Your OH's name?

(Claire), 17 July, 2012 at 15:45 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 78

Keeping up with the theme.

Do you like your OH's name?

My husbands name is Stephen so equally as common as mine. I do like it, and I do hope to use it as a middle name one day. (if we are lucky). I call him Steve generally, unless I'm angry and then it's a stePHen, with extra emphasis on the ph as you can see.

    No I don't like my husband's name, it's a typical popular 80's boy's name. I always shorten it.

My OH is called James but all of his friends call him Jimmy.

ETA: I neither like nor dislike his name, but prefer Jimmy.

Jay. Although it's a shortened version of his real name, I've never known him as anything else, all his formalities/banks etc use 'Jay'.

    Yes I do.

Jack is really a John and I love both, although I prefer Jack, he suits Jack slightly more than John.

H is Steven. I like it.

I don't really like Steve (for him) but people insist on calling him it so it riles me less than it used to. None of his family call him Steve, it's always Steven.

My dad just won't listen and always calls him Steve.

Forgot to say... I don't actively dislike H's name, but wouldn't have picked it myself really.

Mine is an Andrew. I love his name, although everyone calls him Andy which I like slightly less. His middle name is Hamish. I love to tease him about that *bad wife icon*

I have an A...... Don't like it because apart from him all A.....s are under 7 or over 70. He is neither, but named after his dad which just makes it confusing. His family call him "wee A....." - they are Scots - which annoys the hell out of me.

I have a Michael, it's ok I suppose. Never really thought about it. Most people call him Mike. When I first met him for some unknown reason I referred to him as Mikey so a few people (especially my niece) call him Mikey. I call him Moo. ?

I wouldn't worry about it too much, I AM Irish and have never come across a Sean who pronounced their name any way other than SHAWN, not even in the Gaeltacht regions where the true natives are ?

OH is Kevin but known as Kev to everyone apart from my Grandmother who insists on calling him Kevin yet she called me Becca! I'm not that keen on it but I didn't name him. He is mainly Kev to me unless he's done something wrong then it's either Kevin or his surname.

I know his parents caused a family to-do by not naming him the same as his father and grandfather.

I've known quite a few Seans and it's always been pronounced Shawn.. I always assumed it's actually 'see-an' which pronounced in an Irish accent nice and quickly would sound like Shawn??

Same way as Sean and John and Iain are all quite closely related as names, all in the accent and the speed at which you say them, you can see how each could develop into each other. Or maybe just me...?

ETA: mine's a James, but is Jim/Jimbo to me and most friends and family or Jimmy to older blokes for some reason? It suits him, not my favourite name ever but a good solid name - prefer it to the Marco I was with before him!

I lived in Greece and picked it up from there. It means 'my'.

Darling Moo, beautiful Moo, hence Mikey Moo.

It's Peter which I had never thought about until I met him but I really like it. He is named after his grandad and it really suits him. It means rock and he is a bit of a rock, strong and solid and very dependable.

I call him Peter, Pete or Pizza (my god daughter calls him this and it has stuck) His parents sometimes call him Pedro.

I have a David. Not a Dave. A David. I like the name, though it is very popular!

It always makes me laugh (and roll my eyes) when MIL says she doesn't know any Hebrew names, yet she gave her son a name that is as Jewish as they come!

you sure its not just an accent making it sound like SEEN?

I know a Shaun (Cornish) and a Sean (N. Irish) and they are both pronounced 'shawn'

I have a Dave, Everyone knows a Dave! he gets David if he is in trouble and his family all call him David. He introduces himself to new people as David otherwise with his accent it sounds like Div!
