the road.
We also have a small park area with some ponds and benches directly behind my office which are quite nice in the summer so I am pretty lucky !

And if I really need to I can be home in 10 minutes !

I tend to stay at work on my lunchbreaks if there's somebody I want to spend my break with. If not, I just nip across the road back home and have some food there. The only problem with that is that I never want to go back to work!

The city centre is less than 5 minutes away on the tram, so could go there if I wanted to.

I work in the centre of town so close to everything. Gunwharf is only 5-10mins walk away and there is also Victoria Park to sit in in the summer.

Where I work there is a newsagent type shop, body shop and restaurant on site. Just off site there is a sandwich shop, chip shop and a Greggs.

About 5 minutes away by car there is a Next outlet, WH smiths, Subway, Mcdonalds, mothercare, Clarks and HMV. I frequently visit the none food shops on my way home. Don't really get chance to go off site when working.

If I'm honest I'm lucky to stop and sit down for 5 minutes when I'm working.

    Yikes.

Although thhe town centre is a 5 minute drive away as I'm at a school we can't really leave at lunch. Plus we only get 35 mins and by the time you've let one class go, spoken to some students, set up for the next class, there isn't really time to do anything!

My OH works at a huge science campus in the middle of a village so they can go to the village pubs but they also have a huge amount of land so most lunch times there is a sporting event that they can take part in or they can go for a walk around the nature reserve or for a stroll through the orchard, or go and sit by the lake. Not that I'm jealous or anything! If I'm looking after my neice in the holidays we usually meet my oH there for lunch, have a picnic, go for a stroll, pick some apples etc. Would love to work there if I knew anything about science and thought I could stomach an office job!

We're right in the middle of the town's High Street, which is where 90% of the shops are here. However, the only time I get to leave the building while on shift is to take the banking along or to go to the post box right outside. We don't get breaks.

    NOTHING.

We are in the middle of an industrial estate- there is a big Tescos about a 5 min drive away but we tend to just stay on site- the canteen is very expensive and only serves food between 11.45-2 so if your lunch is any later than that you will go hungry.

This is why I have taken to bringing in those god awful "mug shot" things so as I wont starve to death/ live on mars bars from the vending machine.

The cheesey pasta and the spicy tomato ones are OK- would recommend steering clear of the Thai Style, tasted like washing up liquid.

I agree about the Thai ones tasting like washing up liquid, just vile. I love the cheese ones though, tomato are a close second. Flow, are they not that bad for you then? I always feel like a fatty when I've had one.
