Who has the biggest surface area - you or your OH?

Spamboule, 18 June, 2009 at 09:52 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 46

My H were talking about this last night, as you do. He is about 7 inches taller than me, but he can fit into my jeans (grrr, does he not know that he shouldn't have made it look so easy ?)

I asked who had the biggest volume, and he thinks he does, but then he said he thought I had a bigger surface area due to my 'lumps and bumps'. Although he is a very clever maths/science geek, he wasn't sure how we could measure our surface area though - any suggestions?

It also got me wondering, even if you're shorter than your OH, do you think you have a bigger surface area?

This has got to be one of the most random questions I've ever seen on Hitched (apart from the norking thread)!

I think my OH probably has the bigger surface area because even though I would be "bumpier" than him due to having boobs and bigger thighs he is considerably taller. But you've got me pondering...

Definitely me. I have a 2 inch height advantage and comedy breastfeeding norks!

Him I reckon. He weighs just over 3 stone more than me and is 9 inches taller. I may have norks, but I don't think they account for that much! ?

I think H has the biggest surface area. He is 10 inches taller and 3.5 stone heavier than me.

However I think I have the biggest surface area to volume ratio!

Seem to remember doing things with plastisine cubes at school. The smaller the package, the larger the ratio of surface area : volume.

I love this thread already ?

We're probably fairly evenly matched. He's 3 inches or so taller and a stone or two heavier but I'm much curvier.

This is similar to H and I, I think he's about 5 inches taller and a stone or two heavier but he's staright up and down whereas I am really pear shaped.

    Tremendous thread ?

Definitely me - boobs, bum and thighs would probably cover a football pitch alone

He's bigger in the tummy area, but has stick-thin legs and arms

Used to definitely be him as he was twice the weight of me; he's built for rugby, 5ft 11 and has size 14 feet whereas I was 5ft 5, 9st, size 10 with FF boobs. Now I'd say it might actually be me. I had a little cry one day when he put my jeans on by mistake and managed to get them up. ? I weigh 16st and I'm a size 22, with HH boobs.

I'd say exactly the same. He's 2 inches and 3lb more than me. His jeans come up slim on me (lady thighs!) and my tops come up slim on him as he's quite broad shouldered. My boobage is balance by my narrow back. Actually, he often nabs my tracksuit tops and they look better on him than me.

At one point, I was quite a bit bigger on both counts. Needless to say I was NOT happy, and I took it upon myself to lace his food with olive oil in an attempt to even things out. He gained 4lb.

    ?

That's a much better plan than trying to lose weight yourself. <scurries to make cakes>

    ~~

Actually, I'm a bit worried about definitely being the bigger person. H has decided now he is 30 that it's time to lose weight and after we get back from our holiday at the end of June, he's going to start dieting. I'm going to do it with him but suspect I might not manage to lose any weight for a while, despite reducing my steroids.

Oh, I think it's definitely me, despite him being 6 foot and me being 5'4". I have more lumps and bumps than I care to think about and (shamefully) I think I might be heavier than him now ?

    Oh me by far. <weep>

H is 4 inches taller than me and extremely thin, while I'm extremely not thin.

To be fair, he has such a small build I would probably have to be very underweight to even approach having a smaller surface area.

I think it is probably me. H is not that much taller than me with a bit of a pot belly but I have a few lumps and bumps I wish I didn't, so I think its me.

    Great question! ?

I would say H as he's 5" taller and 4 stone heavier. We've never tried on each others clothes but I doubt very much he'd get into mine and his would probably fall off me. I think that I have more volume than him though, he's quite slender and toned whereas I'm not at all toned.

My H is the same. We compare our arms to noodles; mine are udon and his are vermicelli ?

I'm not sure weight has a direct impact on surface area though, hmmm, maybe if we painted ourselves all over and then measured what paint was left over, then we'd be able to tell...

Ugh, OH is also on the 'oh no I'm 30 therefore need to worry endlessly about my gut' plan too. It's peeing me right off, especially as he tried on some 30" jeans yesterday that fell round his ankles. Bloody vain metrosexual!

Me, without even needing to think about measuring - hubby is a couple of inches taller but about 3 stone lighter! If/when I get to goal we'll be roughly the same weight for the first time ever! ? Needless to say me being heavier has never been much of an issue.

Definitely H. He's 10 inches taller and about 8 stone heavier. Everything is bigger on him - his arms, his legs, his belly, his neck. He's a big lad. ?

H I hope. He is only about 3" taller but considerably broader with large arms and chest (and belly shhhhhhhhhhhh, don't tell him I have noticed ?) although he does have skinny legs. I have slimmed down a bit recently, but beat him hands down in the bum department....Hmmmmmmmmmm, no, I am still going to say H.

    Me probably ?

Could you do it by getting into the bath, measuring how high the water is before you get in and then when you've submerged yourself? That would just work out who has more surface area wouldn't it?

Tell him he does not NOT want a 28" waist. My H has a 28" waist and it's impossible to buy trousers for him. Actually, he's probably slightly thinner than that but I've never seen anything smaller than a 28". Most shops start at 30 or 32". He can get stuff at Gap sometimes and um, that's about it. Except naff chinos in Burtons. At the moment he's wearing trousers to work that come from M&S teenage boy section (teflon coated so he doesn't go through the knees in the playground ;-)

We asked the Sat Guardian fashion bloke if he had any recommendations for small sized clothes and he really struggled to come up with any suggestions. It's bizarre because H is not the only man we know with a 28" waist so the shops are clearly missing a trick.

We both had to undergo medicals recently and it turned out that H had LIED to me about his height! He's not a 6 foot blond after all! He's a 5 foot 11.5 inch blond. I almost divorced him on the spot for "fraud" or whatever it is Hollywood celebs say these days ....

Anyway, to get to the point, I reckon we're about similar. Ish. I'm only a small C cup and I've lost quite a bit off my bum through gymming but he's got 4.5 inches in height over me. He is slimmer but he's got bigger feet. I'd call it a draw.

There is a way to measure it I think. I might be very wrong but I remember seeing it on How 2 years ago.

You half fill a bath and draw a line of where the water meets the tub, you then go in and submerge your full body to your neck and then get H to draw a line to show how much the water has risen. You get out (obv you might take some water with you so you make sure the water level hits the original line) and then H goes next submerged to neck and draw a line. Whoever has the higher line has more volume meaning a larger surface area.

Then again I might be remembering this completely incorrectly and Gaz Topp might have been going on about something else ?

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! I used to love Gaz Topp!

What a funny thread - I have actually laughed out loud and have had tears in my eyes at the person who laced her OH's food with Olive Oil ? ? Genius!!!! I might have to do that with MrG! ?

    ? Gaz Topp

I'm not convinced that volume is the same as surface area, but thanks for the tip. My H has a bigger head than me (and I reckon a couple more chins too, but he disputes this) so we would need to include heads too. His head circumferance is about 2" bigger than mine (yes, we measured this a few years ago ?)

Oh good question. i'm not very good at judging my own body so my instinct is to judge myself as far bigger, but on reflection he's taller and very solid, esp across the shoulders, whereas I have small bones and limited curves (despite being a DD - how on earth does that work?!).

so I'd go for him. but maybe another hitcher who knows us both would have a better shot at guessing, my internal mirror is screwed to buggery ?

H is 6ft 4 or 5 and nearly 16st so I should hope it's him! It's odd reading about trying on each other's clothes as we've never done that, although unsurprisingly as I'm an 8-10 5ft6 on a good day, it wouldn't really work!

Dief, the new man sounds ? Big boys rock!
