Why did you chose your date...?

GeordieBarbie, 22 November, 2009 at 15:52 Posted on Planning 0 38

Just wondering - what made you chose your date?

D suggested May as it was just long enough to save, but not too long to wait. I immediately liked the sound of 1st May, which was a Saturday and the venue was free. Then we had problems with the registrar and had to change dates and were offered 24th April or 22nd May. We ended up chosing 22nd May as April would be one pay day less, and with my best mate and bridesmaid announced she was due on 7th May, we thought the later date would be better for them (her husband is also a groomsmen). My Mam seemed keen on 22nd too as it's the day before their wedding anniversary.

I always wanted to get married in May or July. The only Saturday free in both months was 15th May. H2B phoned the FA and this is likely to be FA Cup Final day. Neither of us wanted to get married on Cup Final day so we had a choice of a few Fridays instead. Our one attracted us as it's the beginning of a Bank Holiday weekend and we seem to have had better weather in May in recent years.

I wanted the 18th of November originally as thats when me and my OH first met, but theres not one for a few yrs that falls on a saturday. So I thought the 18th of Sept as I wanted an autumn wedding. But our venue was booked that day so we were offered the following weekend and then told the venue was exclusive on a sunday, so We ended up with the 26th Of Sept ? x

We don't have a date set yet, just the month and to be honest that's been determined by our budget. We've worked out how much we need to save each month and worked out from there that 2 years is a good time so October 2011 it is. We'll book the venue in January so that'll determine the actual date in October.

That's not very romantic is it, lol!

I'm a teacher so if I wanted to have a 2 weeks honeymoon straight after the wedding without having to rush back to work it had to be end of July or beginning of August & we went with 31st July as that was the only Sat they had within those dates (although we nearly went with Friday 13th Aug!!!).

Also its good that our anniversary will always be a holiday for me!

We originally wanted the 21st of January 2010, 10 years to the day we got engaged and my 30th but thought it would be to near to Christmas and OH said I get stressed enough getting our 3 kids presents organised never mind a wedding on top of that lol and we thought a sat would be better than a Thursday too so we just went for any date available after that and got 17.01.2010

I've just started my 2nd year of uni and knew that once I graduate my mind will be focussed on finding a job. I've got 4 months off between end of 2nd year and start of final year so it seemed ideal to get married in this last bit of free time.

We also had a holiday booked for the end of Sept 2010 so I knew if we got married in sept this could double up as our honeymoon (im a cheapskate and wanted to save money). My MOH and an usher are also teachers so we wanted the wedding before they started back at work as they don't live near us. So 4th of Sept it is then!

My poor OH just has to fit round everyone else lol

We chose the 23rd October as I needed it to be a school holiday, summer was packed and very expensive so we chose the saturday before October half term. When we broke it down into school holidays we didnt seem to have much option and october felt right!

We wanted a saturday during the summer holidays, as well as having a 2wk honeymoon after. H is from scotland, so we wanted to keep it to a saturday so his family wouldn't have to take any time off work and could travel over the weekend. he is also a teacher, hence keeping it in the summer hols. meant it was pricier than it could have been, but this was extra important to us both.

venue we wanted had availability, so we just chose what was free! plus i thought the 1st might be easier for him to remember when it comes to anniversaries...

    Two reasons for me!

    1. H2B has a big project at work that needs to be done by June so anything before then was out.

    2. It was the only weekend in June when the world cup wasnt on and i refused to run the risk of competing with Wayne Rooney for attention on my weddinfg day ?

My wedding date is 8-9-10, we chose it so everyone would remember our wedding day for ever and it sounded like a special day! ???

Okay... the truth... we're getting married abroad and wanted early september for no reason other than we went to Turkey in Early sept and it was nice weather and we had a good holiday! Then we looked into what day airports near us and my parents fly out so we wouldn't have our wedding on those days so our families had the option of only going for a week. Then we decided that wednesday was the best day. We didn't want a weekend as we we're told a lot of the locals use the beach on the weekend and it gets quite busy and we can't have an exclusive bit. We just chose wednesday the 8th of september 2010. It wasn't until a week later when my bridesmaid noticed that it was 8-9-10! We didn't even think of it!

We decided on 2011 first of all cos there's no football/olympics on during the summer and we knew we wanted a outdoorsy wedding so it had to be summer, we were originally planning for 25th June - which would have been 12 years to the day we met. However someone else booked that weekend before us so we've actually ended up with the weekend before, the 18th - and we'll celebrate 12 years together on our minimoon instead!

Well, we wanted to chose a date after we were both graduated so that we'd have time to save up for it and so that we didn't have uni pressure. We also wanted to have both been in a full time job for a year or so, so that we're more financially stable - this is due to Mother issues which I wont bore you with now!

We know we want it in the Summer holidays, because OH is training to be a teacher and I'm hoping to teach too.

We also both want to get married on a Saturday, because we have family in Wales and Scotland, so like BW, we want to make sure that they don't have to take days off work.

I plumped for the first weekend in August and OH agreed, so we decided on the 04 / 08 / 2012.....which also happens to be National Mustard Day ?

We'd already booked a month's holiday in southern Spain in late May/early June 2010 when we decided to get married in Gibraltar, so when we were in Spain in September this year we went to Gibraltar to book it. We started off with the 27th May, but the nearest free date when we would be there was the 3rd June, which is my birthday! I wasn't too sure about it at first, but I've decided I quite like the idea now. I think we may still keep the day we met (26th June) as our anniversary though. We're having a party for everyone when we get back, but this is on the 17th July because of the world cup!

Simple - it was the only date available at our venue until 2011 except Halloween in 2009 and the thought of 'corpse bride' jokes was enough to put us off, so we're waiting till next May....

Plus the thought of planning a wedding in 7 months scared me phenomenally....

We started talking about it one evening and when i suggest 2011 we looked at easter weekend to make it easier for everyone travelling and found it was St George's day so that sealed it.. Just have to book the venue and registery office none of which we can do until after christmas..

My OH is a teacher so it had to be on school holidays. We decided on the Easter holidays for a couple of reasons:

    1. the weather tends to be not too bad in April and May, sometimes better than the summer (although we aren't holding our breath for good weather)

    2. A lot of OHs friends are teachers and they are mostly away on holiday in the summer rather than Easter

When we went to look at the venue they only had Friday 9th and Sunday 11th April 2010 free. We didn't want to wait another year so decided on the Friday.

Absolutely no idea!, we got engaged, h2b wanted to wait 2 years so he could sort his finances out and the 27.8.2010 just came into my head...it was only this year that I realised it was a bank holiday weekend....I think I need to get my STD's out soon!

As a teacher like a few others i wanted it to be at the start of a half term so i knew i had at least a week off after (couldn't face the thought of it all being over and having to go back to work on the monday!). We initially wanted easter but the venue wasn't available so we have 13th feb 2010. Always wanted a winterish wedding as your not as gutted if the weather is bad lol! and something to look forward to after christmas Smiley smile

H2B is loving it cos he thinks he won't need to do both valentines and anniversaries - we shall see!!

Well I originally wanted Sat 5th June but things didn't go to plan and we needed more time to save up so we phoned the venue at the time and asked to move it to the 1st Sat in Oct but the room was booked up until 16th Oct!

So we ended up with Sat 16th Oct 2010 which is quite nice as it's my Nana's birthday the day after and also my BM's 1st wedding anniversary! So it just seems all the more fitting!

Not too romantic but hey you can't have it all lol!

We knew it had to be the last 2 weeks of july because of work commitments - OH finishes his work contract at the end of that month and i start a new position next September. so we knew he could take time off and we could go off on a long honeymoon before we start new jobs... very practical reasoning!

We are getting married on ...........................10 Nov 2012 in other words or numbers 10/11/12!!!!

An easy date for OH not to forget!

Also we want to go to Whistler for our honeymoon as that sort if set the time of year (winter) and then one of my mates got married on the 07/08/09 and OH and myself thought this would be a good idea so the next similar sort of date was 10/11/12!

It also gives us enough time to save and also save for a house!

We decided on 9 April 2010 for these reasons:

    1. We both wanted to get married next year.

    2. It then had to fall during a time when we have OH's kids. If we'd chosen a weekend then i'd have had to pick them up the morning of the wedding so we didn't think it would be practical. We had a choice of Easter or Summer holidays and I was too impatient to wait until the summer.

    3. We decided on the Friday so the kids don't have to go back the day after the wedding and get a bit of time with us to see that the fact that their daddy has got married won't actually change anything. We didn't want them to feel pushed out at all so a bit of time with them after would be good.

I'd originally wanted to get married the date we got together (late May bank holiday) but it just didn't work with the times we have the kids.

Ours didn't have a romantic notion behind it, it was the first Saturday after "peak season" prices had gone down - we made the decision at the begining that we were going to be very sensible with the budget and not pay for anything unnecessary (i.e. pay a premium for the saturday before).... that didn't quite go to plan in the end ... as we can see from our bank balance!!
