Who helps you get dressed for the wedding?

maidenheadgirl, 20 June, 2012 at 11:21 Posted on Planning 0 26

I know its a stupid question but who helps the bride into the dress? Especially if its a lace up? All the dresses I like seem to have lace ups and wondering who you'd have in the room to help you with the dress, considering the fact that you need to get somewhat naked to get into the dress ...well I did with the wedding shop assistant. I love my BMs but not sure I want them to see my boobies hahhaha!

My BM's and Mum will be helping me. They've seen it all before anyway when getting ready for nights out etc!

My mum and BM's have seen it all so am happy for them to see all my bits.

When were BM's for a friend, it was actually the tog who helped her into her dress (there were two women) as they were the calmest people in the room!

It'll be my mum or BM's for me as I don't mind them seeing my ❤️❤️.

If you're not comfortable with your BM's then how about your mum or another relative?

Mine will be who ever is ready when I need them! I think I may get my BM's to have pratice runs with the shop assistant and they can have a comp to see who can make my waist look the smallest! ?

This is what I did. I took one of my bridesmaids with me when I went to the seamstress and she showed her how to lace it up correctly and also how to sort the bustle out for later.

My BM is coming to my final fitting to see how it is all done, as is my sis in law and mum. Between them, I'm hoping they can work it out! We've all got the same parts, just different shapes and sizes so it doesn't bother me!

    Hi,

I went to the dress fitting with my daughter to learn the technique of lacing her into her dress, then we allowed plenty of time for the operation on the day. we did need the bridesmaid to help her into it too though!!

If you don't want them to see you semi naked just ask them to help you step into it with your robe or a long tshirt on, then just ask them to close their eyes so you can take your top/robe off and pull the dress up. Then you can hold it against you while they tie you in!!

Perhaps due to my large bum (compared to my waist!) I can't step into mine because it won't pull up past my bum/hips. Instead the dress-lady suggested I always put it on over-the-head.

So when I try mine on, I have to kneel on the floor in just my knickers with my arms in the air whilst my mum and sis make a tunnel through all the layers and then when I see daylight, I put my arms through the top and stand up.

It makes quite a scene which I'm sure the photographer won't have seen before!

Mine is just a zip so easy to do - I could probably even do it myself but I'm sure there will be enough fussing and wanting to help me in. As for exposing myself, I kind of share the same thoughts as you despite everyone having seen it all before - friends yes, but actually I feel more uncomfortable being naked infront of my family. I will probably put my dress on over my bra and then wiggle my bra off - that's what I did at my fittings.

Mine is a zip up which I can get into fine but there's a bit of a corset back which needs to be done up tightly to keep it from slipping down! My mum and brother will be in the one room getting ready all together so it will be whoever can tie it tightest!!

My mum and MOH got me into mine.

If you're self conscious it's probably not impossible to get into it yourself then once you're covered up, get someone to lace it up at the back

It was supposed to have been my bridesmaids and mum but unfortunately the car arrived for them before I'd finished having my make-up done! Thankfully, some of my cousins were around, and one of them had got married in a lace-up dress earlier in the year, so they were able to sort me out. There should be ways of making sure they don't see your boobs (if you're going bra-less) while you're getting into it.

My mum assumes that after watching the seamstress lace me into my dress once that she will know what to do on the day.

Luckily I have a friend who works in a bridal shop who will be on hand to help on the day!
