Who are your bridesmaids and what made you pick them???

la1510, 12 February, 2011 at 10:12 Posted on Planning 0 29

This is mainly just because i'm nosey!!! However I was thinking how I ended up with my 4 best girls- My sister and OH sister were a given, but my cousin (although i'm really happy I did pick her) was a suggestion by my mum as 'your gran would really like it' and my friend wasn't even a thought till OH mentioned it was only family and did I not want a friend as well- She is both our friends who I met un uni as was OH house mate for a while, as soon as OH mentioned friends she immediatly came to mind.

So was just wondering how you all picked your best ladies and whether it was all your own choice or did others have their say??

I've got my best friend and SIL2B.

My best friend was a given from the get go but my SIL was never part of my reckoning. It was my OH's mother who wanted her to be a BM and I felt obligated. With hindsight I should have said no as she's a nightmare but anyway, we live and learn!

I ave my two closest friends from uni who I lived with (amonst other people, we had a bit of a party house with 10 of us overall!), I just love them both so much - there's nothing quite like living with someone during such an amazing time in your life for creating a really strong bond. Also my younger sister who is without doubt my very closest friend- entirely unreliable at times, but no one knows me so well (or has forgiven me so much!), and then my best friend from school who I have known since I was 11. I just love all four of these girls so much - just being around them reminds me who I am, if that makes sense??

I am also having my eldest cousin's 4 year old daughter as my flower girl. My cousin has had a really tough few years, and she is much older than her 29 years and I just felt like it was a nice thing to do for her. I can't have everyone as my bridesmaid, but I want to involve all of my family as much as possible - I want it to be their day as much as ours xxxx

I have four bridesmaids, 3 were a given and I wouldnt have it any other way, my 2 half sisters who have been waiting for this for years (the youngest who is 13 told my OH to hurry up and propose last year as she was getting too old to be a bridesmaid ?, and the the other is OH sister, who I also consider a friend so am looking forward to have her be a big part of our day

The 4th bridesmaid and the non family member of the whole wedding party is my best friend who i have known years and I am so glad I asked her too x

I've got 2 adult bridesmaids, my sister, who is the truest friend I could ever ask for (other than OH of course) so she was a given. The other is SIL2B, who was also a given for me, but when I asked her the look of surprise on her and MIL2B face was so sweet (it was a good surprise look!). Neither of them were expecting me to ask her, and she even thanked me for it- Even though it had actually never crossed my mind not to ask her!

I don't really have a best friend either, and not wanting 6 bridesmaids thought I couldn't choose from my friends so have left it at two.

I'd love a flower girl though, but don't know anyone with a daughter!

Im having my OHs cousin who will be 15 - she's a lovely girl and is very excited! My other bridesmaid is my parents god daughter and the closest thing i have to a cousin or sister. I use to babysit her and shes now nearly 21 and travelling round australia! Shes back in June though so we can get really into the bridesmaid bits then. On top of that, although they are not bridesmaids, I have a very small close group of friends who will be taking the lead on the hen party, etc. I would love to have all my neices, nephew and god daughters as flower girls but we just cant afford it..... if circumstances change I may get them some pretty dresses to wear, if their parents are okay with it!

*obviously i would get my nephew something other than a dress and have him as more of a page boy!*

I'm having 5 adult bridesmaids - my three best friends, all from uni....a close friend whom I've known from first school (and who knows me better than anyone!) and my sister.

I really wanted my bridesmaids to be the women closest to me, not just family obligations - they're all really excited and supportive so I know I've made the right choice.

People have asked why i'm not having OH's sister too, but luckily for me she told me from the get go that she didn't want to be a bridesmaid! Her two daughters and my niece will be flower girls though.

I am having my 2 sister who are 23 and 21. This caused quite a few agruments in our house as my mum thought i should have all my 4 sisters. But i thought my other 2 sister were just too young they are 16 and 13 i dont really have much in common with them. As were i am very close to the older 2. I was bridesmaid for the 23 year old last yr us 3 are really close, my mum doesnt seem to understand this though. I suppose i could of had the other 2 as junior b/maids but i felt that with our 3 flower girls (3 neices) that would just be too much.

I'm having all OH's family, my CBM is his sister and her daughters (18 and 7) will be bridesmaid and flowergirl. I have no family that I felt I wanted as bridesmaids but I get on really well with his sister and nieces.

I am just having my sister and there was never any question that she would be CBM as we are really close. I would have liked a couple more bridesmaids but I have 4 cousins and 4 friends that I am close to....and I couldn't choose between them and can't afford to have them all. I don't know any little girls or boys so won't be having a flowergirl or pageboy either. I think it will be nice just having my sister as she will be staying with me at the hotel the night before and I know she will help to keep me calm and look after me.

Well i have 4 adult BM and a flower girl, ideally i would just have my best friend who i met through work, i have asked 2 of my cousins 23 and 18 and then was kind of guilted into OH half sister, i have not asked OH big sister ( i wasn't at her wedding) but again was forced my MIL2B to have her granddaughter as our flowergirl. so the fun of family politics huh? In a way i am pleased now, OH half sister was sooo happy to be asked bless her and has shown interest in the wedding so that is really sweet and has got step MIL2B interested as well so thats nice, also OH half sister can keep flowergirl happy as well and entertained and help get ready!

My bridesmaid line-up has changed a bit over the last 12 months - I had originally asked 4 of my friends, as I live a long way away from my family now so having my nieces would have been difficult, and I'm not exactly best buds with OH's sister. After a few bits of drama, I now have 2 bridesmaids (one is my oldest friend who I've known since we were just 1 year old, and one is my closest friend where i live now) - I was bridesmaid for both of them at their weddings and while it might be a bit odd having both bridesmaids married, the unmarried girls were the ones causing all the problems and these 2 have been great! I'm also having my oldest friend's 2 young daughters as flower girls. OH's nephew is going to be ring bearer.

Bridesmaid number 1 is my sister, it was an easy choice as we're pretty close.

Bridesmaid number 2 is my best friend, a childhood friend for about 18 years, she's the best!

Bridesmaid number 3 is BM number 2s younger sister, it's quite weird how we got close and she ended up being my other best friend. When BM number 2 went to Uni, I carried on going round her family home as I always did and ended up becoming really good friends with BM number 3.. 6 years later, here we are!

My flowergirl is my Niece and God Daughter, the most special little girl. She's so excited to be "Auntie Nat's Princess" although she's told me she wont have her hair done or have her picture taken.. Wonder where she gets her brattyness from? ?

I have 3 grown ups. 2 are friends from college and one is a friend from uni. They all know each other through me which is quite nice in a way as its created a new friendship group as it were.

The other one will be MrMini's daughter who will be nearly 9 by then, [if her mum lets her come that is.] She is very excited about being a BM as she has "done it before so will be able to explain to the other 3 how it all works!"

Oh and I have 2 sisters and diddnt ask either of them.... It actually diddnt occour to me to ask them.

BM1/CBM is one of my oldest friends. Couldn't think of anyone better to have as my CBM!

BM2 is my best friend from uni. She really helped me through some sticky patches when we were at uni and I knew from the day I got engaged that I wanted her as BM.

BM3 is my brother's (now ex) girlfriend. She's like a little sister to me and I love her to pieces.

BM4 is h2b's sister. I wanted to include h2b's family and it made his mum very happy to ask her (mega brownie points, lol)

I'm having my older sister and 2 friends. I moved to a new town 4 years ago and have made 2 amazing friends since moving here (I was CBM for one of them last year and she is mine). I'm still trying to decide if I want my OH's 2 nieces as flower girls. I did want to ask my best friend from where I used to live to be bridesmaid aswell but although we are quite close still she hasn't been to visit me since I moved and can't imagine she'll end up visiting before the wedding so I don't see the point in her being bridesmaid. She also has 3 small children so she won't have the time. I think I'm going to ask her to be my witness instead.

I've got 3 bridesmaids. Future SIL, a friend that I've known for a long while (who was a bridesmaid at my first wedding and is my eldest's God mother) and my assistant from work. The latter may sound odd but we've been working together for nearly 7 years now and we've been through lots together. Now she is the best friend I could ever ask for.

I've got my best friend (I've known her for 20 years, she's my daughter's godmother and I was bridesmaid at her wedding a few years ago) and my 6-year-old daughter. Probably the easiest decision I've had to make for the wedding!
