Working out at home

lottie_lou, 22 April, 2014 at 08:13 Posted on Beauty & Wellbeing 0 10

Can anyone suggest a routine or a fitness DVD for those days when I can't face the journey to the gym?

What results have you seen?

I would love to have a treadmill at home!

It depends what you want to do fitness wise? Yoga, overall fitness, toning?

    Hi Lottie_lou,

i work out from home and have a step and some step aerobics DVDs. They are pretty 90s but I get a really good workout in 25 mins and I can feel myself toning up.

I also use 10 minute solutions dvds for toning. They have general ones, ones for abs or legs ect.

I've recently bought a barbell and weights and have been doing body pump at home. Although I'm not sure how easy it would be to follow safely if you haven't done it in a class with an instructor before.

Since January I have been on a mission to get on top of my fitness (as I am getting married in August) and seem to have figured out a plan that works really well for me. Obviously I know everyone is different but hopefully this will help. I do go to the gym but more often than not I fit my workouts in at home.

So My plan is 30 mins of exercise everyday- I find that it is enough to keep me getting results but not over kill in that I can't manage it or dread it. On top of that I then trying and fit in some toning on most days so focusing on one specific area. I have found this really worked. I don't have scales but in 6 weeks I managed to loose an inch of my waist and generally tone up everything, I am now just trying to maintain ( which of course is easier said than done!)

Anyway my favourite at home workouts are either dance based videos, HIIT routines, or Yoga. There are loads of videos on Fit Sugar - http://www.fitsugar.com/fitness-video ,also check out Tone it up - for toning and HIIT routines, also Tracy Anderson has some good videos on You tube for both cardio and toning. For Yoga - Tara Stiles has some great routines but you can also youtube stuff. Oh and then definitely check out Livestrong Woman - they basically have at home videos for everything - pilates, yoga, toning etc. http://www.youtube.com/user/LivestrongWoman

Also why not try skipping - this is such a good workout - about 20mins of this and I am exhausted. Oh and if you don't have weights just use cans (at the moment I have tined Pineapple and beans!).

As a final bit of advice I would definitely have a schedule and then vary what you do. I find I am more likely to do something If I have a plan and it's not the same old thing everyday.

Hope that helps, Let me know how it goes!

That's really really useful advice- 30 mins a day doesn't seem so bad. Developing a plan will be my next step I think. I can do something different everyday.

I have a yoga DVD but it is very tedius- I have been thinking about going to yoga classes

Yes, definitely make yourself a schedule. I usually do something on Sunday night and put together a plan for the week - most of the time it is at home stuff. Let me know if you want me to share although I imagine its probably better doing it for yourself.

I would also definitely go to a yoga class if I were you. I love yoga and go every week - it's so good for head as well as your body of course.

    Good luck with it.

I'm doing a variety of home based things for a bit of a change!

I do the 30 day shred DVD by Jillian Michaels, a bit of Results with Lucy (online subscription) and then Blogilates which is Youtube based. Blogilates is brilliant, and free!
