You have £1million...

Storky, 7 October, 2011 at 13:05 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 37

To buy a house. You can't go over budget, nor can you spend much less in order to extend/redecorate/bulldooze and start again.

It can be anywhere in the UK.

Which would you pick and why?

Based on the fact that I'd have to live in Cheshire/Manchester for work, I have to say that I'm amazed at how little you get for 1m smackers. I'm guessing even less so in London.

Ok. This would probably be my dream house if it wasn't for the fact that it doesn't have a swimming pool.

So, because I'm a cash buyer I would negotiate about £50,000 off the price to get a summer house with concertina doors built in one of the gardens to house my swimming pool and sauna, leading onto decking and bbq facilities!

Here's mine, because of the position. I do actually know this house (from the outside, obviously)

£1m doesn't get you too much in my dream area, Chislehurst

    https://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-35263610.html

Still in Kent, close to friends and family. Fantastic feel to the place and good restaurants and bars. Commuting distance to London but feels like you are in the country.

I'd get more for my money if I moved out slightly but my dream place to live locally is here.

I would stay in gorgeous Dorset. I love where live, we have been down South for 3 years now and absolutely no regrets. There is the sea and The New Forest which are both beautiful.

I love this. It would have to be near my Mum in Essex, am dying to move closer to her since my Dad passed away but doesn't look like we will be able to anytime soon ☹️

I love Georgian properties (all very Jane Austen) and the gardens, pond and woods are stunning. Love the look of the front and back of the house, lovely big rooms with big windows. Ignoring current decor of course.

I know - it's just outside Wakefield so surrounded by countryside but still excellent for motorways etc. I don't live in Wakefield presently, but I'm not far away in Leeds.

My friend's sister owns this house. The one he owns is even larger but needs a lot of work doing on it.

I love this... It's about 10 miles from where we live now.

If I were going to move nearer to my parents then this is the best I can see:

Based on what's available on Right Move at the mo, at that price, in the area we would want, this:

    http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-30203152.html

It's a lovely area, and it's where we would ultimately choose to live if we stayed in Glasgow.

Have included the following not because I want it, but because it has chuffing mugs hanging from the kitchen ceiling. Weird.
