Where are you from originally?

Erin8, 16 October, 2014 at 14:54 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 64

I am from Manchester originally went to Newcastle for university, then moved to London for a long time and l now live in Essex. I have been quite home sick lately which is weird after 15 years. I am hankering after a nice terrace in Chorlton or Withington.

Where are you all from originally?

Hampshire originally, moved to Bristol for Uni and haven't left! Apart from one year in London for my placement year! I love Bristol and have no desire to move any time soon!

I've stayed in Kent for pretty much all my life although I spent a few years in south-east London. I was so close to home though that it never felt as if I'd moved away x

I'm originally from Bath, then moved to Bristol (hello Mrs Bass! I share the love) for a couple of years, then spent one year in China and now live in Sardinia, Italy where I've been for the last 4 years. H and I have plans to move to the UK though in a few years/when sprogs come along.

    Pretty much this.

Lived in SE London when I was first born. Moved to the borders (literally...one end of the road was SE and the other was DA which is Kent!) and then with each move got a bit further into Kent.

However, next year, we're moving to Essex. Which isn't that far, but it's not where i'm from! *stamps feet* I don't mind really...!

Should have said, it went like this 'Woolwich, Welling, Bexleyheath, Dartford'

If you look on a map you will see the pattern of moving one/two town/s along each time haha!

I actually live a street away from the hospital I was born at and work 5 minutes away from the house I grew up in.

Born in New Zealand (Greymouth). Moved to Scotland in Sept 2008, then to Bristol a year later where I have been ever since! (And given we are just about to buy a house here, I'll be here for a while longer yet, I expect).

Born in east London, grew up on the east London/Essex border, moved to Birmingham for uni at 18, moved back to east London at 22 and have lived here since. Would like to move to south Wales someday when we have a family (but telling my mum that will be interesting!)

Born on Portsmouth, moved to uni, moved to London and then back to Portsmouth. When I moved in with h I lived in fareham but I'm now back to Portsmouth again.

I have real issues that the place of birth on my passport is the same as where I still live. Portsmouth isn't a nice place really although until I met h I had actually never technically lived in Portsmouth, always southsea which is much much nicer.

    I haven't moved that far.

Originally from North London & now live in Hertfordshire.

Slight BT ref: Not sure where to move to next. I like the idea of moving to Kent as London is still really accessible, OH has family there and I think it's got some really lovely parts but my parents are still in N.London and I know my mum would be upset at being further away from me when she doesn't drive far.. Plus when I do start trying for and hopefully having kids in the next year or so I'll want the free babysitting that my mum will provide ;-).

Born in a dull town in Northamptonshire where my entire family still live.

Moved to Nottingham then Derby for a year when I was about 18. Then came to Manchester for uni. Ha, we lived in a gorgeous, big, student house in Withington for a year, felt very posh compared to my fallowfield friends Smiley winking

Family circumstances saw me move back home for a couple of years but have been back up here in Manchester for a while now and very happy. It worries me to think how we'd cope if we ever have children as there's no family to rely on (OH's family are all in Ireland) but I can't imagine him ever wanting to move down to Northants!

I was born and grew up in a little town in Shropshire, where my parents still live. Went to Cambridge for university and was there 6 years so it did feel like I properly lived there, unlike many students who just do a normal degree and spend three years in "the bubble". London for 5 years post graduating, and just moved to Oxford. I'm going to be working around this area for the next 5 years, but I'm not sure we'll stay in Oxford itself - H has just got a new job in MK (woo!) so we might move over that way a bit. He is from Northampton originally (there seem to be a surprising number of Northamptonians around here!) so we are relatively near to his family now.

I miss Shropshire a bit, think it was a lovely area to grow up, but I don't see us ever moving back there. I love the countryside and not being in a big city, but I don't want to work in the hospitals there!

I'm from a little village about 10 miles from Brighton, at the base of the south downs. I moved around the surrounding areas for a while, then I moved to Salisbury for work, then got a job in Southampton, and decided i didn't want to move around anymore, so I bought a flat (almost 5yrs ago now) having never been here before! I don't like Southampton much, but work in my field is hard to find, so we'll stay here for at least a while longer!

I grew up in the Yorkshire Dales where buses were few and far between and the local shop was a 5 minute drive away. I left at 18 to go to Uni and am now in the Midlands where I think I am here to stay as hubs is in automotive engineering and the majority of factories are based this way. Given half a chance I would be back in the Dales, they are not great for teenagers/young adults but now I am settled I would love to bring my kids up there. The only downside would be having to ferry the kids backwards and forwards because public transport is practically non existent.

    Maybe when we retire...

    Tamworth, and still live here.

I live 5 minutes down the road from my Parents, and my kids attend the same schools I went to.

My H moved from Birmingham to be with me, as I wouldn't move.

Possibly! But it's a bit big for me really, although I can see the benefits especially as my friends all live there! Would definitely be down South though as I have relatives in Bath, Chippenham, Weston Super Mud etc..

I love seeing where everyone's from.. we're pretty diverse!

I was born in Beckenham (south london) then my parents moved up to the Scottish highlands, where we lived til I had finished my Standard Grades. Then we moved to my mums hometown, St Petersburg, Florida. Stayed there thru Uni, then got an MA programme at Leeds Uni. Moved to Leeds for a year, fully intending to return to the States after the MA. Met my (now) h2b at the end of my MA year, fell truly madly deeply, and moved to Manchester to live with him 6 weeks later! And been here ever since. I freaking love Manchester, but its possible we'll have to move once I've finished my phd, just because i'll have to go where the job is. Keeping my fingers crossed the great rail links in the north west and the proliferation of Unis in striking distance will work in my favour!

I am an Essex girl originally, Mersea Island/Colchester growing up. I moved to Brighton for university and stayed for 5 years in total. Three years ago OH and I picked Tunbridge Wells as our new location (although it was very nearly Leicester!).

People are always really shocked that I am originally from Essex as I definitely do not have the accent!
