When a recipe states 'half a cup'...

HatTrick, 19 January, 2013 at 21:19 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 8

What exactly do they mean by a cup? A mug? A beaker? A tea cup? Is there an official 'bakers cup'?

Well I bought a kid-proof mini donut maker thinking its got to be idiot proof. It seems I was wrong as it turned out like sugary scrambled egg Smiley smile

? oh good god! I'd say about half a mug size is a cup then, but just buy some measuring spoons for next time!

I always thought a cup is approximately 250g, but I may have made that up.

It really depends on what you are measuring. Butter, sugar, flour, liquid...can all be different in grams if you don't have a cup measure.

when I am copying a recipe from the Internet, I use the following website and it always seems to work out well. Down the right hand side you can change what you are measuring.
