which wine do you prefer and other questions!!

Doris 5/10, 19 November, 2011 at 15:33 Posted on Planning 0 15

Good Afternoon Hitchers?

I have decided to take a small break from dissertation and ask you all a couple of wine questions.

For reasons I won't bore you with we have decided to buy the bulk of our wine for the wedding this sde of christmas. We are getting maried May 2013.

I think we need 4 bottles to each table of 10. Also I think it should be 2 white and 2 rose. (Only know 2 friends that drink red so will get that seperately)

OH thinks thats too much Rose..........

My questions are

Is 4 bottles enough on each table?

Do you drink white or rose?

Should we provide red on the tables too?

We are aiming to get 60 bottles in total so will have approx 40 for the tables and 20 left over which we will chat to the venue and the best way of serving these.

If you have any other suggestions please shout up.

Cheers.?

We're accounting for half a bottle of wine per person so would go for 5 bottles for a table of 10 - maybe you could have 2 white, 2 rose and 1 red? Personally I'd drink white.

My personal preference is rose, but would also drink white (but only really if they're sparkling). I'm not normally a wine drinker though, and can't drink too much of it so would also drink something non-alcoholic or table water - I'd probably only drink 1 (maybe 2) glasses of wine for the seated bit. I know some people like red with a meal though (the fools haha- Horrible stuff!), so would be tempted to have 1 bottle red per table...

I have been thinking about wine too as we are going to be buying ours soon. I am having 8 to a table so i was thinking 4 bottles per table. I was going to do three white and one red.....I figured that most people who drink rose would drink white.....

What is the meal being served? This would sway whether I'd drink red or white wine. I dont often drink rose, but would if nothing else was available.

How many people per table? 8, 10?

I'm surprised that of ALL your guests, only 2 drink red wine! Did they fill in a questionnaire?

To be honest we haven't decided on meal yet...........

We have been given some vouchers to use for a supermarket and wanted to put them to good use for the wedding.

There is 10 to a table if we go with sit down meal.

Questionnaire??? ? Actually I sent a jokey text the other night asking what people drank.

I begining to think we need white, rose and red........

I don't drink rose at all to be honest. I love Wolfblass and I am known for drinking it so we thought it would be a nice touch to have it on the tables.

For ours, we initially allowed half a bottle per person but had the waiters top people up rather than having them on the table as this meant only wine that was drunk was opened. We set an initial amount of wine to pay for but told the venue to keep it coming if it was being drunk, in the end we had some left open which were put on the bar in the evening.

    Thats a good idea.

I know some people will drink the wine with gusto and others will only have 1 glass and waste the rest.

I'd def get red wine also, unless there really are only 2 people that drink red, but I find that rather odd. Most people I know would drink a red if you serve lamb, steak etc. I've only ever seen red and white at weddings, never a rose, but if you really wanted it, I'd get say 2 red, 2 white & a rose for each table.

I would agree with you about the rose tbh esp at a summer wedding! I too know only a handful of people at my wedding like red wine, but then over half my guests will be under 25 so I don't know if that has something to do with it?
I think I might go down the route of having the wine served and can then provide a few bottles of red just in case (I know my Dad will want it anyway)!

I would suggest 2 white 2 rose and a red per table ?

I see that you're getting married in 2013. I'm sorry but I have my sensible head on!

A couple of things to bear in mind is what's the storage time of the wines you're thinking of purchasing. Some wines are best drunk young (within 6 months of purchase) and others can be stored longer. It usually says on the label. You don't want to make a saving with your vouchers, then find that your wine has turned to vinegar on the day. Maybe you could get a similar deal this time next year?

Also how much corkage is your venue charging for each bottle? Ours was 6 pound a bottle and ended up being 140 pound

We provided a white wine for the reception drinks, and Sparkling Rose for the toasts. We decided not to provide wine on the table, as we weren't sure what people would prefer to drink. No one passed comment about not having wine on the table.

I hope I haven't upset you by bringing these small points to your attention?

    Hi Karen945

Thats good advice so not upset.

Corkage is 6.50 But because we have these vouchers the wine sort of works out cheaper......we only need to pay for the corkage.

I will check the label. Hope it's ok because we have ordered them? If not at least I won't be buying wine for the house for a while.

If you could find 1litre bottles instead of 700ml, you'd save a bit on corkage! What about if you take magnums? LOL.
