Are there particular quiet times in swimming pools?

SAM83, 20 May, 2009 at 18:36 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 11

Want to go swimming again but I severely lack confidence. I have checked timetable of our 2 local pools and one one does a ladies only sesh (which I thought would be answer) but its at 9pm on a Sunday night which is too late for me.

So would you say there are any quiet times?

TIA

Early in the morning or late in the evening seem to be the quietest. I used to swim at the health club from 6.30am or the council pool from 7.30am, otherwise the adult sessions that are late in the evening. Is it that you don't want to swim at 9pm or that you don't want to swim at 9pm on a Sunday?

    Thank you.

Cant do 9pm on a Sunday as either hubby will be out playing pool or in work as he leaves for night shift at 9pm.

Suppose I could go 9pm on a different night though. Would it be quiet then do you think? I could even do Fri/Sat.

Early mornings are no good either as have to get LO up for nursery and myself into work by 7.30ish

Weekend lunch times tend to be quite quiet as well

the bad thing about the ladies only sessions is they tend to be quiet busy but just ladies if you know what i mean

Late evening sessions tend to be quite quiet particularly the Friday (never tried a Saturday night session).

Are you planning on swimming near work? Could you try a weekday lunchtime session? They can be busier but as lots of people are on their lunchbreak they tend to be 'on a mission' and don't take much notice of others!

Sorry only just came back to this - tbh would feel better going on my own at the moment.

No pool near enough really at lunchtime and I only have half an hour. Just found out one of our local pools is open from 6am every week day doing adults only and every evening from 8pm-10pm doing adults only so think thats where I am going to try.

Surely your pool is being quite unfair making ladies have to wait until 9pm on a sunday night just to have a quiet swim, also from a safety perspective it doesn't seem right.

I used to go immediately after work at 5.30pm and would be nice and quiet until just before 7pm so it was plenty of time for me.

If I'm going swimming we aim to be in the pool for around 2.30ish as all the parents are getting out to go pick the kids up from school and the kids don't get to the pool until about 3.30ish after school.

Why is that unfair? You can have a 'quiet swim' with men there too ?

I appreciate the reason for ladies only swimming (God knows I'm a heffer with the body confidence of a slug) but I don't see why 9pm is an unreasonable time to have it.

We also have Men only and Muslim men only swimming at our pool so everyone gets a fair turn!

Edited to answer the Qu: I find any weekday late evening (after 8) or weekend mornings (before midday) the quietest. Women's only is actually one of the busiest times at our pool.

I want to say be confident and go to swimming pool and enjoy tour lifr.

No pool close to enough absolutely at lunchtime and I most effective have half of an hour. Just located out certainly one of our local pools is open from 7am each week day doing adults simplest and every night from 8pm-10pm doing adults simplest so suppose thats in which I am going to try.

Although having the pool all to yourself might be the most appealing thing in the world, it is definitely better to have at least one person aside from you present. For that matter, it is definitely 'highly advised' that you don't go swimming all by yourself. The Reason? Safety: A mishap could unfold, and you would not have anybody save your soul - you'd be a goner. I find the best time to visit the pool is during 8am - 11 am. The crowd is few, and by the time you're done, it'll be afternoon (warm!) and time for a hearty lunch.
