wording on wedding invitation

claireL2bM, 9 June, 2011 at 14:12 Posted on Planning 0 4

At the risk of looking like a child that's gone mental in hobbycraft (? love the fight thread) I am planning to make my own invitations. And was just wondering about ideas for words on the front (lots of useful templates around for the invite text inside).

A lot seem to say "wedding invitation", but that seems a bit wierd - on a birthday day card it doesn't say "birthday card". I gues we could have our names and wedding date maybe? Or is "wedding inivitation" not actually wierd and it's just me? Anyone else seen anything they think worked well?

Thanks loads for your help.

Haha thats a very good point, I'd never thought of it that way! I just thought we'd put wedding invitation on the front of ours, but now I'm not so sure ? The names and wedding date seem like a good idea though...

I agree with you in principle, but when we made my sister's invitations, they looked really bare on the front, so we printed "Wedding Invitation" on them. I think it depends what amount of detail you have on the front.

Wedding invitation is traditional but how about "your invited" or "please join us"? Nat

Instead of "wedding invitation", you could use a substitute phrase. For example, I used a lyric that mentioned marriage/etc to head our invitations. Even something simple like "love" might suffice (if that was to your taste). Do you have a theme?

You can be as creative as you like! how about:

    Come to our wedding

    You're invited!

We're getting hitched - come and celebrate

Or you could go completely off topic with:

    Bunfight of the Year!

Free food! (maybe you'd get RSVPs on time with that one!)

    or just the classic:

    PARTAAAAY!
