Why did you pick 'that day' to be your wedding date?

As the title says really?

We picked our date through process of elimination really.

Knew we wanted to get married in the summer. When we decided in January to get married next year we decided to go for august as it gave us a few extra months to save rather than having it in June. We knew we wanted a Saturday so when we looked at the calendar to see what Saturdays were in August OH wanted the 11th as his family see it as the family lucky number due to a lot of peoples birth dates having the number 11 in them!

So that was that we wanted the 11th and were lucky enuf that the venue we wanted was available that day.

Quite boring really, but gona be a special day for rest of our lives (hopefully)

We knew we wanted 2012 and it had to be at least 6 months after my sisters' wedding. We thought about September, but then decided October would be better and just chose the first Saturday in October.

Turns out it's the same day as my late grandad's birthday. (He died before I was born, so I didn't even know until my ma told me!)

Haha we had no choice really. We're getting married in Africa and there are only 2 flights a week to where we're going. Only one of those leaves / lands at a sensible time. Then we had to factor in rainy season etc. Initially we were going in March, and it was to be 15th (the Ides of March - that made me giggle) then work got in the way. We rearranged for August (I finish a course 2nd July and said I needed a month to sort things out after that) and then looked at the first flights out. We reckon arriving one day, meeting the priest on the second and doing a little sightseeing, and marrying on the 3rd then gives us a good 9 day honeymoon afterwards!

We chose our venue, they had a special offer on if you get married before 31st March so we said we would do March and then the 11th was the only available weekend day. Smiley smile

I always wanted to get married in either September or May. We chose Sptember because that gave us a bit more time. I didn't want to get married too close to my birthday (end of Sept) so we went for the first Sat in Sept. Turned out that that was the 3rd and I didn't like the idea of sharing an anniversary with the day Britian went to war with Germany, so we changed it to the 2nd. This also meant that we could still use the venue we liked which had already been booked for the 3rd by another couple.

We were really lucky because the 2nd was a lovey, sunny day with perfect bue skies and the 3rd was cold, raining and miserable. We saw the poor bride who had booked the 3rd coming in to set up as we were leaving the next morning and I felt so sorry for her (but also glad it wasn't me ?).

I love Spring and my mum and M's mum were born in April. Originally went for 5.4.13 but I hate odd numbers (although the balance of odd, even, odd did please me...) so moved it forward a week and went for 12.4.13 which suited me a bit better!

Ours is the date of our first date and we will have been together 5 years on the date we get married!

Neither of us knew what month we wanted never mind a date but when we sat down and talked about it - it seemed like the ideal date!

Our date is 8 June 2012. Process of elimination for us.

We needed it in a school holiday that was the same for Kent and Oxfordshire. We wanted it in Spring/Summer 2012 as my Dad's MS is getting worse and I want him (and he wants) to walk me down the aisle. Also we wanted it on a friday as its cheaper, plus we wanted to keep the saturday to have a family bbq too. Plus all of OH's family live minimum of 3 hours away, so we have it on a friday so they didnt have to rush back on the sunday.

We got married on the 1st October 2011. We both love autumn, so it was always going to be held in autumn and the way the date is written - 011011 - looks like binary (both me and H are IT Technicians).

We got engaged in june and didn't want a long engagement - in fact we actually considered getting married in august but my family had holidays booked. with work the next viable time was christmas. we knew what venue we wanted and when we called to see what availability they had they said well we've just had a cancellation for new years eve! registry office could do that so here we are with five weeks to go! love that's it's new years. We've got a pretty high proportion of nos because the date can be awkward but those that matter will be there and lots of people love the date as they don't have to think of something else to do!

Ours is a pretty boring reason really...

We are getting married abroad so we picked the week we wanted to be away for based on prices of flights etc, and we knew that we wanted the wedding towards the start of the week. The caterer was booked on the Sunday so we ended up booking the Monday the 25th June! Simple!

Being a teacher we wanted ours in the summer holidays so we could have a two week honeymoon straight away without the stress of having to think about lesson planning etc! I usually do a summer school in the first week of the holidays and work colleagues are getting married on the 3rd of August so that counted that weekend out and we figured 11th of August would be perfect for fitting in a honeymoon but still having time to plan lessons etc before I have to go back to school. We did find out a few weeks later that OH's family had got tickets to the Mens hockey finals at the Olympics, but they hadn't told us as they didn't want to us to feel bad as we'd already put deposits down. Only found out when one of OHs nephews let it slip!

I've always wanted a winter wedding. We fell in love with our venue, then the wedding co-ordinator pointed out that if we did it in December January, all the Xmas decorations would be up (we saw them last year at xmas, no tack at all, beautiful classy, open log fires, candles etc) so we wouldn't need to spend any money decorating the venue. We wanted December, my Gran's birthday is on the 12th, so our date was decided 12/12/12. We also saved an absolute fortune because it's midweek. The same package on the Saturday after was nearly double the price!

I never wanted a summer wedding and thought a more winter wedding would be good however given the amount of snow we have had november to january we picked February and decided we would go for the last saturday which happened to be the 25th which happens to be my late nanna's birthday and the day before mine, so i think it worked out well we saved money on our venue with it being a winter wedding and we were allowed the numbers we wanted rather than their package numbers so all in all i think it has worked out ok

When we got engaged, we were going to go for 11 but thought that was a bit soon and I refused to get married 2013 and 14 would have been too long an engagement so we settled with 2012. We decided we wanted either a summer or winter wedding. I wasn't keen on a winter wedding so we originally said August but none of the venues we wanted had our date so we looked around our anniversary (12th May) but decided to go a bit after that where it wasn't family's birthday or anniversary so we decided on 2nd June 12. It's 2 weeks before my and OH birthday's, the day after my best friends (CBM) birthday and day before my late granddad's and also near our anniversary (sort of) Also, it's a nice date to remember as 2 X 6 is 12 Smiley smile

Me too. It is the day before my birthday, so have always had a halloween theme in my life, so thought it would be a nice day to get married. Our chosen venue had halloween free, and at a cheap rate (presume no one else wanted it!) so that sealed it for me!
