Where are you honeymooning?

Vanadesse, 28 September, 2013 at 16:49 Posted on Planning 0 52

Just wondering where people are honeymooning to and, if you don't mind sharing, how much it's costing you.. hoping for a bit of inspiration!

We're planning to head to America for a few weeks and travel around a bit.

We've not set a budget at this point in time to be honest, but it'll be as much (or as little) as we can save in the couple of months leading up to the wedding. I'm sorry, I know that's vague, but i'd definitely hope not to spend more than £4k. Less than £3k ideally...but I don't know if that's realistic having never been before.

We are off to africa next july, 7 night safari around kenya and 7 nights all inclusive in mombasa on the beach.

I very luckily won a once in a lifetime work incentive (I work in the airline industry) and won an amazing prize of £5000 in holiday vouchers (i won these thirteen days afterngetting engaged!!) and I get £1250 a year towards holidays too in concessions so we are suuuuper lucky to have a £7500 holiday for £1250 of our owm money.

We'd never have booked a honeymoon that expensive without that though, we did however upgrade our room and flights, and picked the longest most expensive safari (why not!) so there are other much cheaper options out there too Smiley smile

I'm so looking forward to a hot air balloon over the plains at sunrise, we've never done a safari before and it was an easy decision for us although we had plenty of choice.

We're off to Mauritius! We love luxurious holidays and do tend to splurge big time with them, so ours is costing just under £6000. In just over 2 weeks I'll be there, can't wait!!

We are hoping to book a lodge somewhere in the UK to spend a week or so straight after our wedding and completely relax together. We've also booked up for a 14 night Caribbean cruise a few months later. Since we'll fly via New York we're hoping to tag on 3 or 4 nights there as well at the end. We've not booked the flights or hotel yet but think it will come in at around £6K for the two of us. In the five years that we've been together we've only actually been abroad once and that was just a couple of nights in Paris, so we wanted to do something that will be really special to us.

We're mini-mooning in a Fynn Valley Holidays lodge in Suffolk, costing about £450-500 for 4 nights (they're 5* Gold lodges), then maxi-mooning in Asia: 3 nights in Kuala Lumpur then 10 nights in Sanur, Bali. Both 4* hotels, cost excluding spending money for the 2 of us is around £2900.

We stayed for a very mini-moon in Oxford after the wedding (we really just stayed one extra night!)

Our actual honeymoon was 9 months later for various reasons. We went to Zanzibar, had a week in a beach resort, 2 nights on Chumbe Island (a private nature reserve eco-lodge island place) and 3 nights in Stone Town. It was ~£5000 including most of our spends there, I think.

We're off to Florida for a week and then Mexico for 8 nights and flights and hotels so far have cost £3300. Need to add on theme park tickets and car hire which will probably put it up another £1000

I think we're gonna end up doing something like going to Paris for a couple of nights then going somewhere like giverny or Provence for a few days or even just drive through. We did wanna go Mexico or Cuba but our budget wouldn't stretch.

5 days in Sri Lanka, 5 days in the Maldives. Sri Lanka gives us culture, and saves us some money so we can splurge on all inclusive in the Maldives. It's coming in at £5k - way more than we'd ever spend on a holiday, but we're having a honeymoon gift list and we've been really lucky to have some help with the wedding from my parents. CAN'T WAIT.

We are getting married in Las Vegas so our honeymoon starts there. We are then thinking New York and then St Lucia. We like a mixture of doing things and relaxation on holiday. In total we are aiming to be away for about 2.5 weeks in total. Not sure about the cost yet. We were wanting to go to Las Vegas, Buenos Aires and the Galápagos Islands but it was crazy expensive -about £4k per person!!!

San Fran, driving down the coast and stopping in Big Sur and Santa Barbara, then onto Vegas. Including car hire and a sunset helicopter trip to the Grand Canyon it totals £4400.

More than I'd budgeted, but its our honeymoon.

Those going to Mauritius, where are you staying?? We are struggling with the choice of hotels and determining where is best to be on the island. We are currently drawn to paradise cove as it's adults only. But any recommendations would be fab!

We're getting married in June and are going to stay in the hotel where the wedding is for a few days after and my mum is going to stay at ours with our 10 year old then in the summer holidays we're going to New York for 5 days and then Florida for just over 2 weeks. We're going to stay on international drive for a week and then in disneyworld for a week with a few days at the beach in between. We'll be taking our son with us and although we go to Disney world quite often we are doing things we've never done before. We have tickets to see blue man group and cirque de soli and hopefully (meaning if I can convince oh who hates sea creatures) we're going to go discovery cove and go swimming with the dolphins. I'm such a big kid I can't wait!

All these honeymoons sound absolutely amazing - some of them are true once in a life time trips!

H2B wants to road trip the west coast of America, taking in the sights as we go. Havent set a buget yet, but we would like it to be around 17-21 days. Although some of the south east asia trips that are mentioned here have got me thinking (something I would love to do but not totally up H2B street - trying to convince him of a round the world trip in the future and think I am starting to make progress!)

We had a week in Santorini in Greece. Cost us £1k for b&b then we spent another £1k while we were there.

We could only have a week off so couldn't really go long haul, but don't regret it for a second, would highly recommend it

My fiancé is organising the honeymoon as a surprise for me - which is mainly really exciting, but sometimes slightly scary! I have no idea where he is planning (he says he hasn't book it yet), but we decided to make it somewhere we've not been before. He's implied that it'll somewhere we are unlikely to be able to afford again - but had also joked that neither of us have been to Butlins!

I guess I'll have to wait and see, and hope he knows me as well as I think he does.
