I would say your looking at £100 a person without alcohol, it is worth it! Tides is another good restaurant and you have to do Lonestar for lunch!

We went to bangkok for 3 nights:

    http://www.shangri-la.com/en/property/bangkok/shangrila/rooms/aboutthekrungthepwing

then to koh samui for 10 nights, staying here for 4 nights:

    http://www.samuihillsidevillage.com/accom.htm

and then here for another 7 nights:

    http://www.moonhutsamui.com/beachfront-bungalow.php

last place was quite basic, but very very worth it.

i loved loved loved thailand, cannot recommend the place highly enough.

some of the HMs on here sound A-MAY-ZING.

Ive been to the bahia principe (i was about 13 at the time though!) and from what i can remember it was really nice, food was good. We went in hurricane season and i remember nearly every day at about 1pm it chucked it down for an hour then cleared up straight away. It was actually really nice as it was so hot! Most of the guests were glad of the tropical showers.

Http://www.thecliffbarbados.com/reservations.html It's pricey but the rest of Barbados (I thought) was good value (and in some areas) bordering on the cheap.

I think I'm the only bride who'll be coming home with frostbite instead of a suntan! We're off on a Norwegian cruise, hopefully to see the northern lights. It's an all inclusive 12 day vogage into the arctic circle.

We get to do a Viking feast, sightseeing in various cities, trips into the wilderness, and if there's snow we'll do a husky dog sledge adventure too.

I am hoping to do this... need to convince OH to spend the money tho!!!

DAY 1 → Fly SriLankan Airlines from Heathrow, arriving the next day.

DAY 2 → Transfer to the colonial Mount Lavinia Hotel in a Standard room. Afternoon at leisure (approx. 31 miles, 1½ hours drive).

DAY 3 → Morning start for the popular Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage. After lunch continue on to Habarana for two nights (approx. 130 miles, 4½ hours drive).

    PINNAWELA

DAY 4 → In the morning, optional sightseeing is available at extra cost to Polonnaruwa the 12th Century Sinhalese capital. Later, visit the rock fortress of Sigiriya. A climb to the top (only for the energetic!) will reveal a spectacular view. The gallery of frescoes half way up is a definite highlight (approx. 135 miles, 3 hours drive).

    POLONNARUWA

    SIGIRIYA

DAY 5 → Drive to Kandy for two nights visiting the magnificent Dambulla rock caves, a spice plantation and batik workshop en route. This afternoon visit the famous Temple of the Tooth. Enjoy an evening visit to see a Kandyan dancing and culture show (approx. 80 miles, 2½ hours drive).

    DAMBULLA

    TEMPLE OF THE TOOTH

    KANDYAN DANCING

DAY 6 → A full day to marvel at Kandy ’s sightseeing. Visit the Royal Botanical Gardens ablaze with colourful exotic plants. This afternoon enjoy a tour of the city including the market square, a gem showroom and Upper Lake Drive (approx. 20 miles, 1 hours drive).

    ROYAL BOTANICAL GARDENS

DAY 7 → Drive toward the hill country, with a stop en route to visit a tea plantation and factory. Then travel on to Nuwara Eliya, the most celebrated of the hill stations and set in a stunning mountain valley some 6,000 feet above sea level. Afternoon sightseeing, with spectacular views of the beautiful green hillsides, rushing waterfalls and tea plantations (approx. 65 miles, 2½ hours drive).

    NUWARA ELIYA

DAY 8 → Leave for Mount Lavinia Hotel .

DAY 9 → Transfer to the Maldives

Maldives: Speedboat transfer to Kuramathi Island 7 Nights, All Inclusive in a Garden Villa

    KURAMATHI

    Garden Villas - 45 sqm

With four built together, the Garden Villas each measure 45sqm and are close to the beach and the pristine blue waters. They provide for our most affordable Kuramathi experience.

H2B is not convinced on the tour of sri lanka yet but we get all of above for £4k!!!

Not sure of the exact location of some of these as I've not got my list to hand, but I'm sure a quick google would rectify that. On my list is...

    Elephant safari with rescued elephants

'White' water rafting (somewhere up towards Ubud, was rec'd by the lady I spoke to at Trailfinders)

    Monkeys & oragutans - Ubud

    Tannah Lot temple

    Visit to the paddy fields

Visit to one of the many volcanoes

    Traditional cookery school

    Night markets at Kuta

    Mushroom & Dream beaches

We've also had recs for Bimbu Bali and La Scala restaurants too.

There's probably more, but that's all I can remember ATM. I'm not sure how much we're going to be able to fit in though as we've got so much to do, but I'm really hoping that we can at least manage all of the above. I'm hoping that, as there's so many on here going, we might be able to get some more recs before we go too. Will probably start a thread closer to the time to see who knows what.

Thank you, lots of things there I'd love to do (although I'll skip the rafting!)! I went on an elephant safari in Zambia this summer and it was amazing.

We went to Barbados (it was where we got engaged) and it was lovely! We stayed on a South Coast but had a car and explored the whole island, which is beautiful! We had a few chilled beach days also.

I would def recommend Barbados! ?
