Why did you pick 'that day' to be your wedding date?

Little Miss Tweety, 22 November, 2011 at 20:13 Posted on Planning 0 60

As the title says really?

We picked our date through process of elimination really.

Knew we wanted to get married in the summer. When we decided in January to get married next year we decided to go for august as it gave us a few extra months to save rather than having it in June. We knew we wanted a Saturday so when we looked at the calendar to see what Saturdays were in August OH wanted the 11th as his family see it as the family lucky number due to a lot of peoples birth dates having the number 11 in them!

So that was that we wanted the 11th and were lucky enuf that the venue we wanted was available that day.

Quite boring really, but gona be a special day for rest of our lives (hopefully)

I think ours is probably more boring - we went to visit the venue and asked what Friday's they had left for end of Sept... they unfortunately were fully booked except the 7th Sept which my OH said was too soon

Wedding planner went back into his office, came back and said the next date after that would be 12th October... so we went with that... plus I liked the fact it'd be 12/10/12 Smiley smile

We both have been married before so neither of us wanted May or August

We also looked at months where there wasnt a celebration in the family - JUNE

Plus the hotel we are having both reception at have a package deal for certain times of the year and we felt that a Friday wedding would be more us hence the 29th and that if people wanted to be there then they woould take a day/half day off

    xx?

Once we decided to book the wedding we decided we wanted it to be as soon as possible, but D wanted it to be at least a year away. When were looking at venues the one we chose gave us a selection of dates to choose from. We were given the choice of the 25th of August, the last two weekends in September and some of the winter dates. We decided to go with the 25th of August because it was sooner than all the others and is bank holiday weekend so gives guests that extra day off if they want to hang around or whatever.

Do sometimes wish we'd booked a winter wedding though.

Were getting married on 13th april 2012 (friday 13th)

everyone is shocked when we tell them but for me 13 isnt unlucky as its both me and my youngest son was born on the the 13th and my eldest son was christened on the 13th april so we choose this so my OH could be included in the 13 clan!

We are getting married on the Saturday after our anniversary as wanted to preserve the date. We were going to have the Saturday before but it is my CBM's dad's 60th so didn't want to put her in an awkward position with having to choose.

Our original date was not suitable for the bulk of our overseas guests so the only date in June available at our venue we took.

This year was my dads 50th and next year my mums also we had only been together 6months when we got engaged so we happy with a long-ish engagement. Originally we wanted a summer wedding but when we looked at the price of venues it seams to go up a hell of a lot in May onwards so we said the last weekend in April. That also means its a couple of weeks before my birthday so I will be younger when I get married (26) and I like the thought of that ? hee hee

The I found out that its the day after what would of been my Grandads birthday!

    So seamed right! x

We are so sad honestly so my oh races pigeons and for 3 weeks in july they dont race so we had an option of any 3 saturdays, my mum passed away 10/7/05 and we thought it would be nice to have something for me to look forward to every year rather than dread plus all the sad stuff comes out around that date due to the london bombings and it was a very sad time for my family and would make me feel like she was part of the day, its also cheaper honeymoon wise due to being 2 weeks before school holidays start so practical for us, mixed bag of reasons but thats us lol xx

I wasn't too keen on the idea of getting married in 2013 because I'm one of those people with a weird thing about odd numbers. But it made more sense financially. We didn't want a Summer wedding as I don't really like the heat all that much, and I couldn't imagine wearing a big wedding dress in the heat. I would get angry! Although I know the British weather can never be guaranteed! So we chose Spring, and I thought May sounded like a pretty month. We also needed a Sunday as most of our guests work Saturdays, and Sunday the 12th May sounded nice so we chose that.

We considered tying it in with our anniversary but it we wanted to get married next year and it didn't tie in very well. Once we'd chosen a venue we just went with one of the very few Saturdays they still had available (25th August) as we really wanted it to be a Saturday. I found out later that 25th Aug is the date my Grandma and Grandpa got married! They were extremely happy together and I've always felt my grandpa is watching over me - so now I am very please with our date : )

We decided on spring as we wanted to get married before camping season started in earnest so that we can still enjoy a full summerunder canvas (sounds daft to some but its what our summer is made of!!!)

So, after much debate and dates being thrown about we decided on 25th April 2014 as it is the friday after easter, so the kids will be off school and it is late enough in spring for us to hopefully get decent weather

Well we needed summer hols due to me being a teacher, and the beginning is better to give honeymoon time. When we looked at July/early august saturdays, I realised my mums bday is friday 20th, so opted for day after, 21st July, as we know mum will be here for her birthday and wedding then. Plus its a pallindrome: 21.7.12

I didn't want to wait much longer then a year after we got engaged so we decided it had to be sometime before Oct 2012. I work in sport so it also had to be after the Olympics and Paralympics which left only September! It was either the 22 Sept or 29 Sept so we went for the first date the registrar had free which was the 22nd. 2012 is going to be a busy year.

I originally always wanted an October wedding as love autumn but when we got engaged on Christmas day last year, October seemed a bit close! However, we didn't want to wait longer than a year so opted for December. Fridays were cheaper at the venue we wanted so we looked at 16th December then my OH suggested the Friday before Christmas so that we could make it a nice long Christmas weekend et voila! We thought it might be difficult with RSVPs but only two people couldn't make it and everyone seems really excited by our choice of date so it's worked out well.

We got engaged in October 2010. I'd always fancied a September wedding (seems to be the best month for weather in the last few years) but 11 months didn't seem like long enough to save and plan. We didn't want a mid-summer wedding, OH was determined not to have it during Euro 2012 and then there were the Olympics to consider and I didn't want to wait until September 2012. So we decided on May when we then had to avoid MIL's bday and the FA cup! So we settled on the 26th which is nice because although it's not a bank holiday next year due to the queen's jubilee it will be every year thereafter giving us a nice long weekend to celebrate our wedding anniversary! Phew - that was a longer explanation than I thought it was!

Ours was never going to be any other day! It's the date of our first date in 2001, the date Mr Apples proposed in 2011 and will now be the date of our wedding in 2013. Now we just need to perfectly plan our kids to be born on that date too and it'll be a perfect set!

We marked off the calendar all the Olympic 2012 evEnts and any other football or sporting matches and were only left with a few Saturdays.

We then marked off any other close family members anniversary or birthday and ended up with 7/7/12

Ours was a bit of process by elimination. I'm a teacher, so we wanted a school holidays wedding so that we could go away on honeymoon without having to wait. Contrary to popular believe, teachers spend a large proportion of every holiday preparing work or our classrooms, so really it had to be Summer holidays as Easter and Christmas are 2 weeks each which would have been enough for wedding and honeymoon, but no prep time for work.

In the Summer hols, we already had tickets for an Olympic event on 11th August, so we were looking for 2 clear weeks either before or after that date. We knew we wanted a Saturday to enable as many guests to come as possible, so that left 21st July or 18th August. Initially we were going to go for August, the idea being for me to do all my school prep at the beginning of the hols and also have holiday time to finish wedding prep, but I KNOW me too well and thought I'd spend all hols doing wedding prep and not be able to focus on school stuff!

So we switched to 21st July, which is the first Saturday of the school hols! I'm slightly anxious that it'll be manic trying to get everything done alongside end of term madness, but we break up school on the Thursday so I'll have 1 empty day before the wedding and then a fortnight with my new husband to totally chill out. Plenty of time after the wedding and honeymoon to get on with school stuff!

We wanted to have enough time to save, so it had to be 2012. OH wanted Spring/Summer. I suggested our 5yr anniversary, but OH didn't want April. We decided on May, and the 19th would have been my parents' 30th wedding anniversary

We actually have had to change our date 3 times!!! Originally we were going to get married this year Sept, but H2B has a sister overseas and she couldnt afford to come over so soon. Then we chose Oct next year.....but then H2B forgot all about it and decided he didnt like the date. So I went through the entire calender for birthdays and things, wanted to get married on a Friday as its slightly cheaper, and ended up with 12 different dates from April to November. So I got a pair of dice and wrote randomly the numbers 1 - 12 next to the dates. We each rolled the dice 10 times and 10th August was the winner, as it turns out it also happens to be the same date as his sisters anniversary AND we're getting married at the same place!!!

I didn't really want a mid summer wedding, I can't handle heat well, but I'm hoping like this year we have mild weather. ?

OH let me choose so went for 3rd August - cunning plan as it'll mean he'll never forget our anniversary - or if he does he'll be in MEGA trouble as it's also my b'day. Also being August most of my friends will be on their hols. Oh and also we had to consider the weather - with 2 rainy had to be sure to avoid them - August is also cooler than the rest of the year - though mid 20's is not exactly cool lol.

We actually planned our wedding around our honeymoon. We planned to go to Norway hoping to see the Northern lights, so we needed a Saturday just before the new moon (when the skies are darkest), in October or November, either in 2011 or 2012 when the sun activity was at it's height, so we went for 22nd October 2011.

And yes we did see the lights!

I'd always fancied a summer garden wedding, and OH and I had originally planned the 15th September 2012. No particular reason for it, just a Friday date that we'd picked out of the sky. We then started chatting about whether we wanted a wedding in September, and i jokingly said "Well what do you want to do? Get married in December?" and my OH just looked at me and said "Why not?" So then we decided on 15th December 2012 as it was 10 days before Christmas, a Friday and in between everyone's birthdays.

THEN! OH's parents split in 2009, and we decided that seeing as we wouldn't be able to save for a deposit on our own place, that we would instead bring the wedding forward a year. Which is why i'm now getting married on a Thursday, the 15th of December 2011!

    Ta Da!!

Hmm well we needed it to be 2012 to give us time to save, plus it was 2010 at the time and OH dad was terminally ill with weeks to live so we didn't want it too soon after his death either, people needed time, we fell in love with our venue and as its a castle it was open to the public in the summer, plus Prince Charles and Camilla come to stay in July so we decided on April just before the summer season starts, I actually wanted March 31st but OH thought we should go later to try and get better weather (as if thats gonna happen up here!!) so he suggested the 14th and my mum was very keen for this as her Dad's birthday was the 15th so 14/04/12 it is! I like it.

Two reasons really- I have always dreamed of a winter wedding, OH liked the idea of Feb/March time which suited me but when we fell in love with our venue the only Saturday they had left in 2012 was the 21/01/12 so that's our wedding date!
