Whats the most you would spend on a going out dress?

Bride2BMilliexx, 3 May, 2012 at 14:54 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 33

Bit of a random ask! It's not for a special occasion or anything just a purply bodycon just above knee length dress. Its absolutely gorgeous and from celeb boutique so it's £110. Which imo is a little steep for just a going out dress but I love it.

How much is too much for a party dress in your opinion?

I'd probably stretch to that, but it would have to be amazing.

I am a cheapskate and unless it was a special occasion I don't think I'd spend more than £50.

My hen night dress was £70 from Lipsy and that's about the maximum I would spend really. For a normal night out it would be £40-50. I think it depends on your financial circumstances as everyone's different, if you can afford it the go for it!

I should point out that the last time I bought 'a going out dress' was over a year ago.

Considering I only spent £30 on my wedding dress, I wouldn't spend more than that on a dress for a night out... ?

The last time I bought a "going out" dress I paid £130 it was a gorgeous Ted Baker number but I did get my wear out of it. I wore it for our pre wedding meal and also for a christening. I dont treat myself alot so when I do I really treat myself, so it's not that much IMO.

I would spend that, perhaps a little bit more, if I really love the dress.

If I felt I could afford it I would spend that and probably even more getting my hair and nails done, oh and any excuse for some new shoes as well!

How about we see a flash to help us decide ?

It also depends if you'll wear it more than once. If you can only wear it clubbing for example, it's a lot but if you could wear it to weddings, christenings etc then it's not so bad.

Personally I wouldn't spend that money on a going out dress but then everyone is different.

If you think you'll wear it loads £110 isn't too bad. I've spent that much on a dress for a wedding and worn it to nearly every wedding i've been to for the last four years.

£30-£40 for a normal going out dress, possibly a bit more like £50-£60 for a wedding guest dress.

I fell in love with a French Connection dress that was £120 but wouldn't stretch to that, so I bought one off ebay for £60, only worn once and you would never know!

It would depend on the dress. For something classic and well cut I'm prepared to spend a fair bit. For something that's very fashion led, not so much.

I would never normally spend this much on a dress but I think im blinded by how much I love it and not paying attention to the price much. It's just above knee length so not too short so classy and would wear it again and again!

I would pay that if you loved it, the quailty was good, and if you'd get lots of wear out of it. I would spend up £200 on a dress really but it would have to be something that would never date, and you could get a million and one wears out of it.

I agree with EF. The only reason that dress is so expensive is because Billie Faires wore it. I'm sure the high street will be selling similar for around £60.

Although its not my money so, what the hell!

If I loved it and it looked good on, I'd probably buy it. I will happily buy a few dresses at a time for £40-50 so it's not much difference to just getting one more expensive one. Would have to be something I would wear again though.

For a normal night out dress around £30, prolly a new look special or the likes, but for a wedding or nice occasion i would pay about £70 ish, but would have to be a classic style i could wear again and again. I am pretty thrifty though. I recently bought some beautiful shift dresses out tesco of all places, £18 each ? then i went back in and some were in the sale, £1.50, i kid you not.

This, really. I very rarely go out, so if I do it will be for a really special occasion, birthdays in a nice restaurant followed by a nice cocktail bar, or weddings, christenings etc- so I would be more inclined to get a decent frock! Would have to be able to re-wear it a good few times though. Not disposable fashion.
