Your most painful experience?

HatTrick, 20 December, 2011 at 18:59 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 83

I don't think I've really experienced anything too painful. I've never broken a bone or anything like that.

I think the worst pain I've been in is when someone stood on my toe when I had an ingrowing nail.

I really should say childbirth but the drugs you can get are so fab, it really didn't seem to hurt *that* much. Either that or I'm remembering it through a haze of entonox...

Breaking my toe was unbelievably painful. Thankfully I've never broken anything bigger than that!

When I was 8 I lost the tops of two of my fingers when a pile of bricks fell on them. They were hanging by a thread but luckily the doctor was able to sew them back on.

Hmmm. I'm particularly accident prone so hurt myself constantly.

Worst would probably be when I twisted my ankle falling off a step at school. I had a bag full of books on my back and couldn't get back up. I threw up with the pain.

Or when I was a gymnast and I was being the one thrown up in the air. They missed me on the way down.

Or when I put a spoon that I'd been heating up on the hob into my mouth - my tongue sizzled like steak.

Or when my dog bit me by accident because I got in the way of him and another dog (he's a rescue and has 'issues').

    There are more I'm sure.

Tearing the ligaments in my ankle and knee in June. Way more painful than childbirth IMO!

Jumping on a measuring jug and half of it going through my foot- diddnt actually hurt at the time but the pain the next few days was unbearable- especially as I am allergic to all the good painkillers.

Breaking my arm was reletivley pain free in comparison.

Just an allergic reaction really, rash, chest tightened (am asthmatic anyway), sick and dizzy, had to be taken back to hospital the next day. They told me to take paracetamol only- not cool.

I tore ligaments in my ankle. Was so painful!!!! The ambulance guys made me hop up the stairs, I lost my balance and instinctively put my other foot down. That pain was unreal!! Only then did they get the wheelchair that can go up stairs. At the hospital the Dr said it would have been less painful for me to break my foot.

    Snap.

That is pants. Mind you, I'm not sure I've ever needed anything more than 'normal' painkillers. Despite being very painful, most of mine were short lived. Thank god.

I had SPD when I had my last baby from about 18 weeks onwards CG would know more but it has something to do with your pelvic joints loosening . Absolute agony , screaming as it caused so much pain when I turned over in my sleep . I would not wish it on anyone . It meant my 12 hour shoulder dystoria labour was a breeze without even a paracetamal .

Possibly getting my eyes used to hard contact lenses. Most unpleasant. Obviously I've never done anything really bad, but I have ripped my hamstring, and broken my foot, and the contacts were worse than either.

Ha ha ,i am no martyr,i had drugs with both girls when it got sore. With him it just did not compare to the pain i was already in. Made me really think about people who are in constant pain with arthritis etc, don't know how they do it.

**touches wood** nothing really. I've never broken a bone or had a bad injury. I had a tonsillectomy when I was 12 and I've had 2 c-sections but didn't find the pain after any of those things that bad.

Oh actually I knocked a large, heavy glass dish from the top of my 6' tall fridge freezer. It landed square on my right big toe. It swelled up, my nail went black and came off and it was really painful that night and sore for over a week. I do wonder if it was broken as it looks a bit mishapen.

Ooh, can I join the clumsy-club, too?

    Take your pick from:

I fell down our stairs from the top in May 2008 - broke my scaphoid bone in my left wrist (still bloody aches 3yrs later), cut my right arm on the banister and got a carpet burn on my back. Serves me right for going downstairs without my glasses on at midnight.

Approx 10yrs ago, I ran into my parents kitchen, caught the corner of the chimney breast with my foot and broke my little toe.

When I was little, I was stood on a chair, I slipped, hit my chin on the chair-back and bit through my lip - there was lots of blood and I've still got the scar today.

Also about 10yrs ago, was filling up a hot water bottle due to bad period pain and I missed and tipped the boiling hot water over my right hand. Only good thing was it distracted me from my period paid.

Sept 11th, 2001 ( i remember as i was in hospital when the plane hit the twin towers) i fractured my ankle. I came running downstairs, slipped on a matt on laminate flooring and cracked my ankle in the very corner of the room..i think the noise alone made me throw up let alone the pain?

Funny thing was, that morning id taken my mum to the doctors to have her check up on her broken ankle ?

I haven't had any bad accidents but I did have an ectopic pregnancy and when my fallopian tube ruptured I was writhing in pain and fainted it was so bad. I can't describe the pain in my rear end it felt like a large fist was up there (not that I know how that feels)! and my stomach was going to pop!

Falling through a cricket pavillion roof aged 15 and having 2 other people fall on top of me and pulling my calf muscles very badly. Only time I have been in an ambulance :-) F*ck knows how I didn't break anything!

Also 2 years ago when I got food poisoning from tuna. Horrendous is not the word. I get goosebumps just thinking about it.

I can't quote from my phone but in response to Skybright's post, SPD aka symphysis pubic dysfunction occurs when the pregnancy hormones relax all the ligaments/joints in the pubic area, the pressure of the uterus/growing baby makes it worse. When the woman is in labour you have to be so so careful during delivery, you can't adduct the hips at all. Such a painful condition, I see it almost every day at work. Oh and btw Skybright, a shoulder dystocia?! OMG scary scary stuff!! Your wee pelvis didn't have any luck! X

Childbirth! My first baby got stuck and needed to be sooked out with the dyson (ventouse or something). I was 'crowning' then he disappeared again. This went on for 6 hours and all that time it felt like he was touching/leaning on something he wasnt meant to be! Wasnt normal labour pains that 4 sure! He was only 6lb 2oz so no idea how he got stuck. lol

He must have paved the way though coz 3 years ago today i gave birth to my 'wee christmas pudding'. He popped out 35 mins after arriving at the hospital and was 8lb13oz. he fast asleep in bed after a very busy birthday!

Worth all the pain in the world!

    Cringing at all of these!

When I was 15 i dropped a big teapot full of just-boiled water onto my foot. I was working in a cafe at the time, my boss ripped my shoe and sock off and watched as the skin on my foot bubbled and came away. I was nearly sick watching it. Went to hospital, got it bandaged up. It took maybe 9 months to heal entirely and I still have a huge scar on my foot about the size of my palm, 8 years later.

Some very ouchy experiences here. Mines a toss up between the cramps i suffered from seafood poisoning on a hen do in Bournemouth. I couldnt stand up and had to be escorted back to our hotel where i was curled in a ball until we had to get the train home in the morning. A 6 hour journey with food poisoning was not fun, i cried all the way home. Also when i was messing around in the hallway and my mom slammed the kitchen door shut on my finger. The nail lifted out of the nail bed and i passed out. That was horrid pain.

No broken bones here either. *touch wood*

I had this awful stomach pain on and off for 12 hours (mainly on!) when 38 weeks pregnant with ds1, but it wasn't labour! The doctors never found out what it was. I was in agony and none of them knew what to do to hep me! Having a 9lb 12lb baby was a breeze compared to that!

Also agree with Skybright about spd. I had it when pregnant with ds2. Awful pain!
