Would you get into bed with your mum and/or dad?

I'm just watching The Wright Stuff and they are giving John Barrowman (41) a hard time for getting into bed with his mum and dad for a cuddle. They are saying once children at the very most reach 10 or 11, they are too old to get into bed. Myleene is the only one who disagrees....

I do and I don't think it's weird at all. When I'm at my mum's, I get into bed with her in the morning. We hold hands and just chat. I don't sleep in bed with her but if I had to for whatever reason, I would happily do it. She used to get into bed with me at any time of day when I was poorly too, up until I left home at 24. When she visits here, we sit bed to watch films/tv as sky+ is in our space upstairs and the bed is most comfortable. Does this make me seem like a nutter? Not that I care, obviously, as I like it.

A numpty has just said no children in bed with you from age 2 as they learn about sexual organs early now and need to sleep apart from their parent from then on. ? Yes, of course everyone from the age of 2 to 41 and beyond are thinking about sex when they nip into bed with their parents.

I would like to add also, my parents bedroom was always a no go zone... unless my mum knew I was hovering around the door and she would cough to let me know she was awake - I used to get lonely and want a kiss good night - pmsl - such a baby!!

Would I get into bed with my mum or dad? No - would find that weird. Would I get onto the bed if they were in it? Yes.

? yes me too, absolutely. How very strange. I also echo the comments others have said about their Dads, and I never knew I felt that way ?

I sleep naked, always have done. This morning my 3 year old got into bed with me and hugged me. Neither of us had an issue with it. My 11 year old came into the room and we were both happy to chat, but I made very sure I was covered up and asked him to leave when I wanted to get out (which he was happy to ? however, he has no issue with me seeing him naked in the shower etc). I wonder when this changed? Also, is cuddling a small child in bed, naked, ever appropriate (as long as it's your own ?). It doesn't feel wrong, there's obviously nothing sexual about it, it doesn't even enter my head. I want my children to be comfortable with their bodies. However, I do sometimes wonder whether it's something I should be more careful about. They are both boys, btw.

What a horrible thing for someone to say - and what bloody rubbish. Most children go through an 'infatuation' stage with one parent or another at some time... Hence the term 'mummy's girl or daddy's girl'.

Give your dad a big hug - it'll feel strange at first, but the more you do it the more you get used to it!

I would with my mum and I have shared a bed with her when we've gone away together. I wouldn't get into a bed with my dad but I'll happily sit on the bed if he was in it. I'm close to him anyway and I think nothing of having a cuddle with him like I always have done, despite the fact that I'm now 33.

My boys are both still very young so they are in our bed every morning. I love our morning cuddles but I guess at some stage they will find it 'wierd' to get into bed with their mum.

Same applies for seeing them naked. Me and my mum would have no problems seeing each other naked but I wouldn't want my dad to see me naked and vice-versa. Bad enough seeing him in his swimming trunks ?

Yep, have shared with Mum if we've been away. Get into bed with dad to say good morning if I'm, staying with them, much warmer in there. AND to my shame but relief at the time when I was 21 I got really sick in the middle of the night, and was staying with them, and gave up being ill alone at 3am and went and got into bed with them. They were delighted. (so they said haha)

We have family pictures of 3 of us in the bath with my mum - so I must have been at least 9.

Not sure I'd do it myself but I don't think it did me any harm. I shared baths with my brother (2 yrs older) for a long time too, and also cousins and family friends.

Not sure what age I stopped, but I don't any more ?

Both my parents are dead, but I didn't when they were alive. There was one random, isolated incident when I slept with my mother in her bed when I was about 21-I had been out clubbing with mates who lived near my parents.

I don't have a problem if others do. Similarly, I didn't co-sleep with my children when they were small.

I wouldn't get in to bed with the folks as we're not that close (but did when we were kids). On the other hand, if I stay at friends or they stay at mine after a night out I normally get into bed with them the next morning. Im usually in the clothes I didn't take off at night my pj's and we have a winge about hangovers until someone can be bothered to go get diet coke!

I'm not sure I would with my parents - we never went into their bed as children either - but our daughter sleeps with us and I'd be happy for that to continue either full or part time for some time yet. It's practical at the moment but it's also nice. Although an 8 month old baby takes up more space than a cat and that's saying something.

I don't think I'd get into bed with either of my parents. I have been known to perch gingerly on the edge of mum's bed for a chat, but in it? No.

I don't like sleeping in the same bed as anyone other than H as I fear I may come over all amorous mid sleep ?. I would however get into bed with my mum for a chat or to watch tv etc as often my little sister sleeps in with her anyway so I'd get in beside them both. I'd other share to sleep in with her if it was called for.

I wouldn't if my dad was there I don't think unless my mum was in between as a divide for fear of lacking fabric in never-ever-want-to-see-that regions ?

I kind of have Jaz- I woke up to a friend laughing once because I was stroking her thinking she was MrH and My sisters refuse to share a bed with me because no matter how big the bed i cuddle up right against them whilst they look longingly at the expanse of empty bed (and they're squashed up an inch before the end of the bed) they've even tried the old hug and roll to no avail.

I don't like to sleep alone?

I used to get into bed with my mother up until I was about 25, but that was only when my Dad was working nights and Mum couldn't settle in the bed on her own. I definitely wouldn't get into bed with my Dad though.

My first reaction was 'OMG, no no NO!' but reading through the thread it seems that I'm maybe a little bit odd in this respect. Save for instances where one of them has the flu/ hateful hangover, I don't think I've actually been in my parents' room while they were in bed for many many years, less still been IN their bed while they were in it.

When I lived at home, I sometimes got into bed with my Mum in the morning if I had made her a cup of coffee. More than likely, I just sat on top of the covers though.

Since moving out, no no no, but then, like many others, our family isn't that tactile.
