What price are you putting it on for? The for sale section is now for items £50 and under so this may be why.

The powers that be decided to put a £50 limit on sales... if you are asking for more than this they will just delete it...☹️

If it is over £50 it will be automatically deleted. You have already stated the price & it is over £50 so will be deleted.

Doesn't seem very friendly to me... so how can someone sell a higher value item or would you rather just people went elsewhere to do it?

It is a shame. It was really handy for hitchers to find a used dress.

I suspect it's in order to protect people from being ripped off by unscrupulous sellers, aj. You can't fault them for that.

atlonglast, I know you're not a scammer but there are plenty out there so I guess there has to be a cut off point somewhere. There's nothing to stop Hitchers from pm'ing you directly if they want to buy it now though. Good luck with the sale.

It is a shame but unfortunately it was absued by people who had lots of dresses for sale who were actually businesses so it had to bring in the under £50 rule, so that it was fair to everyone. Also a few people have been caught out by unscrupulous sellers.

I agree with CB.. that's what I thought the rule was there for. Totally understandable. Although, also understandably frustrating.

True but it's always "buyer beware" isn't it? Besides, if someone who's posted maybe once or twice comes on the forum and tries to sell something you'll be wary anyway, but someone who's a well known username with hundreds (or thousands) of posts, surely it's a bit like Ebay feedback when someone builds themselves a reputation?

Actually i do remember a lot of sellers posting on there, little buggers do tend to spoil it for those honest ones. ?

Aj, it might well be 'buyer beware' but you see people moaning about being scammed on here fairly frequently. Each time I read it I'm surprised at their lack of awareness but it still happens a lot. The fact is, there are plenty of people out there who aren't savvy shoppers and Hitched, as a business, is doing the right them by distancing themselves from that.

Besides, it's perfectly possibly for people to circumvent this, should they so wish. Plenty of people will say they're planning on selling their dress, there's nothing stopping a hitcher from pm'ing them to discuss a private purchase without Hitched needing to be the conduit for that sale.

Very true CB, should have thought of that before i posted this question though... lol. Never mind its on Ebay and if it doesnt sell then it will go to our little charity shop for some lucky bride.

I'm a member of a model railway forum which has a 'sales and wants' section, and anything posted in there has to be approved by a moderator under various conditions including minimum membership of one month and posting 30 posts "of substance" rather than "that's nice" or "I agree". There are plenty of high cost items on there, for example a digital sound fitted kit built and painted O gauge loco can sell for over £1000, as well as 'bog standard' off the shelf Hornby wagons for £2-£3 each, so there's certainly an equivalent of designer wedding dresses there.

Ok it might make a little more work for the moderators, but then again I'm more than sure finding a couple of new volunteer staff to help out wouldn't be that difficult either.

Ultimately of course it's up to Hitched what they do with it - I've had a few bargains from the section myself - but I just thought I'd share my experience with another forum.

Different rules for different forums. I'm a member on two other types of forum and a moderator on one of those, believe me, the rules are very different. On the forum I moderate, they sell cars for £5,000+

Indeed, and I was just sharing experience of what others do to get round the issue you raised, after all a lot of Hitchers quite possibly aren't the sort of people that use a lot of online forums - my b2b, for example, hates using forums.

Only trying to help, from the viewpoint of someone with plenty of online forum experience including years of being staff member (moderator, content editor, content manager and site manager at various times) on two forums for online games with more active users than Hitched might have ever had in its entire lifetime.

Ditto to the above aj I ran my own forum. If you have any issues suggest you take it up with Hitched as they make the rules & I enforce them.

It was also done to protect the paying suppliers not just to protect the members. Unfortunately some unscrupulous suppliers decided they would not pay to advertise and just disguise themselves as Private Sellers.

I wonder if there is any value in having a pinned post at the top of that forum explaining the rules for selling. I did spot a line above which mentions the £50 private seller rule, although people often miss that (as happened to the original poster on this thread) and simply look at the posts themselves. There is a pinned advertising post on this forum for example.

I appreciate the reason for the crackdown on unscrupulous sellers.
